My dear parishioners, On this First Sunday of Lent, I want to make you aware of our next two Lenten missions that are coming up. The first one will be in English and will follow the format we have had the last two years. At the weekend Masses on March 3 & 4, Caroline Gam-bale-Dirkes and her husband Daniel Dirkes will speak to invite you to the mission. From their website: “2TIM4 Ministries is the husband and wife team of Dan Dirkes and Caroline Gambale-Dirkes and is founded on a deep desire to respond to St. Pope John Paul the Great's call for a New Evangelization. With more than 40 years of com-bined ministry experience, they both have a passion for evan-gelizing people of all ages. 2Tim4 Ministries utilizes a blend of technology, cutting edge marketing techniques, fun illus-trations, community-building activities and powerful presentations to engage people of all ages and lead them to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dan and Caroline have ministered to families, youth and adults across the United States and Canada.” They will lead the XLT on Sunday evening (March 4), at 6 pm for the youth and young adults of our parish. Attendance is required of all students en-rolled in Confirmation I and Confirmation II. The mis-sion for adults is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, (March 5, 6, & 7), from 7:30 – 9 pm in the church. All adults are invited to attend all evenings. The English-speaking parents of children enrolled in our parish religious education program are required to attend on Tuesday evening. The theme for the mission is “Fire it Up!” Our Spanish speaking mission will be the week of March 19, 20, 21. The sisters who were here last year are returning, the Comunicadoras Eucaristicas del Padre Celestial, from Colombia. Madre Gabriela will be preaching “The Rosary: A Spiritual Oasis; El Rosario: Un Oasis Espiritual.” Las Hermanas Ana Ma-ria and Alejandra will also be returning and singing at the Sunday Mass March 18 and each night of the mis-sion. The mission is 7:30 – 9 pm each night, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. All adults are invited to come each evening, but all Spanish-speaking parents of children enrolled in our religious education program are required to attend on Tuesday, March 20. La primera será en inglés y seguirá el formato de los dos últimos años. En las Misas del fin de semana del 3 y 4 de marzo, Caroline Gambale-Dirkes y su esposo Daniel Dirkes hablarán para invitarlos a la misión. PARENTS! Here’s what’s going on at our Youth Night this weekend!

THE WOUND: a night on the sin of humanity Sin is a wound to our soul. When we choose to sin, we wound our relationships: our relationship with God, with others, and even with ourselves. These wounds can sometimes be quite lasting because our sins have different levels of seriousness. Mortal sins separate us from our relationship with God while venial sins strain our relationship with God (CCC 1855). The more we choose to sin, the more we damage our relationships, and the deeper our wounds can become.

Sin is not easy to talk about because no one likes to make mistakes. It is very difficult for us to admit that we sometimes choose to do wrong or fail to do good. Often times, people forget that there is so much love, healing, and grace offered to us from Christ.

In fact, one of the titles given to Jesus is the Divine Physician. Jesus healed those who were physically and spiritually wounded. Jesus was known as a healer, before He was known as a Savior. Conversation Starters: 1. What is your response to the image of Jesus as a Divine Physician or a healer? 2. How do you think most people deal with their sins? Do they seek healing from Christ through the Church? 3. What kind of effect do you think sins have on relationships?

LA HERIDA: una noche acerca del pecado de la humanidad El pecado es una herida para nuestra alma. Cuando elegimos pecar, herimos nuestras relaciones; nuestra relación con Dios, con los demás, e incluso con nosotros mismos. Estas heridas a veces pueden ser bastante duraderas porque nuestros pecados tienen diferentes niveles de gravedad. Los pecados mortales nos separan de nuestra relación con Dios, mientras que los pecados veniales estresan nuestra relación con Dios (CIC 1855). Cuanto más elegimos pecar, más dañamos nuestras relaciones, y más profundas pueden ser nuestras heri-das.

No es fácil hablar del pecado, porque a nadie le gusta cometer errores. Es muy difícil para nosotros admitir que a veces optamos por hacer el mal, o dejar de hacer el bien. Muchas veces, la gente olvida que hay tanto amor, sanación y gracia ofrecida a nosotros por Cristo.

De hecho, uno de los títulos dados a Jesús es el Médico Divino. Jesús sanó a los que fueron físicamente y espiritualmente heridos. Jesús era conocido como sanador, antes de ser conocido como un Salvador. REFLEXIÓN/ CONVERSACIÓN EN FAMILIA 1. ¿Cuál es su respuesta a la imagen de Jesús como un médico divino, o un sanador? 2. ¿Cómo crees que la mayoría de la gente lidia con sus pecados? ¿Buscan la curación de Cristo a través de la Iglesia? 3. ¿Qué tipo de efecto piensas que tienen los pecados en las relaciones?
