Term 2, Issue 4 2017
A huge congratulations to those students who represented Brewarrina Central School at Regional Cross
Country in Geurie this week. All students put in a great effort and ran their hearts out in the hope of
making it to the next level which is State Championships in Sydney.
We were successful in having two students make it to State and we would like to congratulate Janalee
Conroy and Malakye Biles.
Well done to our BCS Kids.
Brewarrina Central School News
This term is hurtling along at a rapid rate- we are
now in Week 8. While we are getting close to the
end of term we are not there yet and I would like
to see every student maintain regular attendance
until the end of term.
I hope that everyone enjoyed the Long Weekend
and that you were able to land a big one in the
Bre Big Fish.
Last Friday a group of students, Miss Williams and
I, were part of a ceremony where soil was
collected from the Brewarrina War Memorial.
The NSW Minister for Veteran Affairs, David Elliot
attended and he chose Serena Walford to assist
in the collection of soil. This will be taken to the
War Memorial in Sydney where it will be used in
art installation to show the areas from which
soldiers enlisted. Serena did an excellent job and
we were pleased to be part of the ceremony. The
Minister paid tribute to the local soldiers and
mentioned Harry Norman, Aunty Janice’s
Grandfather. It was a short but moving affair.
Unfortunately the time was changed at late
notice so we weren’t able to involve more
children.
This week 20 students will be travelling to Dubbo
to participate in the District Athletics Carnival. I
wish all these students the best of luck and thank
all the staff accompanying them. I look forward to
hearing of their success.
All the boys who participated in the Outback
Challenge at Bourke did very well. If you have
looked at Brewarrina Central’s Facebook page
you would have seen photos of our Year 3 and 4
students doing their local excursion. Brewarrina
Central is always a busy place.
Next week, we have the Parent/ Teacher
Meetings. K-6 is on Tuesday, 20th June from 3:30-
4:30pm in the children’s classrooms. The
Secondary Meeting will be held on Wednesday
21st June from 3:30 to 5pm in the Secondary Hub.
We look forward to seeing you then- remember
the Half Yearly Reports will be distributed and
you will be able to talk about your child’s
progress.
Week 10 is NAIDOC Celebration time. A schedule
of events will be published in the Newsletter, on
Facebook and will be sent home with the
students. I would like to invite all families and
community members to join us for our NAIDOC
Celebrations. We look forward to seeing you
there.
Please remember if you have any concerns please
contact the school so that we are able to assist.

Our busy term is continuing!!! This week we have
all of the regional cross country children running
at Geurie on Wednesday, and we wish them good
luck. It was a fantastic effort to have 16 children
selected to represent our school and region.
Thank you to Aunty Lynne, Aunty Raelene, Ms
Pratt and Mr McNamara for accompanying the
children and also thanks to Ms Dove and Aunty
Sue for their organisation. There is a lot of work
that goes on behind the scenes for our kids to go
to these fantastic excursions and we are
fortunate to have many dedicated staff that make
it happen.
Over the next few weeks we have the NAIDOC
public speaking competition, robotics workshops
and we are looking forward to NAIDOC week in
the last week of school. NAIDOC week is going to
be a wonderful celebration and the program is
jammed-packed with great experiences. Thank
you to all the Aboriginal Educators who have
dedicated their time to prepare for the week. The
kids are already excited!
Parent/teacher night is next week and Aunty Kim
will be out to remind families of times. We look
forward to seeing you all next Tuesday.
Thank you for your great support of Book Fair.
There were over $1300.00 in sales, which means
the school received quite a few books for the
Library. Our next book fair will be in November.
Moorambilla notes have gone home this week
and all instructions are included in the letter.
Congratulations to those children who were
successful.
Have a great fortnight! Beck Williams
Year 9 and 10 students are sitting their Half
Yearly Examinations this week. Sitting exams
allows students to not only show what they have
learnt, but practice sitting for formal testing
situations. Best of luck and give it a go.
Congratulations to students heading off to
Regional Cross Country this week. An additional
congratulations to Janalee Conroy for being
selected in the Murdi Paaki Regional Rugby
League Council squad to tour Adelaide and
Broken Hill and compete in the state
championships later this month. A fantastic
achievement and opportunity.
Looking forward to seeing parents at the
Parent/Teacher Night in Week 9. A great chance
to discuss your child’s report and chat with
teachers about how we can support each other in
your child’s education.
We always have plenty happening in the
Secondary department, and teachers are
currently developing their training around Focus
on Reading, which provides additional support
with literacy in the classroom. At home, students
can develop their literacy and vocabulary by
reading different kinds of texts and talking about
what they are reading. They can identify words in
texts that they do not know, and look up what
they mean. Sometimes it helps if students discuss
what they have been learning at school- this
helps them to process what they have learnt and
develop their understanding.
Please remember if you have any questions or
concerns about your child to contact the school.

At our school we are
Safe
Respectful
Learners
Out of Bounds and Restricted areas: Students
must mind the rules and stay out of areas that
are Out of Bounds. This is for their safety. We
have put up signs around the school near areas
that are Out of Bounds. Teachers actively
supervise all other areas to ensure student safety.
The team is continuing to develop the
Attendance Policy, and when it is finished a
brochure will be sent home to parents explaining
the key aspects of the policy. A reminder; it is the
parents responsibility to ensure their child is at
school every day, and when they cannot attend
the school must be notified verbally or in writing
with a reason for the absence.
All Parents/Carers are invited to come
to Brewarrina Central School to
receive your child’s Half Yearly
Report and to discuss their progress
with their teachers.
There will be 2 afternoons-
Tuesday 20th June will be for
parents of children attending
Kindergarten to Year 6 and will be
held in your child’s classroom.
Appointment times will be sent home
soon.
Wednesday 21st June will be for
parents whose child/children attend
Years 7 to 12. These meetings will be
held in the Secondary Hub.
Times for the Secondary
Meetings will be –
Years 7 & 8 - 3.30 – 4.00 pm
Years 9 & 10 – 4.00 – 4.30 pm
Years 11 & 12 – 4.30 – 5.00 pm
We look forward to meeting with you
then.
AMAZING!! What an exciting term it has been in 2B. We have been such hard working bees these past few
weeks. It has been great to see all students working hard and producing work to a high level.
We have been writing our own Fairy Tales and the imagination of 2B has blown me out of the hive. Some
students are writing over three pages worth of writing, which is sensational. We have upped our work in
our Jellybean and we are all reading higher level texts. It is hard to wipe the smile off my face seeing 2B
working so hard this term. In Maths, we have been making hands on resources to use in our math groups.
We have made 120 beaded strings to help us with our ‘counting on’ and two times table pipe cleaners to
help us with our multiplication and division. We are looking forward to making more of these as we learn
our multiplication facts.
At assembly last week we presented our item “The Three Little Pigs” but with a twist. Here are some
photos.
Here are some pictures of what we have been doing in 2B this term.
It certainly has been a great start to the year for 2B Bumble Bees, Aunty Lyn, Aunty Les and Mr Beames.
Please feel free to pop into our classroom for a yarn anytime.
