PARISH PICNIC With great reluctance, I accept the verdict that we will simply not be able to hold our Parish Picnic as usual on the Sunday after Labor Day. Some folks have made some creative suggestions about other – safe – ways that we can enjoy one another. If you have any ideas, please let me know!

QUOTABLE Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is a prolife activity. It’s not a political act, it’s a moral one, intended to love your neighbors as yourself. You don’t know whether the person in the supermarket is a cancer survivor or has other risks. Protect them. Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh When receiving the Eucharist each person must remember that he is falling into the arms of God like someone dying of hunger in the wilderness of this life. Hans Urs Von Balthasar The Holy Spirit gives creativity as well as fidelity. When it comes to schools, parishes and evangelization, this is a time when we have to be open to new things. Let history strengthen you to face new challenges with confidence, rather than bind you to old ways of doing things. retiring Archbishop of St. Louis Robert Carlson
THE MISSION of Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley is to support the independent living of older adults in the communities we serve by lending a helping hand, neighbor to neighbor.
Blessed Sacrament is one of the "Cornerstone Congregations" that supports FIAGKV with a monthly allotment.
A case story from director Jennifer Waggener We never know what journey the next phone call to our office holds. Nearly every week we have the opportunity to meet people facing significant obstacles or overwhelming challenges in their lives that have brought them to a desperate place. Sometimes they've been on the phone for days with no answers. Other times they've trusted family or friends and been devastated to learn it was a mistake. Too often, by the time our phone rings, the person on the other end is convinced that nobody cares and that there is no way out of their situation. Too often, they feel alone in the world. We got one of those calls last week from an elderly woman in Putnam County. She has been paying family members a "fee" she can't afford so they will "help" her get groceries. The last two times they said they would help, she ended up with about a third of the groceries she'd paid for and was told to be grateful for it. She called us in tears. She said she'd been living on canned corn and soup for several days. When I finally got her to calm down a bit, I asked her what she needed immediately. "What can we bring you now to get you through until we find you a regular volunteer?" Her answer? Cat food and litter. "We'll absolutely get that, but what about for *you*?" I asked. "Taking care of my babies will do more for me right now than a sandwich will," she replied. "They're my heart." Well. Mine broke in two just then. We placed a full order for a variety of groceries, fit for her and for her cats. One of our amazing volunteers will pick it all up and deliver the goods to her this afternoon. As the details fell into place for us to help this woman, I couldn't help but feel so blessed to have the chance to meet her where she is, to fill a great need, no questions asked, because we can. I'm deeply grateful for the grace of decent people with a heart for their fellow neighbors. I strive to be one every morning I wake up. I don't always succeed, but it sure makes this walk through life feel a whole lot more meaningful just
to try. ❤️ Be kind. Love your neighbors. Give grace whenever possible. Isn't that what we all want from each other? It starts with me. It starts with you. We can do this life right, together.

We are extending an open invitation for you to join us. There are a multitude of ways you can be part of this volunteer movement, dedicated to helping our older neighbors live their best lives in their golden years. You can DONATE! Financial support of our work is vital to its sustainability and is the constant struggle of our small but mighty nonprofit. Your contribution is 100% tax deductible and received with gratitude. You can VOLUNTEER! We often say, "Many are needed, all our welcome!" And it's true! Our programs are built to ensure that anyone who wants to serve will have an opportunity. Whether you have a couple of hours a month to give or are looking to get heavily involved - we've got you covered. You can SPREAD THE WORD! Are you a member of a community organization? Does the company you own or work for facilitate volunteer work days? Is your congregation open to innovative ways to serve their community through mission and service? We'd love to talk to you! You can LIKE & SHARE our social media posts - we're everywhere! Instagram? YEP. Twitter? YOU KNOW IT. Facebook? OH YEAH. We've even got a LinkedIn page, if that's MORE YOUR THING. Our mission is not that complicated: to support the independent living of older adults in the communities we serve by lending a helping hand, neighbor to neighbor. But we can't do it without your support. Our invitation stands...today and always. We hope you'll join us.
The 2020 Summit on Race Matters in West Virginia, presented by The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (in which we have some of our parish reserve funds invested), had a spectacular launch last week. 36 donors' financial contributions made the Summit possible.
