Descriptions in the User Guide

In the User Guide, most operation descriptions are based onhandset at time of purchase.Unless noted otherwise, descriptions are for Home Screen.Some operation descriptions may be simplified.

Screenshots & Key Labels

Screenshots in the User Guide may differ in appearance withactual Display. Key labels in the User Guide are simplified fordescription purposes and differ with actual Display.

Other Notations

BLADE Q+

USIM Card

USIM Card is an IC card containing phone number and othercustomer information.

Handling USIM Card

・Customer is responsible for any damage caused by insertingUSIM Card in an other-brand IC card reader, etc. SoftBankMobile Corp. is not responsible in such case.

・Always keep the IC chip clean.・Wipe clean with a dry, soft cloth.・Avoid applying labels. May damage USIM Card.・See instructions included with USIM Card for handling.・USIM Card is the property of SoftBank Mobile Crop.・USIM is replaceable (at cost) in case of loss/damage.・Return USIM Card to SoftBank Mobile Corp. when canceling

subscription.・Returned USIM Cards are recycled for environmental

purposes.・Note that USIM Card specifications and performance may

change without notice.・It is recommended that you keep a separate copy of

information that is stored on USIM Card. SoftBankMobile Corp. is not responsible for damages from storedinformation that is lost.

・Always follow emergency procedures to suspend service ifyour USIM Card or handset (USIM Card inserted) is lost/stolen. For details, contact Customer Service.

・Always power off handset before inserting/removing USIMCard.

Remove Battery Cover

・Lift the recess up to make a gap between Battery Cover andhandset. Remove Back Cover little by little along the edge.

・Be careful not to hurt fingernails.

Slowly insert USIM Card straight with metal chip facing downuntil it clicks

Attach Battery Cover

・Press Battery Cover firmly until it clicks so as not to makeany gaps between Battery Cover and handset.

Removing USIM Card

Always power off beforehand.

Remove Battery Cover

・Lift the recess up to make a gap between Battery Cover andhandset. Remove Back Cover little by little along the edge.

・Be careful not to hurt fingernails.

Push USIM Card until it clicks. When USIM Card pops out,slowly pull it out

Attach Battery Cover

・Press Battery Cover firmly until it clicks so as not to makeany gaps between Battery Cover and handset.

Internal Memory and SD Card

Save data to handset memory or SD Card.Handset supports SD Cards up to 32GB. Some SD Cards maynot operate properly.

SD Card Cautions

Data

Information stored on SD Card can become lost or changedaccidentally or as a result of damage. It is recommendedthat you keep a separate copy of important data. SoftBankMobile Corp. is not responsible for damages from data thatis lost or changed.

Reading/Writing Data

Never power off while reading or writing data.

Battery Level

A low battery charge may prevent reading/writing to SDCard.

Handling SD Card

Use/store SD Cards away from the reach of infants. Maycause choking if swallowed.

Inserting SD Card

Always power off beforehand.

Remove Battery Cover

・Lift the recess up to make a gap between Battery Cover andhandset. Remove Back Cover little by little along the edge.

・Be careful not to hurt fingernails.

Insert SD Card gently with terminals facing down.

・Insert only SD Cards.

・Press Battery Cover firmly until it clicks so as not to makeany gaps between Battery Cover and handset.

Formatting SD Card

When using a new SD Card for the first time, always format iton handset.

・Formatting erases all data on SD Card. Carefully check anySD Card that was used on another device before formatting.

・Charge Battery while formatting, or format with adequatebattery charge.

Charging Battery

Charging with AC Charger

AC Charger is an optional accessory. Use specified AC Charger (Micro USB 1.0A) (ZTDAC1) or AC Charger (Micro USB 1.8A) (ZTDAD1).For other devices, see the SoftBank Mobile Web page.

Insert Micro USB plug of AC Charger into External Device Port

Raise power plug and plug AC Charger into household poweroutlet

Notification Lamp lights when charging starts.

When charging is complete, unplug AC Charger and removeMicro USB plug

Charging by PC

Micro USB Cable is an optional accessory. Use specified MicroUSB Cable (ZEDAD1).For other devices, see the SoftBank Mobile Web page.

・Always turn on PC beforehand.・Battery may not charge depending on type of connection to

PC.

Contact Display lightly, then brush screen up/down or left/right.

