Bucks Under 10’s Score draw with FoxesBootle Bucks under 10’s had their impressive run halted on Sundayby conceding two goals in five minutes to draw 2-2 with NethertonFoxes.

The Bucks played some scintillating football at times but it wasproving difficult to breakthrough a stubborn defence. HarrisonBeesley, Michael Bowness and Jack Whorton all going close.Eventually a quick break after Jack Miley broke up the play at theback, he played a great pass in field to Jack Whorton. Whortonturned and played Michael Bowness down the right. Bowness beattwo players before cutting inside and playing Harrison Beesley whojinxed then played a sneaky pass into Jack Reardon. Reardon tookone touvh then rifled a fantastic drive from outside the box into theroof of the net.

After half time the Bucks seemed to switch off and within 5 minutesfound themselves two goals down. Credit to Netherton Foxes wholooked dangerous going forward.

Soon the Bucks got back on the front foot and from a free kick fired inby Jack Reardon, Harrison Beesley was on hand to prod home.

Soon after Joseph Harold turned and fired low into the box. ThenSean Miller played a great ball into Bowness but he couldn’t find thenet. At the back Ryan Beesley broke up a counter with a great tackle, before calmly playing the ball back to keeper Luke Bennett. Bennetthimself tipped a good effort over the bar to keep the score 2-2.

The original Bootle F.C. were formed in 1880 and played at HawthorneRoad. They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. In 1889–90 Bootlebecame founder members of the Football Alliance, narrowly missing outon the football league to the blues. That season was the mostsuccessful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finalsof the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When theAlliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle becamefounder members of the new Second Division. However, despite arespectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after oneseason (and were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) and seeminglydisappeared due to financial problems.

Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic.was later formed with the new team initially playing in the LiverpoolLeagues. In 1948 when the club were elected to the LancashireCombination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootlestruggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew andfolded during the 1953–54 campaign.

In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the localleagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool CountyCombination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club revertedback to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a yearlater joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire CountyLeague, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted tothe First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of theleagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, whichBootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The clubspent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when weunfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despitefinishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool CountyCombination. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected backinto Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle wonpromotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won theChampionship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL PremierDivision Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012.

2013 saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out withthree games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they putthat disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the firsttime in 124 years.

Game,

Good evening and welcome to theDelta Taxis Stadium for tonight’sNorthwest Counties Premier Divisiongame and welcome to our opponentsWinsford United.

Although it was only two weeks ago sincewe had that great win over RuncornLinnets it seems like a long time ago!Again, as I’m writing about adisappointing result on Saturday, I can’thelp but think if we would have taken all out chances we would still havewon the game.

Our defensive play must improve though. It just isn’t us conceding 11goals in three games and we must improve on this as it is not goodenough.

I’m still hopeful our form will improve and its a problem that as soon aswe put our finger on I’m sure we will be back to our best.

It’s important that you keep supporting the team and the club and keepthe faith and we will turn the results around.

Please show your support and get behind the lads under the floodlightsand get the win.

Previous Leagues: Cheshire County League; Northern Premier League

HWinsford United have a long and proud history, having been formed wayback in 1883. In those early days, the club was called Over Wanderers andcompeted in the Welsh Combination Football League. After a few seasons, theclub changed to its present name and its present ground - Barton Stadium -although it was called Great Western Playing Field at the outset. The clubbrought on many good players during this period and after losing severalplayers to Football League clubs, they experienced a somewhat unsuccessfulspell that resulted in the club folding.

United reformed in 1913, thanks in the main to the then secretary, Mr W HBurning, but it was short lived as World War One broke out. After thecessation of hostilities, United regrouped with a new committee headed by MrR G Barton (hence Barton Stadium) and the club became a founder memberof the Cheshire League, winning the Championship in its second season. Thatwas to be one of the few successes as the Blues struggled to survive both onand off the field. During the War, Barton Stadium was almost stripped bare toaid the war effort. After the war, United became a Limited company and the1950s saw the Blues win the Cheshire League Cup three times and aCheshire Senior Cup victory. In the 60s and early 70s the Blues returned tostruggling ways with only a rare FA Cup First Round appearance atPeterborough to shout about. United lost the game 4-1. That match acted as aspringboard and, under John Williams, Winsford United hit the glory trail.

Between 1976 and 1980, the Blues won the Cheshire League title in 1976/77,were runners-up in 1979/80 and set a new record (which still stands) bywinning the League Cup four seasons out of five, including a hat-trick of wins(1977/79/80/81).

They won the Cheshire Senior Cup in 1980 and made an appearance in the quarterfinalsof the FA Trophy in 1978. It was in John Williams’ final season that the formerEverton and Welsh International goalkeeper, Neville Southall, was sold to Bury for£6,000. A sell on clause later netted United a club record figure of around £30,000 whenhe moved to Goodison Park.

