Shipping Instructions UpdateWhat is new in the BNSF.com Shipping Instructions Web Application?
• When applicable, all BNSF Railway customers, who are using a grain pattern for their shipments, are required to provide a COT or Grain Permit Number when submitting a waybill
• This change applies to single car waybills as well as multi car waybills
Do all of the Shipments Types (listed in grid below) require a COT or a Grain Permit Number?
• Yes, regardless of the Shipment Type, these will require either a COT or Grain Permit Number

Log In to Shipping Instructions• Go to BNSF.com• Login with your “Customer Login”
• Go to the “Ship” tab and click on “Shipping Instructions”
Shipping Instruction – Single Billing1. In the “Equipment” section, complete all required
fields:• Lead Car Information (Equipment Initial and
Number i.e. BNSF 12345)• Weight, Weight Type, Qualifier and Weight
Code2. Enter applicable COT/Permit # for your shipment.
• The COT and/or Permit # will be associated to your single car shipment
Only provide the COT or Grain Permit # on Shipment Types that accept either.
Please Do Not provide both.

Shipping Instruction – Multi Car Billing
A. To submit billing for more than one car (with all the same shipping instruction details), click on “Add/Del/Modify” button in the Equipment section.

Helpful Tips:♦ The Grain Permit # can only be
entered on the Grain Entry screen♦ All COT #’s provided on a multi
car waybill must roll up to the same Grain Permit #
♦ If submitting waybills for equipment that will be using the same pattern but rolls up to a different Grain Permit #, click on the “Save” button and then click on the “Repeat Pattern” link to enter details about additional cars

Steps B through D will show you different ways to add multiple pieces of equipment to a waybill.
B. You can individually add each piece of equipment - one at a time - with the associated COT # -- OR --
C. You can cut/paste or manually enter several pieces of equipment in the freeform field and import the list
D. Once equipment has been added, you have the option to edit the details associated to an individual car
Helpful Tips:♦ Instead of manually entering the COT
# to all listed equipment, utilize the COT # Range feature
♦ Click on the “Done” button or the “Entry Page” link to return to main Grain Entry screen

Once all required information has been added, click on the transmit button. You should receive the following confirmation:
Select “Transmit” again to submit waybill
How to Access Your COT/Permit InformationYou can access your COT/Permit information via Rail Car Equipment Request (RER)• Sign into BNSF.com• Under “Ship” tab look for:
• Railcar Equipment Request
1. Provide 1-3 character prefix of origin city/station
