The calendar is certainly filling up with events both within our own school and in the wider community. Activities that promote academia, health and wellbeing and community involvement are all present on this term’s calendar. Mrs Davis, Mrs Bell, Mrs MacKenzie and myself joined other staff members from our small schools net- work on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd July to engage in professional learning workshops. It was inspiring to listen to Mr Bruce Sullivan speak on how we should confront each day, as being the best version of ourselves, that we can be. He likened it to thinking of everyday as a job interview— be positive, be kind and wear your ‘happy pants’. He spoke to us of his dream to get a few kind thoughts for his daughter’s 18th birthday and was surprised when over 15,000 cards arrived in his mailbox. If this can be done for a stranger, imagine the impact we can make on the people around us everyday by simply being kind and helpful. Last week, students started their 2018 journey in the Premiers Sporting Challenge. Students are en- thusiastically recording the amount of physical activity they undertake throughout the course of a day. Next week, we start Fresh for kids. An initiative to promote healthy eating in our kids. For every serving size of fruit consumed, students will receive a sticker that can be traded for collectable items. This program will run until the end of term and will link nicely with our ‘Crunch and Sip’ program we started at the beginning of the year. We have also registered to participate in the MS read-a-thon this term. More details will be sent home next week, but please start recording the books read at home and asking people if they would be interested in sponsoring you for this great cause. Next week we have school photos on Monday 6th August. Don’t forget to bring in your envelopes so we know what packages you would like. Full winter uniform is to be worn with the students regular smiles. I can’t wait to see how they turn out this year! On Tuesday, we look forward to liaising with our local CWA and participating in this years celebration of Po- land. This cultural experience, through an informative presentation and a meal lovingly cooked by the local CWA, is an anticipated event on the Blackville Public School Calendar and has been for many years now.
