Objective

Recognise bizSAFE members for their commitment and dedication in advocating and raising Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) practices and standards.

The bizSAFE Awards will be presented at the annual bizSAFE Convention in first quarter of 2018. The Convention is organised by the WSH Council, supported by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

The bizSAFE Enterprise/Partner must have fulfilled ALL of the following between 14 June 2016 and 13 June 2017 (qualifying period):

Qualifying Criteria for ALL Award Categories

No blacklist record, not pending investigation, no conviction or prosecution in court by MOM;

No Stop Work Order;

Not on Business Under Surveillance (BUS) programme;

Did not have any accident (including occupational disease) that has caused death or permanent disablement, occupational disease and Dangerous Occurrence.

Enterprise Progressive Award

Recognises bizSAFE Small-and-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) ⃰ for being dedicated to the bizSAFE programme by:

Progressing from bizSAFE Level 1 to Level 3 during the qualifying period between 14 June 2016 to 13 June 2017

*SME definition :

Partner Award

Recognises bizSAFE Partners for being proactive and committed in the bizSAFE programme by:

• Outreaching Direct/Indirect Enterprises+

• Incorporating safety as part of their business model

+ Enterprises: Recognised as Direct or Indirect Contractors/ Vendors/ Suppliers of the bizSAFE Partner which include any person engaged by them under a contract of service:

(a) to supply any labour for gain or reward; (b) to do any work for gain or reward, in connection with any trade, business, profession

or undertaking carried on by the principal; or(c) engaged by Direct Contractors/Vendors/Suppliers to do any work for gain or reward.

– Upstream Risk Controls: Following the Hierarchy of Control: Elimination > Substitution > Engineering Controls > Admin Controls > PPE

Qualitative Assessment

• Applicants should organise their write-ups for the respective sections

• All images should be printed in colour. Do not provide grainy photocopied versions.

• Illustrations/Evidence should be labelled accordingly and accurately in the write-up for ease of reference.

• Write-ups must be printed and included in the thumb drive.

• Please adhere to the word limit within 250 words

• Shortlisted applicants will be required to make a 15-minutes presentation on their submission, at the WSH Council Office

• The presentation would focus on the qualitative aspects:

To recognise bizSAFE STAR exemplars in Risk Management and WSH performance.

Enterprises that have won this award for 3 consecutive years will be honored with a Gold Award.

Application Criteria

• The organisation must be bizSAFE Level STAR recognised

• The organisation must have completed Self Scoring before engaging an Assessor for the bizSAFE Exemplary Award

• The organisation have to ascertain if it has obtained sufficient score (from Assessor’s conclusion) to apply for the Award

• Applicants must have implemented Risk Management (RM) 2.0 comprising ‘Holistic RM, Pragmatic RM and Upstream Risk Controls’ at their workplace.

• The organisation is not a WSH Service Provider

• The organisation must nominate a full-time employee for the bizSAFE Champion Award

Holistic RM - Human and Cultural Factors- Are individual, job, organisational and environmental factors which can affect safety and

health, considered in your WSH risk management?- Show that safety critical tasks are addressed first followed by tasks with lower risks.

Please illustrate how these factors are of relevance to work activities.

Pragmatic RM- How does your organization ensure that adequate and appropriate risk controls are

implemented on ground?- How does your organisation ensure that employees understand the hazards involved and

the control measures to be taken to minimise the risk?

Upstream Risk Controls- How has your organisation implemented upstream risk controls (via avoidance,

elimination, substitution and engineering control) in your work activities?- Show successful cases of upstream risk controls which significantly reduce the risk. Such

controls should not be measures stipulated in the WSH Act’s subsidiary legislation.
