The sight is now a reserve called Nelson Park named after the Nelson Brothers who built the works. HIPI AND TUNA
This is Hipi Hipi means sheep in Maori
Hipi and Tuna were tug boats which carried the meat down the Taruheru river out to the harbour where a ship was able to freeze the meat before sending it overseas. Hipi had a funnel that bent down when it went under bridges.My great great grandfather worked on the Hipi.
