And just what became of the famous Dean brothers? Paul returned
to pitch 19 wins in his 1935 season. Sad thing though, he injured
his shoulder the very next year and never quite returned to his
full pitching strength. My little brother went ahead and married a
Ms. Dorothy Sandusky after a whirlwind two-month romance in 1934.
When those press people asked him what his big brother, Ol Diz,
thought of the quicky marriage, Paul just said, Its none of his
businesss, anyhow. That rascal. And you know what? Together Paul
and Dorothy had two sons, two daughters, and 15 grandchildren! They
were together til the day he died.
And what about Ol Diz, you say? Well, I made me a pretty fair
share of cash in the years after that 1934 World Series, putting my
name on just about everything from watches to caps, toothpaste to
shavin cream. Darnit, I learned in those years that having lots of
dough could really be trouble! Everyone wanting me to sign my name
here and sign my name there! Was quite the hassle. I was bout ready
to leave it all behind to go fishin in Novus Scofus! In 1937, I got
myself injured, and in 1938 was traded to the Chicago Cubs, where I
finished off my playing career.
But everyone knows Dizzy aint never been down and out! In 1941,
I became a play-by-play broadcaster for the Cardinals and the St.
Louis Browns. Best gig I could of asked for, Ill tell ya, and I was
good at it to boot! I became real well known for my particular
phrases, like sayin slud instead of slid and the runners are
returning to their respectable bases.
I liked to add a little color to my broadcasts, sometimes even
giving play-by-plays of special moments, like a hotdog wrapper
blowing around the stadium in the breeze.
Dean earned money by endorsing products. When he said he used
them, other people wanted to buy the product to be like Dean. Can
you find ads with celebrity endorsements in the newspaper?
As a broadcaster, Dean wanted to entertain as well as inform.

Extra Innings!
My bosses said I should stick to the happenings in the ball
game, but I had a little more fun than that. When the action was
slow, I liked to entertain the crowd with a bit o whistlin. My
favorite song was The Wabash Cannonball and dont ya know I even got
to record it!
Once, while in the booth, I let out a great, big belch! Dizzy
dont do nothing halfway, dont ya know. Excuse me, folks, I says.
Its very impolite to belch, especially over the mic, unless you
excuse yourself. I done belched and I done excused myself, so lets
go, everything is hunky dory.
Crowd liked that quite a bit, Im sure.
Course, I was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953 at
the age of 44. Me and Pat moved on down to Mississippi, and this
sharecroppers son who once spent his days fixing just to pick
cotton lived his life as a bonafide millionaire!
Lets remember folks, I played ball in a time when things wasnt
so certain. The 1930s were lean times for many, hard times for all.
I seen hard times, Ill tell ya. We all has. But when a mans got
mettle, when a mans got spunk, he can go right on ahead and make
something of himself. I sure did. I was a Cardinal, and I was a
champion. Anybody who ever had the privilege of seeing me play knew
that I was the greatest pitcher in the
whole world. And now you know it, too.
I told ya, it aint braggin if you can back it up.

Nutritional Building Blocks ANTIOXIDANTS
Antioxidants help protect your body from damage caused by free
radical mole-cules. Some free radicals help you digest
food, and turn food into energy, but having too many causes
damage to healthy cells, creating health problems including disease
and aging. Excess free radicals can come from sun exposure,
pollution, stress, and high-fat foods. You need enough
antioxi-dants to stabilize all the extra free radicals in your
body. Antioxidants come from vitamins and minerals found in fruits
and vegetables.

Senior 2015shelbybremer March Madness. Those two
words could make a person crazy. Nowadays, its nearly
impos-sible to go through the month of March without hearing about
the event. Some anticipate this three-week tournament all year,
while others cringe at the thought of going back to work the day
after a game and listening to their col-leges complain about their
now ruined brackets.
March Madness is arguably the most popular sports tournament in
the United States. Its origin comes from an Illinois high school
boys basketball tournament first held in 1908. The annual
tournament, sponsored by the Illinois High School Association, grew
from a small invitational event to over 900 schools competing in
the 1930s. The games were played in front of sold-out crowds at the
Huff Gymnasium at the Universi-ty of Illinois, where it was held up
until 1962. March Madness was the term used to describe the
ex-citement surrounding the Illinois state high school basketball
tour-
naments, and was later adopted to describe the NCAA
tournaments.
Despite how you feel about March Madness, chances are you or
someone you know filled out a bracket. For many people, filling out
the bracket is literally madness. Some believe its all about
statistics; others believe its just one huge guessing game. But,
have you ever thought about what your chances are of guess-ing the
perfect bracket? Well, DePaul University mathemat-ics professor
Jeff Bergen did. He figured out that you have a one in
9,223,372,036,854,775,808 chance of filling out a perfect bracket.
That number is in the quintillions. Even with additional knowledge
of basketball and the history of the tournament, the odds of
picking a perfect bracket would be approximately one in 128
billion.
The math behind it is really quite simple. There are 64 teams in
the tournament. All you need to do to pick the perfect bracket is
predict the winners of 63 games because
Guessing Gamethe winner never loses. According to Bergan, It
would be easier to win the Mega Millions lottery two times in a row
buying one ticket both times than it would be to get a perfect
bracket. The profes-sor also stated, Getting a perfect bracket is
also the mathematical equivalent of picking the winning party of
each presidential election through 2264. Another interest-ing
comparison for sports fans is, It would be more likely for the next
16 World Series to be won by the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox
than it would be to pick a perfect bracket by guessing.
With the month of March com-ing to an end, along with it ends
March Madness . . . all the hopes and dreams of predicting the
perfect bracket crushed and the realization that it really is all a
guessing game. But on the bright side, theres always next year, of
course.http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-march-madness-probability-met-20150303-story.html
