Mavelikkara: Seminar on astronomy and astrology:

A seminar on astronomy and astrology was organised by Breakthrough Science Society,Mavelikkara unit on 17th September 2016 at Mahatma higher secondary school, Chennithala. Mr.K . Sivankutty, Secretariat member, Kerala state chapter, was the main speaker. After the seminar,a sky watch programme was also conducted under the leadership of Mr. M. Muraleedharan,organiser of Breakthrough Science Society.

Awareness programme on First Aid:

An awareness programme on ‘First Aid’ was organised at Mahatma higher secondary school,Chennithala on 16th September 2016. Dr.K.Hariprasad, Secretariat member, BSS Kerala statechapter, was the main speaker.

Narayanakurup Principal, VidyadhirajaVidyamandir presided over the inaugural function. Mr. K.Sivankutty, Coordinator, BSS Alappuzhachapter delivered a talk on ‘Ethics of Science’. Large number of students attended the programme.

Marie Curie memorial programme at Cherthala:A Marie Curie memorial programme was organised at Govt. Girls Higher secondary school,Cherthala on 22nd July 2016. The memorial meeting was inaugurated by Smt. K Reshmi, Principal.Sri. K Sivankutty, district co-ordinator of Breakthrough Science Society delivered a talk on ‘Ethics ofScience’. Ms. R. Aparna, BSS State Council member, presided over the function. Ms. SruthySubhash welcomed the audience and Ms. Krishna S Muraly proposed a vote of thanks. A Photoposter exhibition on 'Madame Curie - Life and Contributions' was also organised on the same day.Hundreds of students participated in the programme.

Madame Curie day observance was organised at SDV Higher secondary school, Alapuzha on 5th ofJuly. School Principal Smt. Nandinikutty inaugurated the memorial meeting. Dr. K. Hariprasad, statesecretariat member of Breakthrough Science Society, delivered the keynote address. Ms. R Aparnapresided over the meeting. A documentary on Marie Curie was screened after the keynoteaddress.

Breakthrough Science Society organised a Madam Curie memorial programme at TagoreCentral school, Haripad on 16th July 2016. The memorial meeting was presided over by Ms.Sreeja, Pricipal of the school. Mr.K.Sivankutty , Secretariat member, BSS Kerala state chapterwas the main speaker. A documentary on Madam Curie was screened at the meeting. APhoto poster exhibition on 'Madame Curie Life and Contributions' was also organised on thesame day.

Inauguration of Valiyathura unit of BSS:

Inauguration of the Valiyathura unit of the Breakthrough Science Society was held at MastersAcademy, Valiyathura, Thiruvananthapuram on 16th July 2016. Mr.G.S. Padmakumar,President, BSS, Kerala chapter was the main speaker. In his speech Mr.Padmakumaremphasized the need for developing scientific process of thinking in the society. Heappealed to the participants to work among all sections of the society to build a people’sscience movement. Mr.P.S.Gopakumar, member of the executive committee of BSS Keralachapter presided over the function. Dr.P.P.Rajeevan, secretariat member of BSS Keralachapter also spoke in the function. The meeting then elected an executive committee of BSSValiyathura unit with Mr.P.S.Gopakumar as the general convener.

Discussion on Madam Curie and Ethics of Science at Vilappilsala:A discussion on ‘Madam Curie and Ethics of Science’ was held at Vilappilsala,Thiruvananthapuram on 15th August 2016. Mr.P.S.Gopakumar, member of the executivecommittee of BSS Kerala chapter delivered a talk on ‘Life and Contributions of Madam Curie’.A documentary on ‘Madam Curie’ was also screened after the talk. All participants wereactively involved in the discussion that followed. Dr.P.P.Rajeevan, secretariat member of BSSKerala chapter in his speech presented a brief report of the activities of BreakthroughScience Society in Kerala. Mr.Rajan, a leading social activist of the area presided over thefunction. He appealed to the participants to come forward to organise more suchprogrammes in future.
