Although summer is coming to an end, our lodge has been very busy. As usual, the Italian Riviera Beach Bash was a huge success. Thank you, Tom Alexon PER, and to everyone else who helped with the preparation and serving the dinner. The room looked beautiful; my thanks to Joyce Boyles and her team. For everyone who participated in the blood drive, thank you; your donation is greatly needed and appreciated. The annual golf tournament is the lodge’s major charitable event with 100% of the proceeds funding most of our local charitable works. I thought the membership would be interested in knowing where some of the money went: with money from our 2012 golf tournament we sent 9 children to summer camp; we sponsor both boy and girl scout troops; we sponsor a local soccer team and little league baseball team; we bought a glass case and mannequin for The Veteran's Learning Center; we supplied and delivered Easter baskets (in costume) to our local youth; we sponsor Seabreeze High School Culinary Academy (we are their largest sponsor), and we purchased and delivered hundreds of dictionaries to 3rd and 5th graders at 8 local elementary schools. This is just a portion of where the money goes. Teri Eckenrode and Mike Deeter work long and hard on this event…so from the bottom of our hearts… thank you both and all who participated and donated their time to make this a successful event. Without the support, of you, our members, we could not carry on with our charitable work. This month, I name John Andrews, PER as Elk of the Month. When needed this past month to train our new chef, Rich, with the daily running of the kitchen John stepped in volunteering several days to get the job done. Thank you, for all your hard work. HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT
A special thanks to all who attended the Italian Riv-iera Beach Bash. It was a good turnout and everyonesaid the meal was great. Thanks to everyone who assisted with the event. In September the monthly drawing will be held onSunday, September 1st, with hot dogs and friesavailable from 5:30 to 6:45 pm for $4.00.We will host our annual Labor Day Event, with Ribsand “fixings” from 1 – 3 pm for $10.00. Tickets will beavailable at the door.On Saturday, September 28th, the lodge will hold a“CHIP & ELKS” event in the dining room. This shouldbe a fun evening. We are also looking for “dancers”,so if you would like to volunteer, please see eitherSandy O’Rourke or PER Patricia Gehring, for details. Tickets for this event will go on sale Friday, September 6th, and will be available on Wednesdayand Friday evenings until September 22nd. You mayalso contact Patricia Gehring at (386) 441-6134. Seeflyer for further details.The House Committee has decided to continue theWednesday night summer menu for the month of September. We will return to Wednesday night specials on October 2nd. Prime Rib will be availablestarting Friday, October 4th. Our new cook RichardPavey has some great ideas, and is doing a wonderful job with our lunch specials. If you have nottried them, stop in for lunch and try the new specials.
