mental health. Our other varied events in the summer,
including the Brentwood Festival and the
Commonwealth Games Are Go, have formed a major
part of our commitment to offer something for everyone.
Our plans going forward are equally ambitious. We
are currently working closely with Brentwood Borough
Council with a view to refurbishment of the Brentwood
Centre. This will include key areas such as changing
rooms and the floor and seating in the main hall as well
as energy generation.

ON HER WAYBrentwood Leisure Trust is proud to be sponsoring 16 year old Evie Clarke as she shows the footballing world what girls are made of.
Evie from St Martin’s school in Brentwood, has been playing football with her twin brother Archie and older brother William since she was 7 years old. Her mum Sarah, realised she had potential and took her along to play for Hutton Football Club where she trained under the interested watch of the Essex FA.
Aged only 8, Evie was selected to play in Colchester at the Centre of Excellence for football, gaining great support from her school and family along the way.
Evie represented Essex as the team captain in the National finals for 3 years running, winning the competition twice, and amazingly went on to play for England in the under 17s Euros last December. This was an extremely proud moment for Evie’s parents and family, seeing her stand in line with the national anthem playing representing her country.
Last season Evie was selected to play for Arsenal reserves, and played in the reserves FA cup final against Liverpool. Evie scored the winning goal in the 90th minute!
In between her busy schedule of attending Arsenal training session 4 times a week at the Conley ground in Hertfordshire, Evie manages to fit in some gym training sessions at the Brentwood Centre.
Working on her strength now, Evie is able to lift some weights, which is necessary to compete against some of the women on the pitch. Evie wants to spread the word to all of the young girls out there;
“If you like playing football, find a local club to join. Even if you’re not very good at first, keep trying, you will get there!” Evie has her sights set on playing for England Ladies in International games, and she is certainly well on her way! Good Luck Evie.

Fitness In Mind Member Focus
Meet LouFitness in Mind is a new exercise programme designed by Essex Mental Health Community, Mental health peer support volunteers and Brentwood Leisure Trust.
The programme provides a number of fitness and wellbeing classes for users experiencing mental ill health and mental distress. Exercise is a proven way of improving your mental wellbeing.
I caught up with our star Fitness in Mind user Lou, to ask her how the programme has inspired her.
How did you hear about Fitness in Mind?
I hadn’t left my room for over a year and a half and hadn’t exercised for some time, but was persuaded to visit Brentwood Mind with my mum. I had only been there a couple of times when I met Jason, one of the volunteers at Fitness in Mind. He told me about the project and arranged to meet me at the Brentwood Centre.
How did you find your first experience at the Brentwood Centre?
I’m really not good in new situations and it was a massive challenge just walking down the entrance path, but was helped along with my friend Chris from Mind. When I got closer to the front doors I saw Jason and he helped me out and introduced me to the team. It had been a long time since I’ve been able to socialise, but the Fitness in Mind team were so welcoming and friendly, it was the best move I’ve ever made.
What effect has Fitness in Mind had on your mental and physical wellbeing?
The exercise classes have improved my condition ten-fold , I now enjoy smiling and laughing and socialising. Just seeing people during the week is great, and you can feel the good in your body that the exercise is providing.
What would you say to people who are nervous and anxious about coming along for the first time?
Once you get your foot through the door the team are so welcoming it will change your life incredibly.
Fitness in Mind are running 2 regular classes a week at The Brentwood Centre:
