Important informationBefore you use your car audio systemfor the first time, please take the time toread the instruction manual carefullyand make yourself familiar with the au-dio equipment. Keep this manual handyin your car for future reference.

Traffic safetyTraffic safety is always the top prior-ity. Do not operate your car audiosystem unless the traffic conditionspermit. Familiarize yourself with theequipment before you start driving.Always make sure that you are stillable to hear any warning signalscoming from outside the vehicle,such as police or fire engine sirens,at all times.Consequently, you should always se-lect a moderate volume for playingyour car audio system while you aredriving.

Connecting additional devices(option)You can connect additional devices tothe radio:

• Control unit CCA 41To use the radio as a coach system(see section entitled “Tandemoutput”).

• Amplifier TA 41To increase the volume and soundin the vehicle.

• Additional playback devicesSuch as Mini Discs, CD players,MP3 players (see section entitled“External audio sources”).

• CD changersTo play CDs.

• IR remote controlFor remotely controlling the mostimportant functions.

CODE Theft ProtectionTo protect your car audio system againsttheft, it has been equipped with a four-digit code number. This number has tobe entered each time the car audio sys-tem is disconnected from its power sup-ply. The code inquiry is not activated forthe car audio system at the factory, butyou can activate it yourself.

You will find the code number in theRadio Pass.

Note:Never leave the Radio Pass in your ve-hicle!

Activating/deactivating the codeTo switch the code on/off, proceed asfollows:

➮ Press 4 to switch the car audiosystem off.

➮ Press and hold down station keys1 and 4 @ at the same time.

➮ While holding down these keys,press 4 to switch the car audiosystem on.

➮ Continue to hold down the keys 1and 4 @ until “BLAU”- “PUNKT”appears in the display B.

➮ Release the keys.

The coding has now been activated.

Each time you switch the radio on“CODE” will appear briefly in the displayB.

Deactivating the codeTo deactivate the code, follow exactlythe same steps. To ensure that unau-thorized persons do not deactivate thecode, you will be required to enter thecode to finish the process.

Entering the code number➮ Switch on the car audio system.

“CODE” and then “0000” will appear inthe display B.

➮ Press station key 1 @ repeatedlyuntil the first digit of your codenumber appears in the display B.

➮ Press station key 2 @ repeatedlyuntil the second digit of your codenumber appears in the display B.

➮ Press station key 3 @ repeatedlyuntil the third digit of your codenumber appears in the display B.

➮ Press station key 4 @ repeatedlyuntil the fourth digit of your codenumber appears in the display B.

➮ When the correct code number ap-pears in the display B, press >.

Note:If you enter the code number incorrectlythree times in succession, a waitingperiod of one hour will go into effect.“WAIT 1 H” will appear in the displayB. During this waiting period, the caraudio system must remain switched on.

Code LEDThe code LED can be set to flash in key4 when the car audio system isswitched off.

Switching the code LED on/off

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“LED ON” or “LED OFF” appears inthe display B.

➮ To switch the LED on or off, press or >.

➮ Press MENU ?.

Switching the car audiosystem on/offThe car audio system can be switchedon/off in a number of different ways.When the system is switched on, it willactivate the last settings used. It will playat the volume set last.

Note:For safety reasons, a maximum switch-on volume is set by the factory.

Switching on/off using ONbutton➮ To switch the unit on press button4.

➮ To switch the unit off press button4 for longer than two seconds.

Switching the car audio systemon/off with the ignitionThe car audio system can be switchedon and off with the ignition. To do so, donot press the ON button 4, but merelyswitch on the ignition.

Note:You can also switch the car audio sys-tem on when the ignition is switched off.

➮ Press down and hold 4 until thecar audio system switches on.

Power-off time:To prevent the car battery from runningdown, the radio will switch off again au-tomatically after a certain time haselapsed (power-off time).

Setting the power-off time

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“HRLOGIC” appears in the displayB.

➮ Use > to set the power-offtime from STOP 0 to STOP 60 infive-minute intervals.

“STOP 0” means that it is not possibleto operate the car radio with the ignitionswitched off. The default setting is15 minutes.

➮ Press MENU ?.

Switching the car audio systemon by inserting a cassette tapeIf the system is switched off and thereis no cassette in the tape deck,

➮ insert a cassette into the tape deck8 with the open side facingtowards the right until you hear itclick into place. Do not use force.

The audio system will switch on. Tapeplayback will begin.

Switching the system on withthe telephone (option)If you use the telephone when the sys-tem is switched off, it will switch on au-tomatically. And when the telephone isswitched off, the entire system willswitch off again automatically. For thisto operate correctly, the telephone mustbe connected to the car audio systemcorrectly (Terminal C2).

Switching the system on withthe microphoneIf microphone 1 (driver) is activatedwhilst the unit is switched off, the unitwill turn itself on. When the microphoneis deactivated, the unit switches offautomatically. This feature will only workif the microphone is connected to theunit correctly (Terminal D) using theenclosed adapter cable.

Note:If the radio is used in conjunction withcontrol unit CCA 41 as a coach system,the microphones must be connected tothe control unit (Terminal D).

The control unit (CCA 41) is connectedto the radio (Terminal C1) using theenclosed adapter cable.

Switching the system on withthe RC-10 P IR remote controlunit (option)➮ To switch on the system, press the

ON button Q on the RC-10 P re-mote control unit.

Volume controlThe car audio system volume can beadjusted to levels from 0 (off) to 66(maximum).

➮ To increase the volume, turn thevolume control knob 3 to the right.

➮ To decrease the volume, turn thevolume control knob 3 to the left.

“VOL” and the set value appear on thedisplay B.

MuteYou can reduce the volume of the caraudio system immediately (mute).

➮ Press 4 briefly.

Selecting the mute levelIt is possible to select the mute level.

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“MUTE LVL” appears in the displayB.

➮ Press > to select the mutelevel.

“MUTE” and the set value appear onthe display B.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU ? twice.

Outputting telephoneannouncementsIf your car audio system is equipped witha mobile telephone, it will automaticallyswitch to mute when there is an incom-ing call or when you place a call andyou will hear the caller via the car speak-ers. While the telephone call is in

progress, this option will appear in thedisplay B. This will not work unless themobile phone is connected to the caraudio system as described in the instal-lation instructions.

Outputting microphoneannouncementsYou have the option of connecting twoexternal microphones to the unit.Microphone 1 is for use by the driverand microphone 2 for use by the tourrepresentative. Microphone 1 alwayshas priority over microphone 2. Audiosource playback is interrupted as soonas a microphone is switched on. Audiosource playback continues as soon asthe microphone is switched off again.

Setting the volume for microphoneannouncementsTo set the volume for microphoneannouncements,➮ turn the volume control 3 in

microphone mode to the left orright to either decrease or increasethe volume.

Adjusting beep on or offFor a number of functions you will heara beep if you press a key for a longertime. It is possible to switch off this beep.

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“BEEP ON” or “BEEP OFF” ap-pears in the display B.

➮ To switch this function on or off,press or >.

➮ Once you have adjusted the set-tings, press MENU ?.

Adjusting the tone

Adjusting the bass➮ To adjust the bass, press AUDIO=.

“BASS” and the set value appear on thedisplay B.

➮ Turn the volume control 3 toadjust the bass setting. Turnclockwise or anti-clockwise to raiseor lower the bass.

Adjusting the treble➮ To adjust the treble, press AUDIO=.

“BASS” and the set value appear on thedisplay B.

➮ Press AUDIO = again.

“TREB” and the set value appear on thedisplay B.

➮ Turn the volume control 3 toadjust the treble setting. Turnclockwise or anti-clockwise to raiseor lower the treble.

Switching Loudness on/offLoudness boosts the bass and treblewhen the volume is low to create a morenatural sound.

➮ Press AUDIO = for approx. twoseconds.

LD will light up in the display B to indi-cate that Loudness is active.

Adjusting Loudness intensityThe Loudness boost can be set instages from one to six.

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“LOUDNESS” appears in the dis-play B.

➮ Press or > to alter the Loud-ness setting.

➮ Once you have completed adjust-ing the settings, press MENU ?twice.

Setting the Balance andFader

Adjusting the balance➮ To adjust the balance, press

GEO ;.

“BAL” and the set value appear on thedisplay B.

➮ Turn the volume control 3 toadjust the balance. Turn clockwiseor anti-clockwise to shift thevolume to right or left.

Balance “0” = middle setting

Adjusting the fader➮ To adjust the fader settings for

front/rear, press GEO ;.

“BAL” and the set value appear on thedisplay B.

➮ Press GEO ; again.

“FADER” and the set value appear onthe display B.

➮ Turn the volume control 3 toadjust the fader. Turn clockwise oranti-clockwise to shift the volume tofront or rear.

Fader “0” = middle setting

Note:The fader for front/rear cannot be setunless an additional amplifier has beenconnected.

Resetting the tone and thebalance and faderYou can reset the tone and balance/fader settings to zero.

➮ To reset these settings press GEO; for longer than two seconds.

“AUD ZERO” will appear briefly in thedisplay B.

Radio operationThis car audio system has beenequipped with an RDS radio receiver.Along with their regular station program-ming, many FM radio stations nowtransmit the RDS signal, which containssuch other information as the stationname and the programme type (PTY).

As soon as the car audio system re-ceiver detects the station name, it willappear in the display B.

Switching to the radio modeIf you are currently using the Cassetteor the CD changer,

➮ press SRC < repeatedly until“RADIO” appears in the display B.

Special RDS functions (AF, REG)The special RDS functions for AF (Al-ternativ Frequency) and REG (Re-gional) enhance the performance ofyour car audio system.

AF: If this RDS function is activated, thecar audio system continuously searchesin the background for the frequency withthe best reception for the station youhave tuned into.

REG: A number of radio stations broad-cast different regional programming atdifferent times of the day. Use REG toprevent your car audio system from tun-ing into alternativ frequencies whichmight have different programming.

Note:It is necessary to activate/deactivateREG in the menu.

Switching RDS functions on/off

➮ To take advantage of the RDSfunctions for AF and REG, pressRDS 5.

When the RDS functions have beenactivated, “RDS” will light up as a sym-bol in the display B.

Switching REG on/off

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“REG” appears in the display B.

“OFF” or “ON” will appear next to “REG”.

➮ Press or > to switch REG offor on.

➮ Press MENU ?.

Note:When the REG function is activated, theradio will try to pick up the regionalprogramme of the station you havetuned into for as long as possible. Onceyou leave the station reception range,you should switch REG off.

Selecting wavebands/memorybanksUsing this car audio system, you cantune into radio stations on the FM, MWand LW wavebands. There are threememory banks for the FM wavebandand one memory bank each for MW andLW. You can store five stations in eachof these memory banks.

Selecting the FM memory level

➮ To switch between the FM memorylevels, press FMT 1.

Selecting the MW or LW memorylevels

➮ To switch between the MW and LWmemory levels, press M•L 6.

Tuning into radio stationsYou can tune into radio stations in anumber of different ways.

Automatic seek tuning

➮ Press or >.

The radio will tune into the next avail-able station within reception range.

Adjusting seek tuning sensitivityIt is possible to adjust the sensitivity ofthe seek tuning function to tune the ra-dio into stations with strong receptionsignals only, or to those with weakerreception signals as well.

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“SENS” appears in the display B.

The currently selected setting will ap-pear in the display B. “SENS DX1” in-dicates the highest level of sensitivity,“SENS LO3” the lowest. If you select“SENS LO”, “lo” will light up in the dis-play B.

➮ Press > to select the desiredsensitivity.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU ?.

Manual station selectionYou can also tune into radio stationsmanually.

➮ Press or >.

Note:You cannot use manual tuning unlessthe RDS function are deactivated.

Paging through the broadcastingnetwork (for FM only)If a radio broadcasting network hasmore than one station, you can pagethrough the “station network”.

➮ Press or > to tune into thenext station in the network.

Note:To take advantage of this function, youmust have activated the RDS functions.It is only possible to tune into those sta-tions which have been received oncebefore already. To do this, start theTravelStore function or activate the au-tomatic seek tuning function once for theentire waveband.

Storing radio stations

Storing radio stations manually

➮ Select the desired memory bankFM1, FM2, FMT (for FM only) oreither MW or LW.

➮ Tune the radio into the desired sta-tion.

➮ Press and hold down for longerthan one second one of the stationpreset buttons 1 to 5 @ on whichyou want to store the radio station.

Storing radio stations automatically(TravelStore)You can automatically store the five ra-dio stations with the strongest receptionin your current reception area (for FMonly). These stations will be stored inthe FMT memory bank.

Note:Any stations stored previously in thememory bank will be deleted.

➮ Press and hold down FMT 1 forlonger than two seconds.

The storing process will begin. “T-STORE” will appear in the display B.After the stations have been stored, theradio will automatically begin to play thestation stored on preset button 1 for theFMT memory bank.

Recalling stored radio stations

➮ Select the desired station memorybank or waveband.

➮ Press the station button you usedto store the desired radio station.

Programme Type (PTY)In addition to the radio station name, anumber of FM stations transmit infor-mation on the type of programme theybroadcast.These programme types can include:

CULTURE TRAVEL JAZZ SPORTNEWS POP ROCK MUSIC

Using the PTY function, you can selectthe radio station according to the typeof program being broadcast.

As soon as the radio registers a radiostation broadcasting the programmetype selected, it will automatically switchfrom the station playing or the Cassetteor CD changer mode to that station.

Switching PTY on/off

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“PTY ON” or “PTY OFF” appears inthe display B.

