People often go to bonfire parties with their friends and families. These parties take place all over the country. At these parties, there is always a big bonfire (Freudenfeuer). There are usually lots of food and drink stalls. There is often a lot of food to choose from – from burgers and pies, to soups and hot dogs, and many more types of delicious food. The food is usually nice and warm, because the weather is normally quite cold in November. Lots of people also like eating toffee apples (kandierte Äpfel). Toffee apples are eaten on a stick, a little bit like a lollipop (Lutscher). Yummy! But the best part of bonfire parties is the fireworks. There are so many different types. Some of them screech into the air (steigen in die Luft mit einem kreischenden Geräusch), some of them explode into lots of beautiful colours, and some of them make a really loud “BANG” high up in the sky! Another popular firework is very small – it’s called a sparkler (Wunderkerze) and you hold it in your hand. You can write letters and words in the air with them. They are really fun! Do you also have fireworks in Germany? When?