Initial Settings

Startup guidance appears the first time handset is poweredon. Set up Google™ account, Wi-Fi, etc. Follow onscreeninstructions.

Making Initial Settings

Some steps are different in use environment.By default, initial settings in Japanese appear. Skip every stepand then switch handset language to make the initial settingsin English.

Basic Operation

Home Screen & Applications List

Most handset operations start in Home Screen (appears atpower on) or in applications list.

Selecting Options and NavigatingScreens

Tap items, icons, onscreen keys, etc. to open assigned items.

・Tap to go back to previous screen.

Menu Operations

Tap for available settings and items. Screens mayalso have settings and items that are available by Touching &Holding Display.

Handset Settings and Making Settings

In Home Screen, Tap then Tap (Settings) to customizethe operation of handset functions.

Portrait Orientation & LandscapeOrientation

The screen changes to portrait orientation when handset isrotated sideways.

・Depending on the current screen, the orientation may notchange even by changing handset orientation.

Silent Mode

Using Silent Mode

Set ringtone, operation sounds, etc. not to sound to avoiddisturbing others around you.

・Camera shutter, video start/stop tones, etc. sound even inSilent mode.

Power Key (Long Press)

Handset is in Silent mode.

・Long Press Volume Down Key to set vibrator, and PressVolume Down Key to mute sound while vibrator is set.

Airplane Mode

Disable all functions that emit signals. Handset remainspowered on.

Keyboard Layout

Use software keyboard for text entry.Text entry with Android Keyboard is described here.

Enter character.

Switch to lower case.

Switch to number/symbol keyboard.

Use voice input. Touch & Hold to show Input optionsmenu.

Delete character before cursor.

Enter a line feed. Touch & Hold to open list ofpictograms and emoticons.

Enter period. Touch & Hold to open symbol list.

Enter a space. Touch & Hold to change input method.

Making Text Entry Settings

Set operations for text entry. Main setting items are asfollows.

Placing/Answering Calls

How to dial directly to make a call and answer a call, as wellas options when a call is arriving/during a call are described.

Emergency Call Location Information

If handset is used to place a call (3G) to emergencynumbers such as 110, 119, or 118, your location isautomatically reported to the emergency organization suchas Police. Location report is calculated from positioninginformation provided by call accepted base station.・This service requires no application or communication fee.・The emergency organization may not be able to determine

your precise location due to where the call was madeor signal conditions. Be sure to give your location andpurpose of the call to the emergency organization.

・Location cannot be reported if you dial with caller IDhidden, for example, using "184" prefix. However, theemergency organization may obtain your location in alife-threatening, etc. crisis.

・While using international roaming, Location report isdisabled.

Q. Handset freezes/operation is unstable

A. Power on handset again. If powering off is unavailable,Long Press Power Key for at least ten seconds. Datathat was being edited is erased after handset ispowered on again.

Q. Operation is unstable after a new application wasinstalled

A. The newly installed application may be the cause.Uninstall the application in Safe mode. See"Uninstalling Applications." To power on handset inSafe mode:

This section is based on "Guidelines on Safeguarding MedicalEquipment from Electromagnetic Waves from Mobile Phonesand Other Devices" (Electromagnetic Compatibility Conference,August 2014) and "Guidelines for Prevention of Effects ofRadio Waves from Various Equipment Using Radio Waves onImplantable Medical Equipment" (Ministry of Internal Affairsand Communications).

Keep handset a minimum of 15 centimetersfrom implanted cardiac pacemaker or implanteddefibrillator.

Radio waves may interfere with the operation of implantedcardiac pacemakers or implanted defibrillators.

When using electronic medical equipment (other than implanted cardiac pacemakers/defibrillators) outside of medical institutions,consult device manufacturer about theinfluence of radio waves.

Radio waves may interfere with the operation of electronicmedical equipment.

Handset radio waves may affect electronicmedical equipment. Observe these guidelines inmedical institutions:

・Observe the instructions of individual medicalinstitutions and do not use or bring handset intoprohibited areas.・Do not bring handset into an operating room, ICU (Intensive Care Unit) or CCU (Coronary Care Unit).・Ensure distance from handset even in lobbies or areaswhere use is permitted if there is electronic medicalequipment nearby.

There may be someone who is wearing animplanted pacemaker or defibrillator. Disablehandset transmissions (e.g. airplane mode) orpower off handset when it is difficult to keepa distance of at least 15 cm away from otherssuch as in a crowd.

