Problems & Solutions Designs of the ¡bOxx! Advantages & Disadvantages Survey Results Marketed Designs and Sources Tasks pending
Problem
Lunchbox does not maximise space It is too small Takes up too much unnecessary space when it is
empty
Solution
Multi-compartment Lunchbox› Different compartments to store different food
at the same time› Dividing the lunchbox into different
compartments› Adding detachable compartments› Not feasible in the end because there were
similar designs in the market.
Problem
Very tiny hole in which the thread can go through needle
Hard to thread for many people
Solution
Needle Threader› Help people with poor eyesight or shaky hands
to thread needles› Idea derived from an instrument found in
sewing boxes› Not feasible in the end because there were
similar designs in the market.
Problem
It is very troublesome for both students and teachers to carry many items at once
Some people used containers like plastic bags, but there were many flaws (e.g. easily torn)
Solution
¡bOxx!› Develop a box which can both store large
items and can easily be kept in a bag when empty
› This concept led us to develop what we called ¡bOxx!

Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages› Can store many small items or a few long/bulky items
(Versatile)› Can keep papers straight› Portable› Compactable
Disadvantages› Heavy to carry (If wood is used)› Troublesome to carry around
Some Comments on Design: › If you add a handle, it would be easier to
transport and carry› Have Velcro at the bottom left corner of the
box (applicable to both designs) so the side of wood which would be placed there in the first diagram can stick to it
› Might be hard to make without professional help
Survey
Some Comments on Usage: › Large for holding daily items› Should be good but I think there are similar boxes made
before
Survey
Some Comments on Materials: › Wood is heavy; try to think of another material to
use› Make the material plastic, with thick cloth on the inside› Try to make it hard/sturdy
Survey
Some Comments on Folding Process: › Hinge the folds› Won't you need space to fold the folder?› Are you sure it works? It might work in 2D, but might
not in 3D; have you considered the sides of the box yet?
Survey
Commercially available designs
A box which can be extended to place the item in and compacted to seal it. However, this means that the items have to fit in that space and if the items are larger there would be a gap.
A box that can be compacted till it is flat. However, our design can still carry items when compacted while this cannot.
Tasks pending
Source materials Obtain help to construct ¡bOxx! Query if there are any flaws, and correct Again, final query for flaws
Tasks Pending: Improvements
We are thinking of adding a handle for easy of transportation and carrying.
Also, we consider using multiple layers of plastic to make it durable and lightweight.
One of the people who took the survey suggested thick cloth inside and we are looking into that as well.