After that halcyon period, Uniteds fortunes again nose-dived. The Cheshire Leaguechanged its name to the North West Counties and the Northern Premier League formed afirst division in 1987/8. The Blues were invited to join but they never really set the placeon fire, seventh place being the best achieved. In January 1991, Winsford were bottom ofthe NPL First Division and facing a drop back down to the NWCFL. The club then pulleda masterstroke by appointing Mike McKenzie as team manager. The Blues lost only fourmore games and avoided the drop. A piece of silverware was added when they beatNorthwich Vics in the local cup final. The following season, 1991/92, they gainedpromotion to the Premier Division, finishing as runners up and reaching the First Roundof the FA Cup for only the third time in the club’s history. Season 1992/93 will godown in Uniteds folklore as ˜Maccaâs men won an astonishing five trophies - the NPLChallenge Cup, NPL President’s Cup, Cheshire Senior Cup, Mid-Cheshire SeniorCup and NPL Runners Up Cup. The Blues finished second to Southport and their pointstotal is a record for the most points accrued without winning the title. Sadly the team thenbroke up in the summer of 1993 when Mike McKenzie was lured into Conference football.Three of the side joined pro clubs - Darren Sheridan (Barnsley), Wayne Collins (Crewe)and Jon Whitney (Huddersfield).

The club was given a boost during the summer of 1996 when they received nearly£90,000 from the sale of Wayne Collins to Sheffield Wednesday from Crewe Alexandra.Three seasons later under the management of Dalton Steele, (in only his first season atthe club) United finished seventh in the league and lifted the Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup.Season 1998/1999 saw Dalton Steele leave for Chorley half way through the campaign, taking nearly all the team with him; Mark Came took over as stand-in Manager andfinished the season off with a makeshift side. The club received another tremendousboost early in 1999 when goalkeeper Andy Oakes who had signed for Hull City for amodest fee but with a 25% sell-on clause was signed by Derby County for £480,000giving Winsford a record amount for a Non-League sell-on clause. The board of directorswere determined that this money was to be spent sensibly on improving the infrastructureof the club, the first move being to install Football League standard floodlights.

Mark Came was then appointed as manager for the 1999/2000 campaign but a run ofpoor results saw Kevin Tully put in the hot seat. What followed was the worst run ofresults in the clubs history and relegation for the first time. At the start of the 2000/2001season in UniBond Division One Mr Tully left, and Steve Shaughnessy was appointedPlayer/Manager. The team performed well throughout the season but administrativeerrors resulted in 6 points being deducted and instead of finishing in a mid-table spot theywere relegated to The First Division of the North West Counties League.

They had a successful season in the North West Counties Football League, finishingseventh. But Steve Shaughnessy left at the end of the season and Alan Walker and NickDavis were appointed as joint managers. They brought together a squad of players thatwas a combination of youth and experience.

Ian Street remained in charge for the 2011-2012 season and Kevin Bircumshaw wasappointed as his Assistant. The team made a great start to the season, spendingseveral weeks at or near the top of the table and promotion looked a distinct possibility. However a series of suspensions and injuries saw the team have a bad run in theweeks leading up to Christmas gaining just two points from a possible twenty-four.

The form was recovered in the New Year but the gap had become too great andWinsford ended the season in seventh place.

There was a massive boost for the club when the localcouncil not only became the club’s main sponsorbut they revealed their “Neighbourhood Plan†which centred on developing the centre of the townnext to the river with a purpose-built ConferenceStandard stadium for the Blues with the BartonStadium being used for housing. Although it is early

days it has given the club and its supporters a greatdeal of optimism.

The summer break saw Ian Street decide to take apost closer to home and he accepted the job ofManager at Ashton Athletic. The Managers position

was advertised and although there were manycreditable applicants the board had no hesitation in appointing

former Flixton Manager Lloyd Morrison with Kevin Bircumshawremaining as his Assistant.

The summer of 2013 saw great changes taking place at the stadium with the news that1874 Northwich were to share the ground and their enthusiastic supporters helped tobring the ground up to a high standard, Also E.ON adopted the club for their 2013Community Project and carried out a great refurbishment of the facilities including anew toilet block, a first aid suite and help in restoring the floodlights. They also suppliedthe materials for all the maintenance work that had to be carried out.

However, with everything in place for a serious assault on the league title and over£20,000 spent on improving the facilities and pitch, the club was rocked when twoweeks before the start of the season Lloyd Morrison announced he was going toMossley AFC as Joint Manager and not only that, he expected to take sixteenregistered players with him. This led to an acrimonious situation between the two clubsthat at the time of writing is still not yet resolved with Mossley unable to register theplayers and Winsford refusing to allow their dual registration.

The board acted quickly to appoint Eddy Haslam as Manager with Rob Byrne as hisAssistant and Kevin Bircumshaw remaining as coach. With only a couple of weeks toput a team together Eddy worked hard to bring in a squad of quality players to beginthe campaign.
