Scripture readings can be found at : http://www.usccb.org/bible

First Reading: The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant; he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry! (Is 5:7) In the Old Testament reading, the Prophet Isaiah (8th century B.C.) sings a parable in which he compares God’s people to a vineyard that produces sour grapes. Psalm: The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel. (Ps 80) The

Responsorial Psalm repeats that Israel was that disappointing vineyard.

Second Reading: Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you. (Phil 4:6-9) The New Testament

reading from Saint Paul’s “Epistle of Joy” offers tender encouragement and advice to the Philippians – and to us. Instead of thinking so much about our troubles and failings, we are to think more about what is good in our lives.

Gospel: “Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.” (Mt 21:43) The Gospel is a parable that refers to the growing opposition between Jesus and the chief priests. The parable is highly allegorical – the landowner is God, the vineyard is Israel, the tenants are the Israelites, the servants are the prophets, the son is Jesus.

Liturgy of the Word with Communion,

here at Blessed Sacrament, each Thursday and Saturday at 9am…

Join us for this 25-30 minute service led by

Deacon Joe, with Bible readings, prayer

intentions, music and Communion.

Join us in our Church parking lot with your beloved pets Today, October 4, at Noon. We invite all dogs, cats, hamsters, parrots, fish (bring water), horses

(bring shovel), and other of God’s creatures to gather with their humans for a blessing, This Christian tradition is in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi and his love for all animals; his feast day is today.

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Who has authority over God’s kingdom? While we know that the obvious answer is Jesus, that is not the answer our lives always reveal. We struggle with wanting control over God’s kingdom. We wrestle with ownership, privilege, status, and the protection of our rights. However, at the end of the day nothing in this world or in the one to come belongs to us. All that we see and know to be true belong to God, and Jesus is the only one who has any authority. How often do we defer any of our decision making to God? We often conduct our business as if we are the owner, lord and master of it all, but sadly we are not. God gives us the means and the potential to bear good Gospel-centered fruit. This desire and capacity exist within each individual. Unless we really acknowledge and accept who is ultimately in charge, the type of love, justice, peace, and other good fruits God desires for the world will never be realized. ©LPi

First Reading: The prophets of ancient Israel often used the term “vineyard” as a metaphor for God’s chosen people. Why do you think Isaiah and the other prophets saw this as an effective teaching tool? Second Reading: Paul teaches the Philippians that prayer and a positive attitude is key to settling our anxious hearts and minds. When have you put this advice into practice? Gospel: Jesus directs this harsh parable of the tenants to the religious leaders of Jerusalem. Do you think Jesus’ words led any of them to repentance?

Thank You, Father Joe... A special thank you and many blessings to

Father Joe Manerowski for faithfully shepherding us this summer by presiding at

Mass for our Blessed Sacrament community. We are so glad that you were here, Father, to

share your priestly ministry, spiritual gifts, and valuable insights at Bolton Landing this year. We hope and pray that it is within God’s plan for you to come back to us next year. Thank

Parish in Crisis Fund Drive Due to the shortfall in our offertory collections during the pandemic, the

Finance Council and I have decided to have a special Parish in Crisis collection to try to

raise additional monies to cover our everyday operating expenses. Our revenues

are down 40% - 50% from our normal summer income. A mailing which outlines

information concerning this situation in more detail has been sent to everyone we currently have listed on our

parish roster. If you didn’t receive a mailing and would like to help Blessed Sacrament Church in this time of

need, take one of the Parish in Crisis letters that are at the doors of the church or call the church office at 518 644-

3861 to have a letter mailed to your home. You can also give directly to this campaign online by visiting our website www.blessedsacramentbolton.org and clicking the Help our Parish in Crisis button in

the upper right corner.

Forty Days for Life is a worldwide campaign that aims to end abortion through peaceful prayer, fasting and witness. This year it will take place September 23 through November 1, 7am to 7pm daily. Please visit www.rcda.org/40days for

more information on how you can participate locally. Or visit www.40daysforlife.com/queensbury to sign up for vigil hours near the Planned Parenthood in Queensbury.

The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was instituted to honor Mary for the Christian victory over the Turks at Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Pope St. Pius V and all Christians

had prayed the Rosary for victory. The Rosary, or the Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is one of the best prayers to Mary, the Mother of God. Pope Benedict XVI invites all families to pray the Rosary for

the intentions of the Pope, the mission of the Church and peace. "It is as if every year Our Lady invited us to rediscover the beauty of this prayer, so simple and profound." The Rosary, a "contemplative and Christocentric prayer, inseparable from the meditation of Sacred Scripture," is "the prayer of the Christian who advances in the pilgrimage of faith, in the following of Jesus, preceded by Mary," said the

Pontiff. Things to Do: ~ Pray the Rosary, or 5 decades of the Rosary tonight with your family. Continue this practice through October, the month that is especially dedicated to the Rosary. ~Learn the Luminous Mysteries.
