GLORIA DEO VIVAT REGINA
PROCEDAT LUDUS FLOREAT CHAMAEMELUM
This four-fold Salute means: Glory to God! Long live the Queen! Let
the School advance! Let the camomile flourish! (The common camomile
of the fields, Chamaemelum Nobile, is the School’s emblem, chosen
in our early days with reference to Falstaff’s line in
Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 1: “The camomile, the more it is
trodden on, the faster it grows.”)

THE SCHOOL RULES
As a School based on Christian principles, we aim to develop and
encourage the formation amongst all our members of good
relationships and trust. Any behaviour that runs deliberately
against this principle that causes hurt, injury or distress to
others is not acceptable and will be dealt with according to the
rules which govern the discipline and good order of the School. Any
act likely to endanger life or property, or which is contrary to
common sense, is against the School Rules. Students are not to
interfere with or hurt or damage in any way any plant, shrub, tree
or living creature in or about the School.
Appropriate sanctions will be taken for any breach of the School
Rules. Sanctions may include detentions, confiscation, loss of
privileges, withdrawal from teaching groups and, at the most
serious level, fixed term and permanent exclusions.
Parents/Guardians will be informed when serious breaches of School
Rules occur.
Consideration, courtesy, co-operation and respect for others are
expected from all members of the School and from all visitors to
the School at all times.
EXPECTATIONS
The correct equipment must be brought to all lessons.
This includes: a black pen, a blue pen, a red pen, a 15cm or 30 cm
ruler, pencil, pencil sharpener, rubber, and calculator (seek
advice from the Maths Department).
The prescribed School uniform must always be worn, including to and
from School, on all occasions.
Punctuality is expected at all times from all members of the School
community.
3
ITEMS NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL
Weapons and knives are forbidden in School. Items that could harm,
frighten or hurt others are also forbidden. Any student found with
a knife or weapon in school will be excluded. Aggressive and
violent behaviour will not be tolerated.
Alcohol, solvents, cigarettes, matches, lighters and illegal
substances must never be brought onto the School site. The use of
any of these on the School premises or on the way to or from the
School is strictly forbidden.
Non-educational possessions valued at over £15 should not be
brought into the School.
Mobile phones and personal electronic equipment are not allowed in
School.
In addition to the items listed above, the following are also
prohibited in the School or within the School vicinity: Fireworks,
solvent based adhesives, noxious substances, permanent marker pens,
correcting fluid, aerosol cans, chewing gum, laser pens, obscene
publications and jewellery (other than items referred to under the
School Uniform).
4
SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
School property and the property and work of others must be treated
with respect. Any damage must be reported promptly to a member of
staff. Replacement or repair costs will normally be charged to
individuals who have caused damage.
Students should use the litter bins provided and must not leave
litter and rubbish within the School or the locality.
Students are expected to walk in the building, keeping to the left
in corridors and on stairways.
OUT OF BOUNDS
The Chapel corridor, the corridor between the staff room to the
stairs near E19, the new administration and reception block, the
School field and areas where cars are normally parked are
designated as out of bounds and must not be entered except with the
permission of a member of staff. With the revised timings for lunch
break, it is vital that students do not go near areas where classes
are being taught, except where necessary. If it is necessary to go
near teaching areas at lunchtime, it is vital that students are
quiet.
During examination periods, students must observe the temporary
designation of out of bounds areas in order that examination areas
are quiet.
5
ATTENDANCE
The School attaches great importance to regular and punctual
attendance. Irregular attendance can seriously damage academic
progress. Students are expected to attend School daily. Authorised
absence is only allowed for illness or medical appointments. It is
the policy of the School that students do not take holidays during
term time.
Parents are requested to inform the School promptly if their child
is absent, and an explanatory note must be given to the form
teacher or Mrs Miller (attendance clerk) immediately upon the
resumption of attendance.
Students will not be allowed into form rooms until 8.30 am.
Students who arrive after 8.35 am, when the register will be
marked, will be shown as latecomers. Lateness is actively
discouraged at all times, and will be punished according to the
punctuality guidelines. Persistent lateness will be punished more
severely. After lunch, students should be at their afternoon
lessons by 2.00 pm.
No student is to leave the School between 8.35 am - 3.15 pm without
the permission of their Head of House/a Deputy Headteacher or Mrs
Dennis/a first aider in the case of illness. In all cases, students
must register with the Office before leaving and after
returning.
6
EXCLUSION GUIDELINES
Our school is committed to the achievement of all ethnic groups and
all our policies and practice must support this commitment. 1. Only
the Headteacher (or a Deputy in the absence of the
Headteacher) has the right to exclude students. 2. Exclusion is the
final, most severe sanction available to schools. It
is therefore taken very seriously. Under normal circumstances
exclusion will be considered only after a whole range of other
sanctions and procedures have been tried.
3. Exclusions can be either internal, fixed-term or permanent. 4.
Exclusions will be used as a sanction in accordance with
Bishop
Stopford’s School Policy for Behaviour. 5. Work for excluded
students will be provided for exclusions of over
one day. 6. Every effort will be made to contact and inform the
parents
before the student is sent away from the School. All exclusions are
confirmed in writing. Students will normally be provided with a
copy of the letter for parents upon their departure.
7. Every effort will be made by the School to work together
with
parents to use exclusion in a positive way, for the ultimate
benefit of student learning.
8. “Return to School” interviews will be offered for students
and
parents to discuss the exclusion. 9. In accordance with the DfE
guidelines, parents will be responsible
for supervising their child during the first five days of any
exclusion. From day six of a fixed-term exclusion, suitable full
time education will be arranged via the School.
7
10. The Local Authority – Enfield - is responsible for full
time
education from day six of a permanent exclusion. 11. Students whose
behaviour fails to improve despite exclusion are
at serious risk of permanent exclusion. 12. When the safety and
welfare of others in the school is
endangered, permanent exclusion will be considered. 13. The School
may, on occasions, choose to utilise internal exclusion
and place students in the School’s Student Support Centre if it is
deemed beneficial to the students behaviour and disciplinary
management. Parents will be informed if this action is taken.
14. Parents have the right to state their case in writing on
exclusions
of 1-5 days to the Governors Discipline Committee. 15. For
exclusions of 5 and 10 days total in any one term, parents
may request that the Governors Discipline Committee convene a
meeting at which they may state their case.

