The dates for term 6 are on page 4 of this newsleer– please keep to hand as it is a busy term. Our school video to celebrate Bishops Down’s 50th birthday was filmed last week. There was great excitement from pupils and staff alike; the camera drone and confe were a parcular highlight. The filming was quite an experience and one we will never forget and we have cer- tainly all learnt that when filming paence is key! All the pracce, props and experse came together on the filming days and we can’t wait to see the results. Many thanks to the staff for all the addional working hours they have put in to make the experience so special. A special menon to Jan Cockburn for coordinang the rehearsals, the volunteers and the filming days. We are so fortunate to have such talented parents who gave their me so generously in the making of the video, a huge thank you to Nicky Wheeler, Julia Refet and Chris Gane. Hannah Rotchell from Stopgap Dance Company also volunteered her experse as did Andy and Marn the cameramen. Glenn Wood, local builder, also gave up a whole morning to erect and supervise the scaffolding tower on the school roof – a parcularly nerve wracking moment for me! Finally and most importantly, none of this would have been possible with out the experse and guidance of Paul Whington. I cannot express how grateful we are to him for taking our somewhat amateur dream and making it a wonderfully professional reality. Without his dedicaon to the project and his professional connecons it would have just been a ‘home video’ producon. Thank you so much! The film is currently in post producon and as soon as it is ready will hold a ‘Premiere’ for the children and post it on the website for all to see. I have included some behind the scene photos of the filming days below.

Welcome to the final newsletter of term 5. The dates for term 6 are on page 4 of this newsletter– please keep to hand as it is a busy term. Our school video to celebrate Bishops Down’s 50th birthday was filmed last week. There was great excitement from pupils and staff alike; the camera drone and confetti were a particular highlight. The filming was quite an experience and one we will never forget and we have cer-tainly all learnt that when filming patience is key! All the practice, props and expertise came together on the filming days and we can’t wait to see the results. Many thanks to the staff for all the additional working hours they have put in to make the experience so special. A special mention to Jan Cockburn for coordinating the rehearsals, the volunteers and the filming days. We are so fortunate to have such talented parents who gave their time so generously in the making of the video, a huge thank you to Nicky Wheeler, Julia Refet and Chris Gane. Hannah Rotchell from Stopgap Dance Company also volunteered her expertise as did Andy and Martin the cameramen. Glenn Wood, local builder, also gave up a whole morning to erect and supervise the scaffolding tower on the school roof – a particularly nerve wracking moment for me! Finally and most importantly, none of this would have been possible with out the expertise and guidance of Paul Whittington. I cannot express how grateful we are to him for taking our somewhat amateur dream and making it a wonderfully professional reality. Without his dedication to the project and his professional connections it would have just been a ‘home video’ production. Thank you so much! The film is currently in post production and as soon as it is ready will hold a ‘Premiere’ for the children and post it on the website for all to see. Spring Fair
We hope you all enjoyed this year's PSA Spring Fair at the weekend and dodged the short lived downpour! A huge thank you to everyone who helped out, you really made the day a success. Special thanks go out to Graham Naismith and Nicola Withers; this was their last fair and their help over the years has been invaluable.
We made a whopping £2300 profit which will go towards Empiribox Science kit and also some new P.E. kit. Thank you to everyone for your support.
For your information changes have been made to our Pupil Leave & Absence Policy in line with new
guidance produced by KCC . The law says that the only acceptable reasons for absence are;
Leave granted by the school (exceptional circumstances)
Illness or any unavoidable cause (relating to the child not the parent)
Failure by the LA to provide transport
Day of religious observance Term time holidays will not be authorised. If, in exceptional circumstances, you need to request permission for your child to be absent for any reason other than holiday, you should apply by letter to the headteacher at least three weeks in advance, stating the reason why your child needs to be off school. In cases of recurring absences you may be asked to pro-duce a medical certificate/evidence. A penalty notice will be issued when at least 10 sessions (5 school days) whether consecutive or not, are lost to unauthorised absence during any possible 100 school sessions or period of 50 days schooling. [this has changed from a seasonal school term] A penalty notice will be issued to each parent liable for the offence. For example, if two siblings were absent at the same time for more than 10 sessions then four penalties would be issued. Please see our school website for the full policy. Also note that occasionally we have good cause to believe that children have been on holiday, or have had a day out, when the excuse has been given that they are ill. In these circumstances we will change the register code from ’medical’ to unauthorised. Children can’t resist talking about a good day out or a holiday!
50th Celebration- Swinging Sixties day
Thank you so much to the 4 parents who have offered to come and support the
day, we still need some more to help the day run smoothly. The plans for the day
at the moment are as follows; First thing- A Catwalk for children and staff to
show off there 60's outfits, think flowers, Twiggy, tie dye you name it. Then a
series of Workshops all 60's themed will take place, your child will take part in 4 different
ones throughout the morning ranging from singing, dancing, pop art, 60's shows and many more.
Then we will have a themed Picnic Lunch on the back field. Finally, Fun at the Fair on the front
field. A vintage style fair will have appeared during the morning, hopefully with a carousel and
swing boats if enough money is raised. If there are any parents out there who would like to do-
nate any money for this to happen please see Mrs Kyte. Please can I ask all parents to keep this
a secret from the children we want it to be a surprise. I look forward to celebrating this momen-
tous occasion with the children. Many thanks, Mrs Kyte and the 50th Committee.
Sarah Stookes, CEO of Pepenbury and Camilla Slattery, Fundraising and Communica-
tions Manager, visited Year 5 Pine on Monday 8th May 2017, to find out all about
their amazing fundraising efforts for Pepenbury. The total amount of money was re-
vealed and we can officially announce that Year 5 Pine raised an incredible
£1798.03. We are looking forward to finding out how this money will be used, to sup-
port those with additional needs.
