It is less famous than Arran, Mull, Skye or lona, but it has a charm of its own. Originally part of the County of Bute, it is now part of North Ayrshire. On Saturday afternoon why not walk or cycle round the island -11 miles - and have lunch at Fintry Bay Tearoom, or take the Inner Circle walk to the top of the island with stunning views up and down the Clyde. Visit the Cathedral of the Isles, the smallest in Europe, designed by William Butterfield, the famous Victorian architect of many churches including St Ninian's Cathedral, Perth, and St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne.
