August Lundh has delivered catering products for the professional kitchen for nearly 100 years. Today we have an extensive portfolio of virtually unbreakable products for everyday consumer use and for the professional kitchen. We supply our products to hotel, restaurant and catering customers as well as to the public sector and retail stores via wholesale catering distributors.

In this brochure we have decided to showcase the products from our product portfolio that are completely free of bisphenols, phthalates and other substances that may be harmful.

Common to all our products is that they are very durable, easy to use, and manufactured in food approved and recyclable materials according to the requirements and guidelines of the Food Administration, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and FDA (the US Food and Drug Administration). They are also approved according to EU chemicals legislation REACH.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Most of our products are marked with a date and material indicators and the Swedish mark for food approved materials. The markings enable us to trace the material back to its original source.

WHAT IS BISPHENOL A? (BPA)

Bisphenol A is a endocrine disruptor. What effects Bisphenol A has on humans have been widely debated, as well as at which exposure levels harmful effects occur. Studies have however shown a possible connection between exposure to BPA and variety of diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

A number of major studies are currently being conducted to identify the effects BPA have on humans. In order to reduce the exposure of BPA on infants the substance have been prohibited in baby bottles since 2011 throughout the EU. The Swedish government decided in 2012 to ban BPA in food packaging intended for children up to three years.

IN WHICH PRODUCTS DO I FIND BISPHENOL A?

BPA is used in the production of polycarbonate plastic and epoxy materials. It is a common substance in plastic products such as CDs and DVDs, camera shells, epoxy paint, epoxy films, inks and copy paper. It is also common in building materials, electronics and as surface treatment on the inside of packaging for foodstuffs. Low levels of BPA can migrate and thus end up in the food we eat.

SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT BISPHENOL A?

The risk of Bisphenol A is not the substance itself but how much you are exposed to it. The amount of BPA we are exposed to is not harmful to us. It is estimated that people exposed most to BPA get in say 1.5 micrograms per kilogram of body weight and day. The tolerable value of Bisphenol A is 4 micrograms per kilo body weight and day.

Children and adolescents are generally more exposed to BPA than adults.

HOW DO I AVOID BISPHENOL A?

It is possible to avoid exposing oneself and others to the risks that some plastics could cause by making conscious material choices. All products in this catalogue are produced in materials that are completely free form Bisphenol A and other bisphenols. This makes the products particularly suitable for environments where children are present.

Mälarplast can offer special colours, print, materials or even entirely new designs on request. The production is run in accordance with LEAN/5S and ensures full traceability and quality control of each product batch. Naturally they are also certified according to ISO standards 9001 and 14001.

Mälarplast is constantly working on environmental improvements and minimizing production waste. This is why many of the parts manufactured by Mälarplast originate from recycled materials or bioplastics.