Usage Basics

・Handset employs radio waves. Signals may be disrupted evenwithin service areas if you are indoors, underground, insidea tunnel or inside a vehicle. If you move to a location withpoor signal strength, a call or Digital TV viewing may besuddenly cut off.

・When using handset in public places, take care not to annoyother people around you. Use of handset is prohibited insome public places such as in theaters or on buses andtrains.

・Handset is a wireless station under Japanese Radio Law.You may be requested to submit your handset for inspectionbased on this law.

・Use of handset near a landline phone, TV or radio mayaffect the image and sound quality of the equipment.

・Handset employs a digital system to maintain a high levelof communication quality even at very low signal levels.However, calls may be suddenly cut off when the signalstrength becomes too weak.

・The digital system provides a high level of privacyprotection. However, the possibility of someoneeavesdropping on your conversation cannot be ruled out aslong as radio waves are used.

・Data stored on handset may be corrupted or lost on thefollowing occasions:・Handset is used improperly.・Handset is exposed to static electricity or electric noise.・Handset is turned off during operation.・Battery is completely discharged.・Handset malfunctions or is sent for repairs.SoftBank Mobile Corp. accepts no liability whatsoever forthe corruption or loss of stored data. Be sure to keep aseparate memo of important data to limit damage caused bydata corruption or loss to a minimum.

・Be sure to charge battery before using handset for the firsttime or if handset has not been used for a long time. Wheninternal battery is stored for a long time, it discharges overtime even if it is not used.

・When handset is used for extended periods of time,especially in high temperature conditions, handset surfacecould become hot. Please use caution when touching handsetunder such conditions.

・Prolonged use or repeatedly flashing Display or other lightmay adversely affect the body. If you feel discomfort orpain, immediately discontinue use and consult a doctor.

・If taken out of Japan, some items may requiredocumentation certifying export is not controlled,prohibited, or restricted by Export Trade Control Order orForeign Exchange Order. Basically, no such documentationis required to take handset out of Japan and bring it backfor personal use on vacations or short business trips. Insome cases, however, export permit may be required ifhandset is to be used by or transferred to another party. ・If you choose to set one, do not forget Screen UnlockPassword. If you do forget it, take handset to SoftBankShop to reset it. This will erase all handset information andsettings.

Inside Cars

・Do not use handset while driving. Use of handset whiledriving is prohibited by law.Using Headset with Mic while driving may be subject topenalties in some prefectures.

・Before using handset, stop the vehicle in a safe area whereparking or stopping is permitted.

・While driving, place handset in a safe place away fromairbag compartments. Handset may cause airbag to deploy,resulting in injury.

・When removing Battery Cover, do not touch gold portion ofUSIM Card Slot or Antenna. Doing so may cause handset tomalfunction due to static electricity.

・Handset Display pixels may be missing or remain lit. This isnot a defect or malfunction. If Display is left on for a longperiod of time, pictures may be permanently burned into it.

・Make sure a commercially available headset with microphoneis securely plugged into Audio Jack. Failing to do so maygenerate noise on the other party’s phone during calls.

・Do not turn the volume up too high while using acommercially available headset with microphone. Exposure tohigh sound levels may impair hearing and prolonged use maycause hearing damage regardless of the volume level. Soundleakage may annoy other people and surrounding sounds maynot be heard clearly when walking, resulting in an accident.

・Grasp plug to remove a commercially available Headset withMic. Pulling cable may cause damage or malfunction.

・Handset features an Internal Antenna. Touching/coveringInternal Antenna area may affect signal sensitivity. Donot cover area with stickers, etc. May hinder handsettransmissions.

・When you replace handset or send it for repair, messagesand other data stored in handset cannot be transferred toanother handset.

・Do not allow USIM Card to get wet or leave it in places ofhigh humidity. May cause malfunction.

・Do not drop USIM Card or subject it to excessive shock. Maycause malfunction.

・Do not bend USIM Card or place a heavy object on it. Maycause malfunction.

・Do not use or leave USIM Card in hot places such as near afire or heater. May cause malfunction.

Urgent News (Application)

・ Urgent News Incoming Setting is enabled by default.

・An alert tone sounds when an alert is received, even inSilent mode.

・Alerts are not received during calls/transmissions or in poorsignal conditions.

・Depending on usage/situation, handset may receive alertsfor other areas or no alerts.