➮ Press or > to switch thisfunction either on or off.

➮ Once you have made the desiredsetting, press MENU ?.

Selecting the programme type andstarting seek tuning

➮ Press or >.

The currently selected programme typewill appear in the display B.

➮ If you would like to select a diffe-rent programme type, press or > while the programme type is ondisplay to switch to anotherprogramme type.

The new programme type will appearbriefly in the display.

➮ Press or > to start seek tun-ing.

The next radio station broadcasting theprogramme selected will begin to play.

Note:If the radio is not able to find a stationbroadcasting the program type selected,you will hear a beep and “NO PTY” will

appear briefly in the display B. The sta-tion selected previously will then resumeplay.

Selecting the PTY languageIt is possible to select the language inwhich the program type is displayed.

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“PTY LANG” appears in the displayB.

➮ Press or > to select fromamong German, English andFrench.

➮ When the language you wish toactivate appears in the display B,press MENU ?.

Special PTY alarm functionAs soon as a radio station broadcastsprogram 31, the radio will tune into thisstation. “ALARM” will appear in the dis-play B. Program type 31 is reservedfor disaster warnings.

Interference-related treble cut(HICUT)The HICUT function improves receptionwhen reception begins to deteriorate. Ifinterference occurs, then the treble andthe noise is cut automatically.

Switching HICUT on/off

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“HICUT” appears in the display B.

➮ Press or > to switch HICUTon or off.

“HICUT 0” indicates that the function isswitched off; “HICUT 1” means that thetreble will be automatically cut as far aspossible.

➮ Press MENU ?.

Note:The HICUT function is available for FMradio operation only.

Selecting the display of variabletextA number of radio stations use the RDSsignal to transmit advertising or othertexts in place of their station names.These “variable texts” will appear in thedisplay B. It is possible to adjust yourradio so that these “variable texts” donot appear.

➮ Press and hold down RDS 5 until“NAME FIX” appears in the displayB.

➮ To have the “variable texts” dis-played again, press and hold downRDS 5 until “NAME VAR”appears in the display B.

Tuner switchoverThe car audio system has beenequipped with a multiband tuner. Thetuner can be adjusted to accommodatedifferent requirements in different coun-tries. The regions that can be selectedare Europe and America. The tuner willnot be completely functional until it hasbeen adjusted to the country in which itis being operated.

Switching over the tuner

➮ Select the FM waveband.

➮ Switch off the car radio.

➮ Press and hold buttons 1 and 3 @and switch the radio back on again.

“SERVICE” and the frequency wave-band will then appear in the display B.

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press > repeatedly until “FMTUNER” appears in the display B.

➮ Press > to select the “EU-ROPE” or “AMERICA”.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU < twice.

➮ To end the tuner switchover, switchthe radio off and then on again.

Traffic information

Switching traffic informationpriority on/off➮ Press TRAFFIC A.

Traffic information priority is activatedwhen “TA” lights up in the display B.

Note:You will hear a warning beep

• if you are listening to a radio trafficstation or a cassette, leave thereception area of the trafficinformation station you are tunedinto and the automatic seek tuningfunction is unable to find anothertraffic information station.

• if you switch from a traffic informa-tion station to a station which doesnot broadcast traffic information.

Then either switch off traffic informationpriority or switch to a different traffic in-formation station.

Adjusting the volume for trafficannouncements

➮ Press MENU ?.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“TAVOLUME” appears in the dis-play B.

➮ Press > to adjust the trafficannouncement volume.

➮ Once you have adjusted the set-ting, press MENU ? twice.

Cassette mode

Cassette playbackIf there is no cassette in the unit yet

➮ push the cassette into the cassettecompartment 8 with the openside pointing right.

The cassette begins to play the side thatwas last played.

If there is already a cassette in the unit,

➮ press the SRC button < repeat-edly until “CASSETTE” appears onthe display B.

The cassette is played in the last setdirection “TRACK1” or “TRACK2”.

Changing the playing side➮ Press the buttons FR 9 and FF: simultaneously.

This changes the direction of play. Whenthe cassette reaches the end of oneside, it automatically switches to theother (Autoreverse).

Fast forward/rewind

Fast forward

➮ Press the FF button : (fast for-ward) until it latches.

“FORWARD” appears on the displayB.

Fast rewind

➮ Press the FR button 9 (fast re-wind) until it latches.

“REWIND” appears on the display B.

Stopping fast forward/rewind

➮ Press the fast button for the oppo-site direction.

Playback is resumed.

Note:During fast forward/rewind, the radiostation last listened to is heard.

Ejecting a cassette➮ Press the button 7 to remove

the cassette from the unit.