THEMES FOR WORSHIP The School has its own Pause for Thought
programme and Themes for
Worship will be outlined in this programme.
THE PRAYER FOR ALL STOPFORDIANS
The Prayer for all Stopfordians is offered in the morning at the
time when the light, which burns throughout the day every day in
term, is lit before the start of the Communion Service. If an Old
Stopfordian is present, it is customary to invite him or her to say
the responses.
_________________________ Let us pray. In the Name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Glory be to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the
beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Praise the Lord: The Lord’s Name be praised. All members of this
School (the light is now lit) wherever they may be, present with
us, absent from us, or gone forth from among us into the world, may
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit bless,
preserve, guide, govern, direct, protect, and prosper, today and
always: Amen. May the souls of those departed this life, through
the mercy of God rest in peace, and to life everlasting rise in
glory. Amen. (In Advent and Lent, the Collect of the Season is said
here.)
10
O Lord our heavenly Father, Almighty and Everlasting God, who hast
safely brought us to the beginning of this day, defend us in the
same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no
sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings
may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that is righteous in
thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, to whom with
thee O Father and thee O Holy Spirit be all honour and glory, world
without end. Amen. The Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting:
And his truth endureth from generation to generation. God grant to
the living grace, to the departed rest, to the Church, the Queen,
the Commonwealth, and all mankind, peace and concord, and to us and
all his servants his blessing today and always. Amen.
TIMINGS FOR HOUSE FESTIVALS The House with the festival will go to
Eucharist in the Hall at 8.45 a.m. Extended registration or House
meetings for other Houses at 8.45 a.m.

THE SCHOOL UNIFORM
The School’s uniform is compulsory, but it has been kept simple and
natural, in order to give each individual student, and the School
as a whole, a smart appearance. All property should be clearly
marked with the student’s name. It is, therefore, the
parent’s/guardian’s and student’s joint responsibility to ensure
that the correct uniform is provided and worn at all times,
including on the way to and from School. If there is any doubt as
to the acceptability of any item, other than those specified in the
following sections, parents are advised to check with the student’s
Head of House before buying, or allowing to be worn, any such
item.
UNIFORM RELATING TO BOYS AND GIRLS
Blazers Navy Blazers of Polyester Twill or Hopsack. Available with
or without School badge attached. The badges are sold separately.
The School Blazer is compulsory for all students in Years 7 to
11.
Jumpers Real navy-blue, long-sleeved V-necked and absolutely plain:
no fancy patterns or stitching or other colours. Jumpers may be
shop bought (Trutex Acrylic) or hand-knitted, but the rib at the
waist must not be more than 2” or 50mm wide. No jumpers ribbed
throughout allowed.
Ties Students must wear the new School tie with 2 stripes according
to year and House. Students must wear the School tie in the
conventional manner; if a member of staff judges that the tie is
not tied appropriately the student will be expected to correct this
accordingly.
Art and Craft Students must provide themselves with an apron or an
old shirt to wear over their uniform for all Art lessons. For Craft
lessons, a bib apron that can be tied at the front, with or without
a pocket, is required.
12
Outdoor Coats Plain, black or navy-blue coats, rain jackets and
weather coats. Leather, imitation leather, suede, sheepskin and
other such garments are totally unacceptable and must not be worn
for School. Hats A plain navy woollen hat or baseball cap with the
School crest embroidered on the front can be worn at break and
lunchtime in the playground. No other types of hats are acceptable.
These hats must NOT be worn in the School buildings under any
circumstances. These hats can only be purchased directly through
the School.
Jewellery The wearing of jewellery is forbidden in Years 7 to 11
except for one signet ring if requested and one gold chain/crucifix
worn out of view inside the shirt. One small plain gold stud or one
small, plain gold ring only may be worn in each pierced ear. Nose
studs/rings or any other piercing are not allowed. As with all
items of property, the School cannot accept any responsibility for
jewellery in the case of loss or damage. False nails are not
permitted for any year group.

Trousers Dark Grey trousers of plain Terylene or Worsted, with the
traditional crease, obtainable from the School outfitters. The only
trousers permitted are the plain, standard school ones of the

Examinations are for the beginning and end of the written papers.
All students must remember that some theory papers, and most of the
practical and oral tests, take place before the main examination
period, during the whole of the first half of the summer term.
School assessment of all GCSE project work, course work and
practical skills should be completed by the end of the Spring Term
at the latest. These marks form an integral part of the final grade
awarded in a subject and students who fail to submit their work
will be penalised at GCSE. Parents are strongly advised in these
circumstances not to arrange family holidays during the period from
January to the end of June. In some subjects written papers begin
as early as 1 May. Please note, it is not School Policy to
authorise absence for holiday purposes.

SCHOOL SONG
Captain of Israel’s host, and Guide Of all who seek the land above,
Beneath thy shadow we abide, The cloud of thy protecting love: Our
strength thy grace, our rule thy word, Our end the glory of the
Lord. By thine unerring Spirit led We shall not in the desert
stray, We shall not full direction need, Nor miss our providential
way; As far from danger as from fear, While Love, almighty Love is
near.
Charles Wesley 1707-1788
