Prewar history of the Kimber era. The start of Morris Garages, Cecil Kimber's efforts to build a separate Marque, model by model introduction, record breakers, Captain George Eyston, Goldie Gardner, comments from Jean Kimber Cooke, John Thornley, Jim Simpson, Wilkie Wilkinson, interspersed with modern clips of restored cars and comments by their owners. Description from Pitstop Bookshop in Perth: A well produced mix of period movie footage, interviews with Jean Kimber Cook (Cecil Kimber`s daughter), John Thornley (Mr MG) and others plus modern footage of the cars that tells the story of MG from Morris Garages days in 1921 to the introduction of the MG TC in 1945. Entertaining and informative narrative makes this DVD great viewing for any sports car fan or MG enthusiast. We have previously stocked an abridged 60minute version of this DVD. This is the original 95minute production and is well worth the extra cost. Postwar, Leonard Lord was in charge, Kimber forced to 'resign', John Thornley assistant to George Probert, TC to USA, Phil Hill's TC, YType, Gardner EX135, Thornley to General Manager and attempts to rebuild MG Marque, then Leonard Lord in charge after AustinMorris merger, Sydney Enever and the MGA, EX 179 and Eyston, eventually the MGA is approved by Lord, MGA at Le Mans, Twincam, EX 181 Moss and Hill, Syd Enever, Don Hayter describes Sprite/Midget and leads into the MGB & MGB GT, Healey replacement MGC, the Leyland takeover, Costello V8, GT V8, safety & emissions for USA, 'might have beens', Abingdon closure, Heritage MGB & Midget bodies Producer`s notes from Pitstop website: Once World War II was over, the MG Car Company hurried back into production with the MGTC. Steel was rationed, and England needed an infusion of foreign currency. The MG Car Company turned to the export markets, and a decadeslong love affair began between America and the little British sports car. From cars based on prewar designs to the futuristic Roaring Raindrop and the beloved MGB, MGs were synonymous with fun and excitement until the end came in 1980 when British Leyland closed the MG factory in England. But the demolition of the longtime home of MGs wasn`t the end of the story as enthusiasts around the world kept the marque alive after the company closed.

MGB The Story of the Best Selling MG Sports Car (50 minutes) The MGB was the most successful MG sports car ever built, quickly achieving classic status by epitomising the Britishness and winning hearts throughout the world. More than 500,000 were sold between its conception in 1962 and the eventual closure of the famous Abingdon factory, where it was built, in 1980. Masses of archive footage, much of which has never been seen before, is combined with interviews from key people of the era to explore the myths, legends and facts behind its design, production and competition history. John Thornley, the legendary 'gaffer'; Don Hayter, its gifted designer; and Stuart Turner, manager of the successful competitions team; all speak freely of the camaraderie and the secrets of those times.
Safety Fast 1932 (same film as in V25) (14 minutes) This quality black and white silent film made by the Morris Cine Department follows a young couple on their tour of the factory before collecting their new car. It features rare period footage of the MG works and personnel.
Exhibit B801 1950 (same film as in V25) (17 minutes) The story of Goldie Gardner's record breaking car EX135 from display at the Festival of Britain to the land speed record runs on the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA. The film includes record breaking attempts using a standard MG TD.
Magic Carpet 1962 (same film as in V25) (10 minutes)
A promotional film for the US market showing a young couple test driving their new MG 1100 on a visit to the UK. On the way the call in at Goodwood where Graham Hill just happens to be on hand for a test drive
Safety Fast (1950) Postwar developments, TC, TD, Ian Applyard in TD to the Alps Ladies First (1956) The MGA caused a sensation when it was launched and soon proved itself in competition. Nancy Mitchell used it to become only the second Englishwoman to win a coveted Coupe des Alpes in 1956. Of Time and Speed (1956) Captain Eyston leads team to Bonneville Class F record breaking with EX 179 driven by Ken Miles and Johnny Lockett MG Does It Again (1957) Away from the racing circuit, join brave Stirling Moss sweeping across the white sands of the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah in the streamlined EX181 using an engine based on the MGA twincam. He succeeded in breaking five international Class F records with an average twoway top speed of 245.64 mph.
Sports Car of the Year (1958) Witness the development of MGA twincam from the EX 182 prototype which raced at the 1955 Le Mans, through to its final testing at the challenging proving ground of MIRA. Magic Carpet (1962) LISTED BUT ACTUALLY ON VOLUME ONE (Magic Carpet, the story of the 1100 should be on this disc but is actually on Volume One.) 6R4 Update (1986) And finally, speed on into the 1980s in the feisty 6R4, the Group B rally version of the MG Metro with specially adapted bodywork.
