Friendship and Companionship are two things that our hearts desire. These two words have been debat-ed over time. Some would say that they both have the same meaning, while others would suggest that they are completely different. No matter what your take is on these two words, it would be safe to say that we all have experienced problems with one or both. Through the course of life many people come into our lives; some are seasonal while others prove to be life long in their loyalty. Nevertheless everyone who comes into our lives makes some kind of impression and leaves some type of mark. We often question if those we label as friend are actually living up to the meaning of the word. Through the difficulties of con-flict and the uncertainties of situations, we press to-wards a better understanding of the happenings of life.
Friendship is a personal relationship shared be-tween people for the welfare or well being of each other. Its a relationship of trust and concern for each others feelings and general well being.. It is a rela-tionship of mutual caring and intimacy among one another. A friend is one who knows you as a person and regards you for who you are. Friendship involves feelings of comfort and emotional safety with a per-son. True friendship is perhaps the only relation that survives the trials and tribulations of time and re-mains unconditional.
Companionship is a closeness or true fellowship among people who for some reason have connect-ed. It is the word that comes to mind when you hear the words life-long partners. Companion-ship involves connecting with someone on more than just a physical level; it involves connecting with someone on a spiritual, emotional and men-tal level. Companionship extends beyond like and penetrates the realm of being in love.
As we experience the world of dating, so often we become discouraged when we can’t seem to find what will satisfy our hearts desire. Many times we feel as though we have exhausted the possibility of finding true love. So often we settle for less than we deserve, all because we don’t think that we will ever find our hearts counter point in an-other. As we continuously fall victim to less than we deserve, feelings of never discovering the glory of one saved for us become inevitable.
Many relationships end with both parties dislik-ing one another. Through the hurt and pain of disappointment, we constantly put forth our best efforts to make the next time the right time. So often we never examine how we go about choos-ing someone to date. Our approach to dating seems to be more trial and error than prayer and purposeful. One could argue that dating has to be trial and error because you’re taking a chance on someone you don’t know. I would argue that con-tinuous chances on perfect strangers will most likely lead to unforeseen circumstances and un-fulfilled expectations.
Men and women are guilty of complaining to much about the opposite sex. The problem gener-ally lies with us, but we‘re so focused on what we don‘t have that we ignore why we don‘t have it. Our selection process lacks Prayer, Purpose and Privacy. We have to be prayerful about who we potentially allow into our lives. There also needs to be a purpose being fulfilled for people to come together and connect on a higher level. Our deci-sion to allow someone into our lives needs to be free from outside influence. So often others want us with who they think we need and not who our hearts truly desire. All of us know good women and good men, but the question is this; have we ever thought about dating them? So often we al-low fear to consume our lives and cloud our thinking. The best relationships come out of

friendship. So often we have a friend of the opposite sex who possesses the qualities that we desire in a life long companion. Many times this individual makes us feel special and loved by the small things that they do. They make us smile by simply say-ing exactly what we needed to hear in the moment. We generally enjoy being around this person. They know how to brighten our day with an encouraging word. They are always their to listen; and they know when to just let us vent and when to give a word of advise. They even know our love language without us telling them what it is; it seems to be their native tongue as well. In our hearts we know this person would never betray our trust or harm us in any way. We know them to be a great person, but we don’t think we deserve their affec-tion. Those that we know are our friends make it no secret that they love us. Love is the fabric of relationships, but happiness is the hem that holds the fabric together. There is always a friend of the opposite sex who truly makes us happy by simply being there. We even find them attractive, but fear causes us not to admit that we’re also attracted to them. Sometimes the one that we have been waiting for has been in our lives afraid to admit to us the very thing that we’re afraid to admit to them!
Our fear in this regard comes from this question; What if I lose my friend? A true friend is there in all the seasons of your life, not just the ones where it’s conven-ient. Friends can tell each other anything because true friends respect each others emotions and feelings. Your companion should end up being your best friend be-cause this is the one who you will spend your life with! Anyone in your life fit this mold? Pray without ceasing and know this; some things come only through fasting and prayer. No one can be your companion for life unless they are first your friend! Speak now or forever hold your peace!
Grace and Peace

"Kenny G is truly an artist whose sound is perfectly matched for the keen acoustics of DPAC," said Bob Klaus GM of DPAC. "The holidays are always special at DPAC and we think this new addition to our December line-up will be a real treat."
Kenneth Gorelick, better known by his stage name Kenny G, is an American saxophonist whose fourth album, Duo-tones, brought him breakthrough success in 1986. Kenny's main instrument is the soprano saxophone, but he also plays the alto and tenor saxophone and the flute on occasion.
A phenomenally successful instrumentalist whose recordings make the pop charts, Kenny G's sound has been a staple on adult contemporary and smooth jazz radio stations since the mid-'80s, making him a household name. Kenny G is a fine player with an attractive sound (influenced a bit by Grover Washington, Jr.) who often caresses melodies, put-ting a lot of emotion into his solos. Because he does not improvise much (sticking mostly to predictable melody state-ments), his music largely falls outside of jazz. However, because he is listed at the top of "contemporary jazz" charts and is identified with jazz in the minds of the mass public, he is classified as jazz. Kenny G is the biggest-selling in-strumental musician of the modern era, with global sales totaling more than 75 million albums. In 1994, Kenny G won the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for "Forever in Love" He has established the Kenny G Miracles Foundation to raise money for music charities. His holiday concert promises to be another unforgettable evening that DPAC is famous for. For further information please go to www.kennyg.com.
DPAC's upcoming lineup includes Maze featuring Frankie Beverly (Aug 19). For more information about these and all DPAC shows please visit www.dpacnc.com.
