The A+ program provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who attend a participating public community college or vocational/technical school, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools. How do I apply? If you would like to apply for the A+ program, contact Shauna Farmer or Kathy Ungles. You will be required to fill out these pa- pers: the mentoring and tutoring compliance form and the student agreement form. How do I know if I am eligible? Over the years, I have fre- quently heard the quote, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Using it literally, the quote ad- vises readers to not choose or dismiss a book solely based on the appearance of its cover. Seems self-explanatory, right? As much as I would like to say I don’t base my book selection on the covers, I do. I had seen the book “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” for quite some time, but I noticed that the cover had an oddity about it and I was dissuaded me from reading it. Written by Ransom Riggs, this novel takes you through a young boy’s journey at discov- ering himself and uncovering the peculiar life of his grandfa- ther. After the mysterious pass- ing of his grandfather, Jacob is burdened with solving the death and deciphering the child- hood stories told to him by his grandfather. These bizarre tales of levitating girls and invisible boys keep Jacob up at night. Finally he receives a letter that propels him to an island where encounters his grandfather’s childhood firsthand. Jacob finds himself in a life-threatening situation where he is forced to make a decision that could fol- low him for the rest of his life. This haunting and out-of-the- ordinary trilogy captivates its readers from the first chapter. All three books provide chill- ing images that intensify the plot and bring the stories to life. The photos were discovered by Riggs himself and helped to in- spire all three novels. “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” received countless positive reviews and was given four out of five stars on goodreads.com. I would highly recommend this book to those readers who love a good adventure story with an eerie twist.

Over the years, I have fre-quently heard the quote, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Using it literally, the quote ad-vises readers to not choose or dismiss a book solely based on the appearance of its cover. Seems self-explanatory, right? As much as I would like to say I don’t base my book selection on the covers, I do. The cover is what pulls me in or, on the other hand, what makes me put the book back on the shelf.

I had seen the book “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” for quite some time, but I noticed that the cover had an oddity about it and I was dissuaded me from reading it. Written by Ransom Riggs, this novel takes you through a young boy’s journey at discov-ering himself and uncovering the peculiar life of his grandfa-ther.

After the mysterious pass-ing of his grandfather, Jacob is burdened with solving the death and deciphering the child-

hood stories told to him by his grandfather. These bizarre tales of levitating girls and invisible boys keep Jacob up at night. Finally he receives a letter that propels him to an island where encounters his grandfather’s childhood firsthand. Jacob finds himself in a life-threatening situation where he is forced to make a decision that could fol-low him for the rest of his life.

This haunting and out-of-the-ordinary trilogy captivates its readers from the first chapter. All three books provide chill-ing images that intensify the plot and bring the stories to life. The photos were discovered by Riggs himself and helped to in-spire all three novels.

“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” received countless positive reviews and was given four out of five stars on goodreads.com. I would highly recommend this book to those readers who love a good adventure story with an eerie twist.
