PANAMBI: THE TOWN

Panambi is a municipality located in southern Brazil,

northwestern Rio Grande do Sul state, with a

population of 40,000 inhabitants. Panambi is known as

one of the largest metal-mechanical complexes in the

state due to its large and diverse industrial district.

Panambi was colonized by Portuguese and German

people in the 19th century. The culture is highly

influenced by the German people, who brought the

food, the language and the culture to the town.

Traditional German dishes can be found in Panambi,

such as the Käsekuchen (cheesecake), the Eisbein (pork

knee), and the Sauerkraut (boiled cabbage), for

RIO GRANDE DO SUL: THE STATE

Rio Grande do Sul is a state located in southern

Brazil and is bordered by Santa Catarina state to

the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the East,

Uruguay to the south and southwest and

Argentina to the west. It has a very diverse

climate, with freezing days in the winter (June to

September) and hot days in the summer

(December to March). The state was colonized

mainly by the Italians and Germans, having its

culture based on these two ethnic groups. But

the state is really multicultural, with several

different ethnic groups spread all over the state.

Churrasco (meat cooked in a “churrasqueira” -

barbecue grill) is the best-known food and it is

delicious.

THE BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE COURSE

The aim of the Brazilian Portuguese Course

for foreigners is to offer the students an

immersion in the Brazilian culture, providing

practical situations on the everyday

communication, through dynamic lessons,

with focus on the students’ needs. This

allows for the understanding of the

language and the development of the four

communication skills – speaking, listening,

writing and reading on a natural and

progressive way.

Levels: Beginner, Intermediate and

Advanced

Program of study:

- Pronunciation;

- Listening comprehension;

- Conversation based on everyday situations

and formal contexts;

- Written production;

- Brazilian history, geography and culture

are subjects of classes;

- Expository and practical lessons.

COURSE CONTENTS

Start date: every Monday. (Tuesdays apply when Monday is a holiday)

Monday to Friday, 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. – 1:30p.m. to 3:00p.m.

After-class cultural activities scheduled in advance.

INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

- The students will get a letter of acceptance

indicating the duration and other information

of the program so that they can request the

student visa.

- All foreign students must arrive in Brazil

with a student visa or one which permits

studies in Brazil.

- All foreigners living in Brazil must be legal

inside the country.

The students who stay more than 30 days

will get orientation regarding procedures for

their legalization at Polícia Federal.
