Any area design is created in its own specific context. The site and its
surroundings are one part of this, but community and socio-cultural
conditions also play an important role. In developing a design solu-
tion, an intensive engagement with the site, its surroundings, its histo-
ry and its users are all critical steps within the design process.
O R G A N I Z AT I O N O F S PAC E
In open-space planning, the focus is on the creation of spaces. To
design using plants is to organize. It is only with the formation of
intelligible spatial and surface structures that the intention of the
designer can be understood, and the functions of open spaces be
conveyed.
S I T E S E N S I T I V I T Y
Respect for the site and its resources are an inherent part of the BKV
philosophy. Every site is influenced by macro and microclimate con-
ditions such as Temp, Soil, pH, Situation, Light, Water, Nutrients and,
ultimately, Man. Understanding and identifying these influences early
within the design process is always one of our first goals.
C L I M A T E F O R C R E A T I V I T Y
In order to create a good plan, the different appearances - size, form,
color, and texture - are combined to form an inner coherence.
Knowledge of universally applicable design principles, such as contrast
and balance, repetition, rhythm and order, etc. give us the tools to
make our ideas energetic and creative.
