Bio Fantasy is a tribute to Chairil Anwar and the center point of Tulisan’s Fall/Winter 2015-2016 collection. The project features 75 illustrated editions by Melissa Sunjaya, depicting a cornucopia of imaginary microscopic

cells. Excerpts of Chairil Anwar’s poetry are hand-lettered and secretly embedded behind these works of art, in which hidden layers can only be

viewed with a red film lens.

Similar to microbial symbiosis, our modern society is always evolving. Cyber-anthropology examines the changing role that distance, age, gender, and social status play in modern life. With this new field of study in mind, Tulisan

developed a collection that embraces the ideas embodied by the millennial generation. Using vibrant color palettes paired with modern yet practical

silhouettes, we aimed to craft stylish and dynamic products that celebrate the drive to explore one’s own unique individuality.

In making this collection, we have established an alliance with an Indonesian bluesign® certified manufacturing partner. Bluesign® Swiss system is a strict

screening designed to monitor the responsible use of resources, clean processes, water and air emissions from the factory, and safe procedures for the workers as

well as a safe final product for the consumer.

'Tulisan' means ‘handwriting’ in Bahasa Indonesia. This simple word is symbolic of making your mark while staying true to yourself and sharing your experience with others. To those who wear our collections, it is about colorful storytelling

through handcrafted products made with love in small batches. Tulisan began as a home-based art studio in Jakarta filled with dedicated people who simply

believed in each other and were determined to follow their dreams.

Jakarta is not London, Paris, New York or any other great city. Despite its pollution and bumper-to-bumper traffic, living in Jakarta is about taking chances,

being close to family, and having true friends. It is a melting pot where you will find many inspiring minds and undiscovered talents. Appearances are often

deceiving. This is definitely the case with a chaotic city like Jakarta, but once you delve into its inner beauty you realize that this is a place brimming with vitality

and an abundance of untapped creative energy.

From start to finish, each Tulisan product is made by a team of passionate artists in Indonesia. My team consists of determined individuals who honor their

intuitions and project the very best of their being. Many of them have crossed over from their academic or professional background to pursue what they do today

for Tulisan. Together we empower each other to achieve what we never thought was possible. The resulting experience is often a nerve-racking journey to self-

discovery. Through Tulisan, I hope to convey a different perspective on Jakarta and to present honest creations from the heart of its people.

This collection is accompanied by an original Sci-Fi short story by Melissa Sunjaya that reveals how courage and mental liberation can be found through the poetry of literary maestro Chairil Anwar. Illustrating a futuristic

setting in year 2942, the story reflects on the idea that humans can easily bring great harm to their surroundings if they do not understand themselves.
