There is still time to get into the July 12th member - guest 3 man scramble and as usual I will be hounding you for your entries. 7:15 shotgun, barbecue and cash payouts to 1/3 of the fi eld and closest to the pin payouts on 4 par 3‛s. There is also a chance for a week in one of Mexico‛s top resorts. Don‛t be left out and get the information to me by mail, email or text. You can drop the info in the men‛s club box by the computer also, but hurry time is running out and I need a number for the club.!

Construction is still going on and will continue into October. Once they fi nish the renovation to pro shop area and bar , they will conclude with the cart storage and the entire patio will have recieved the facelift and deemed earthquake proof.!

Speaking of facelifts, everytime I play the course I noticed a new wrinkle. Teeing off from 15 north, I have realized shorter distance in my drives lately. As I am walking to my ball I feel an unusual cushion under my feet,I think it is called grass and very thick grass at that. I know this sounds sarcastic but for those of us that have seen the course in earlier days this is truly another gold star by Franco‛s name, the course superintendent. The pride in his work is evident on every hole at Royal Vista and if you get a chance you should say hi and thanks for the great job. He is the one driving around in the cart that looks like he just graduated from high school. Thanks Franco we appreciate your hard work.

Tim Devaney - President

From the Treasurer---We‛ve got money, aka, we‛re “solvent”! Of course all that could change as I head out to the Mediterranean looking for fi ne wines and hitherto unknown and un played courses in golf Mecca‛s like Venice (I‘m sure the water hazards are well defi ned and the gondola rides to the island greens are beautiful), Dubrovnik, Athens (where the in ground monuments can‛t be missed), Mykonos, Kusadasi, Florence (I hear some local guy by the name of “David” is quite the player), and Barcelona (where an architect named “Gaudi” has been building spectacular churches and courses but hasn‛t fi nished a one in over 100 years)…wow, that‛s quite a sentence! And all to let you know I‛m going on vacation. We have paid all tourneys to date, including the Presidents Cup, won again by “the little blond kid”, your president, Mr. Devaney, in a hard fought match over Jorge Morales. Congrats to him and all the winners of late, with Mr. Hall, Mr. Merrill, Mr. Bowers, and Mr. Oshiro collecting a good portion of the recent payouts. Member/Guest payouts will no doubt add to the pockets of many who care to venture into the fray on July 12th for the Texas Scramble. $80. buys you food, fun, possible fortune, and maybe a week in Cabo San Lucas. The fl ier is attached so get your entry in soon to reserve your spot…a great bang for your golfi ng buck. While you‛re getting bang for the golfi ng buck…save a few for Laughlin, by the way. Flier and particulars to follow after the M/G, but Avi, Los Lagos, and the Aquarius on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 will be our place of choice to hit it, fi nd it, and hit it again. The courses aren‛t up to U.S. Open standards, but you will get to try and duplicate many of the 20-30 foot putts from off the greens that Bubba, Phil, Rory, Jordan and any number of other pretenders had to make recently at Pinehurst #2...one of the top tracks in the country. Hard to tell after watching the best players in the world fl ounder around, embarrassingly, and basically be happy with rounds “somewhere around par”. Martin Kaymer seemed to be the only one to keep a ball one the green when putting to the hole from off the greens. I‛m starting to believe my lack of a short game would have prepared me for Pinehurst since I tend to putt anything 10-20 from the green as a matter of necessity…I may have had a chance to break 100. And speaking of trying to shoot a number, a recent book I just fi nished, “The Old Man and the Tee”, written by Turk Pipkin, is a nice summertime read. It‛s a true story about a 6‛ 7” golfer who gives himself 12 months to lower his handicap 10 strokes and break 80 at Pebble Beach. You‛ll go places, meet people, and improve your golf game in a fun and informative narrative about a son and his quest to please his dad. Though Father‛s Day is over, if you like books with a golf fl air, this is a good choice. At under 300 pages, an enjoyable look at something we can all do…given the right motivation. Enjoy

Jokes by Dennis, During his physical examination, a doctor asked a retired man about his physical activity level. The man said he spent 3 days a week, every week in the outdoors. “Well, yesterday afternoon was typical; I took a fi ve hour walk about 7 miles through some pretty rough terrain. I waded along the edge of a lake. I pushed my way through 2 miles of brambles. I got sand in my shoes and my eyes. I avoided standing on a snake. I climbed several rocky hills. I took a few ‘leaks‛ behind some big trees. I ran away from a pissed off mother bear and then ran away from one angry bull Elk. The mental stress of it all left me shattered. At the end of it all I drank a few beers and a tall glass of bourbon”. Amazed by the story, the doctor said, “You must be one hell of an outdoors man!” “No,” the guy replied, “I‛m just a really lousy golfer”.

I‛d rather be on a boat with a drink on the rocks that in the drink with the boat on the rocks. Do what you want and say what you think as those who care don‛t matter and those who matter don‛t care. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”.

Happy 4th of July; and it‛s time for the Member, Member, Guest. This has been a favorite of mine from day one. I would have loved to put this format in the Spring Fling; but change is hard for our group. The Member, Member, Guest has lots of challenges; for all three team members. If you choose one shot over the other; could result in your best player missing the next shot. Big Fun for all!! Next years Spring Fling is rapping up; the golf course is still Taquitze Creek again and the dates have been moved out to miss all the concerts in the Desert. The dates are; April 30th and May 1st; please adjust those calenders for those dates.

I have still not selected a hotel as of this date. I have narrowed the selections down to 2 hotels. 1 The Saguaro; and 2 Courtyard; both places are in Palm Springs; and will allow us to bring in food and alcohol for the raffl e. I will this month go and visit both hotels for location to the golf course, and be sure the quality standards meet our groups needs. More to follow next news letter.

Happy 4th of July; and it‛s time for the Member, Member, Guest. This has been a favorite

Kriss Ozols - Tournament Chairman

Looks like the presidents cup is a tournament that is made for Mr. Devaney, this is Tim‛s Looks like the presidents cup is a tournament that is made for Mr. Devaney, this is Tim‛s 2nd year to win this tournament. Next year we are looking into breaking this into 4 separate fl ights and we will be playing this over a period of 2 to 3 weekends so this will not drag on for the 6 weeks that it has in the past few years. We have also made the payouts a little more friendly this year so that the money is spread out a little better. We fi gure if you win one match you deserve something back. So we started the payout during the round of 16 and progressed from there so half of the fi eld that qualifi es gets some sort of return.

We have come to the midway point in the year and we currently have 31 people that have qualifi ed for the TOC already this year, and there are a hand full of multiple winners so far this year. There is a tie for the money leader position, just by chance they all play in the same group most of the time, as well they are the only people with 3 wins each. Good work guys and keep up the good turn outs to the tournaments.
