Fellow Rotarians: Rotary Clubs in Pakistan need our help in
responding to devastating flood conditions and we are in a unique
position to offer substantial assistance. Our goal is to raise
$25,000 which The Rotary Foundation (TRF) has committed to match
providing our partner clubs in Pakistan with $ 50,000 in assistance
through a special Rotary Pakistan Flooding Recovery Fund. Donating
through TRF has distinct advantages: 1. TRFs Matching Grants
program management processes ensure accountability and transparency
of funds with 100% of funds going to beneficiaries, 2. Funds go to
projects submitted by fellow Rotary Clubs in Pakistan who are on
the ground and understand the needs ensuring accountability for
results, and 3. Our donations are doubled through the matching
grants program. Some of your Fellow Club Members have responded
quickly and committed to individual donations totaling over $7,000.
The Club Board of Directors has designated $5,000 from the Disaster
Relief Fund and encouraged the Rotary Foundation of Washington DC
to match that amount with another $5,000 placing us well on our way
to the $25,000 goal (TRF matching provides a total of $50,000).
Additionally, members of the Pakistan community and other concerned
citizens in the Washington DC area have approached us to ask if
their funds can be matched by TRF (they can).

Understanding Where the Funds Will Go More than 20 million
people have been affected by the devastating flood conditions in
Pakistan. While the death toll fortunately is not high as yet, the
loss of property and food production is immense. More than one
million people are still stranded in the open and vulnerable to
disease and hunger; and there is fear that the casualties are going
to be high as the flood waters move south and many more villages
are washed away.
Rotarians have risen to the occasion and are participating in
rescue and relief operations throughout the country. The Disaster
Action Group has sent Shelter Boxes which have been placed in
position and food and health needs are being addressed. Everyday,
truck loads of ration packets are being sent to villages overcome
by the flood waters. A Rotary Example. Rotary Past District
Governor M. Saeed Shamsi (RI District 3270 Pakistan &
Afghanistan) and a member of the Rotary Club of Lahore Sharqi
(East) says that after the first responders work is over, the real
help will be needed to rebuild villages and the means of food
production and reviving of local economies to sustain life. His
Club is working with local government officials to build Rotary
Villages, innovative low cost housing using a cluster of houses
concept and relying on significant local labor including the labor
of the ultimate owners of these houses. The Rotary Club of Lahore
will be able to submit this project to TRF for funding through the
Rotary Pakistan Flooding Recovery Fund. Our Club, through TRF, will
partner with Clubs like Lahore to provide much needed assistance.
What We Are Doing The Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of
Washington DC has authorized a fund raising campaign to encourage
individual Club members, and non-members, to donate funds to the
Rotary Pakistan Flooding Recovery Fund. Please donate if you can.
Make checks payable to The Rotary Foundation and in the memo line
indicate Rotary Pakistan Flooding Recovery Fund. Send checks to the
Rotary Club of Washington DC., 1101, 16th Street, 1C Level NW,
Washington, DC. 20036. We will consolidate these contributions and
ensure that they are designated for matching funds. Donations to
TRF, a charitable foundation, are normally tax deductible (see your
tax advisor for definitive advice). Thank you for your humanitarian
efforts, and setting an example of being a Rotarian in word, action
and deed. A copy of this letter with pictures is attached should
you want to distribute it to friends and associates. Donald Marx,

62nd Charter Anniversary Dinner Saturday, October 9, 2010
September 2010
Dear Fellow and Sister Rotarians:
It is the time of year to celebrate our anniversary. The 62nd
Charter Anniversary Committee is currently working hard to make
this event enjoyable and meaningful. Rotarian Cager will be our MC,
although he may sound more like a DJ. PE ROADRUNNER is going to
surprise you with a wonderful entertainment. Artist Rotarian SEAN
will take photographs again, as he did for our Charity Night 2010.
Rotarian ELIZABETH negotiated hard with Rotarian ACHIMs staff to
get good quality meals and venue at a reasonable price. She is also
organizing a sight-seeing tour for the overseas visitors. DDS/PP
BIO will again scratch his head on the seating arrangement. Doris
and Lindsey will panic during the registration process. IPP AMPO,
Rotarian STEVEN, Rotarian SEAN and Rotarian PHILIP will produce a
unique program book with your advertisements. Rotarian JILL,
Rotarian EQUUS and Rotaractors will welcome the guests and ensure
that they are all comfortable throughout the event. VP DownUnder
will ensure that all of you will bring home a gift from the
President. HS JOANN will ensure that the 200 seats are fully
booked. Rotarian JACK is organizing a 2-day Golf Event. VIPs from
District 3480, including DG John will be coming. Our Baby Clubs and
friendly Clubs will send their representatives. Our Sister Club,
the Rotary Club of Taipo will bring 16 people this year. We also
will have visitors from the Rotary Club of Macau. Let us show them
that the Rotary Club of Taipei is a very friendly Club and welcome
them warmly. (Yes, you may hug them)

invite your friends and family members to celebrate this happy
evening together.
We do need your advertisement sponsorship for our program book.
If you are willing to help, please contact Rotarian PHILIP or IPP
AMPO on this.
If you have any suggestion on how this event should be
organized, please contact me. I am looking forward to making

RESOLUTIONS Today I shall Re-examine my values with the
realization that materiasl success alone never produces happiness.
Assiduously avoid talking about other peoples faults, and instead
try to find my own, so that I can improve upon them.
RESOLUTIONS Today I shall Try to achieve true freedom, which
means doing what I know is the best thing to do, instead of what I
feel like doing. Try to do a personal inventory, to seek out where
I might have some faults that I identify in others, and make an
effort to correct them.
