Both, Either, Niether
Use:
· Both - ambosExample: I have two cats. I like both of them.
· Neither – ni / tampoco / ningunoExample: Neither of my cats is grey.
NOTE: use a singular verb after neither.Example(NOT correct): Neither my cats are big.Example (CORRECT): Neither of my cats is big.
· Either – o / cualquiera (entre dos opciones)Example: We can eat at either restaurant.
Form:
· Before a noun.Example: Both restaurants are good.Example: Neither restaurant is good.Example: Either restaurant is good.
· They can be used with ‘of’. But you must always use adeterminer (the, my, these, those, his etc.) before thenoun.
Example: I like both restaurants.orI like both of the restaurants.
NOTE: you don’t have to use of with both.Both of the children like chocolate cake. (Correct)Both children like chocolate cake. (Correct)
· You can use:
Both ... and ...Example: Both Mike and Susan like this restaurant.
Neither ... nor ...Example: Neither Mike nor Susan like this restaurant.
Either ... or ....Example: We can take them to either this restaurantor that restaurant.