Traffic announcements incassette modeWith the “TRAFFIC” function (priority fortraffic information), your car radio is onstandby for traffic announcements evenwhen a cassette is being played. Whena traffic announcement begins, play-back stops and the trafficannouncement is made. For furtherinformation, please see the chapter“Traffic information”.

CD CHANGER OPERATION

CD Changer Operation(option)The CD changer CDC A08 T (24 V) canbe plugged in at the ISO connector(chamber C3).

Warning!If you wish to hook up the CD changerIDC A09 (12 V) to your car radio, youmust first disconnect the 24 V electricitysupply by unplugging the connector inthe connector cable of the CD changer.The CD changer requires a separate12 V power supply (see CD changermanual, Fig. 1).

Note:For information on how to handle CDs,how to insert CDs in the equipment andhow to operate the CD changer, pleaserefer to the CD changer operatingmanual.

Starting CD changer operation➮ Press SRC < repeatedly until

“CHANGER” appears in the displayB.

Playback will begin with the first CD thechanger detects in the magazine.

Selecting CDs➮ To select a CD up or down in the

magazine, press or > the re-quired number of times.

Selecting tracks➮ To select a different track on the

CD currently playing, press or > the required number of times.

Audible fast forward/reverse(CUE/REVIEW)To start Cue or Review,

➮ press and hold down either or > until the process begins.

Quick track selectionTo select a next or previous track quickly,

➮ press down and hold / >until fast forward or reverse begins.

Switching the display modeTo switch the display between the CDnumber and playing time,

➮ press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display B.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“CDC DISP” appears in the displayB.

➮ Press >.

The current setting will appear, “TIME”for the playing time and “CD NO” for theCD number.

➮ Use > to select the desiredsetting.

➮ Press MENU ? twice.

Repeating individual tracks orentire CDs (REPEAT)➮ To repeat the track currently play-

ing, press 3 (RPT) @ briefly.

“RPT TRCK” will appear briefly in thedisplay B, “RPT” will light up in the dis-play B.

“RPT DISC” will appear briefly in thedisplay B, RPT will light up in the dis-play B.

Stopping the REPEAT function

➮ To stop the REPEAT function forthe current track or CD, press 3(RPT) @ repeatedly until “RPTOFF” appears in the display Band RPT no longer lights up.

Playing tracks in random order(MIX)➮ To play the tracks of the currently

selected CD in random order,press 4 (MIX) @ briefly.

“MIX-CD” will appear briefly in the dis-play B, MIX will light up in the displayB.

➮ To play the tracks of all of the CDsin random order, press 4 (MIX) @again.

“MIX ALL” will appear briefly in the dis-play B, MIX will light up in the displayB.

Stopping the MIX function

➮ To stop the MIX function, press 4(MIX) @ repeatedly until “MIXOFF” appears in the display Band MIX no longer lights up.

Scanning all of the tracks on allof the CDs (SCAN)➮ To scan all of the tracks on all of

the CDs in ascending order, press5 (SCAN) @.

“SCAN” will appear in the display B.

Stopping the SCAN function

➮ To stop the SCAN function, press 5(SCAN) @ briefly again.

The track currently scanned will con-tinue playing.

Note:It is possible to adjust the scan time.

Adjusting the scan time

➮ Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display B.

➮ Press or > repeatedly until“SCANTIME” appears in the dis-play B.

➮ Press > to set the scan timeas desired.

➮ Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU ? twice.

Note:The scan time selected applies to boththe CD player and the CD changer.

Interrupting playback (PAUSE)➮ Press 2 ( ) @.

“PAUSE” will appear in the display B.

Stopping PAUSE

➮ Press 2 ( ) @ during the pause.

Playback will resume.

TANDEM OUTPUT

Tandem outputThe unit is equipped with a tandemoutput (Section C1) to enable you toconnect the Coach Control AmplifierCCA 41. If the tandem output isactivated, the audio signal from the radioand cassette is sent to the control unit(CCA 41) at a fixed level.

This allows you to set a different audiosource output for the cabin and cockpitareas.

In order to use the tandem output, youmust first activate it in the menu.

Note:In tandem mode: if the passengers anddriver are listening to a cassette, andthe driver then decides to switch, forinstance, to radio mode, the passengerswill continue hearing cassette playbackregardless.

Activating / deactivatingthe tandem output➮ Press the MENU button ?.

➮ Repeatedly press the button >until “TAND OFF” or “TAND ON”appears in the display B.

➮ Press the or button > toactivate / deactivate the tandemoutput

➮ Once you have finished makingchanges to the settings, press theMENU button ?.
