23 years service as Malayalam teacher. My novel ‘MarakkappilTheyyangal’ is a text book for B.A., B.Sc. Degree Kannur, M.G. and Ponidchery Universities.
Short Story ‘Vayillakkunnilappan’ is taught in Kerala University and Story ‘Moksham’ is in M.G. University Syllabus. Now my latest novel ‘Enmakaje’ is selected for extra reading in Kerala University Syllabus.
Other stories as ‘Muchilottamma’ and ‘Indulekha Randam Divasam’ were Included in the Kannur University Syllabus earlier. In Madras University story ‘Seethayanam’ and in Mysore University (B.Sc., B.Ed.) ‘Valillatha Kindi’ was taught for three years. My story ‘Commercial Break’ was included in Calicut University B.Com. Syllabus for last three years.

When P.G. Course as started at P.G. Malayalam Centre Kanhangad by Kannur University, classes were taken by me as guest teacher. My novel ‘Marakkappile Theyyangal’ was in the P.G. Syllabus (2004-06) for Kannur University. The story ‘Vithachathu’ is taught in Kaladi University and ‘Commercial Break’ in Kerala University now.
Research on novel ‘Marakkappile Theyyangal’ was done by P.G. students and thesis was submitted by them in the following universities:

My novel ‘Enmakaje’ was studied by two P.G. Students and submitted thesis on April 2010. 1. Princi K. , Kannur University Centre, Nileshwaram. 2. Vijesh K., Kaladi University, Payyannur Centre. In Calicut University M.A. Malayalam Syllabus for criticism paper my book ‘C.P. Achuthamenonum Malayala Vimarshanavum’ was included.
3. M.Phil. Environmental Vision in the novel ‘Enmakaje’ and ‘Marakkappile Theyyangal’ were studied and thesis was submitted for M.Phil. (Madhura Kamraj University) in 2010 by a student, Noorjahan E.
4. Any Other: Dr. Mini Alice of Aluva U.C. College was honoured Ph.D. for her studies about four novels including ‘Marakkappile Theyyangal’ in 2009 from M.G. University. Four research students of different universities are doing research on my work ‘Marakkapile theyyangal’ for Ph.D. Sri. Selvamani of university College Trivandrum is doing research on short stories in Malayalam which include my stories also for his Ph.D.

b. Teaching Method: Always give importance to human values while teaching, connects the syllabus with contemporary issues, talks about environmental issues and secularism. Introduces about famous books and their values to students.

Tries to increase the standard and find out the creativity in the students and bring them forward.

Festival poliyandram which is seen in Kasaragod district is a function in which North Kerala invites ‘Mahabali’. This was pointed out by me and for this I visited many places and talked about it with many people and wrote articles in Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi daily).

F. Extension Work/ Communal Services
a) Give a brief account of the teaching contribution to i) Community work related National Integration, Secularism, Democracy,
Socialism, Humanism, Peace, Scientific Temper, Flood or Drought relief, Small Family Norms, etc.
A. Made many visits with students to the villages which were the victims of
endosulfan and made them aware of the dangers in using chemical pesticides and also provided monetary help to the victims.
B. Inspired students to participate against Nileshwam River Pollution,
Pallthumala mining and usage of Endosulfan.
C. In Collaboration with Neithal, an Eco-friendly club, a one-day programme was conducted to study about the pollution in Karyankod river with students.
D. Written script for the film “kayoppu” (Director: Ranjith) which upholds
secularism, religious equality and a criticism of terrorism, written the story and script of “Panjuruli” for Kairali television which deals with Endosulfan issues. Written the story and script of “Commercial Break”

which deals with the problems of women and a discussion on feminism, prepared script in 1986 a documentary in Doordarshan Television, which deals with blood donation.
E. I am the first president of ‘Ban Endosulfan organization inaugurated in the beginning of 2000. Now vice president of the same organization. Also working in other environmental organizations.
F. Writings in my 27 books uphold human values. Also, other prose pieces, essays and collections which haven’t been published yet also deal with the same theme. My short story ‘Kannukal Puzhakal’ first collection of short stories in Malayayalam which deals with environmental issues.
II. National Literary Mission

also prescribes for further reading in Malayalam Padavali of 7th and 9th Classes.

b) Co-Curricular Activities
Sahithyavedi has been conducting a meeting on every Friday for the last 22 years. Discussions were made on the articles written by students and on comtemporary issues, conducted many literary workshops and published remarkable books. Nehru college does not offer degree course in any language, but if we take the whole colleges in Kerala, Nehur college occupies topmost position in conducting this much programmes in literary files. Sahithyavedi also gives importance to humanitarian activities, gave monitory support to Endosulfan Victims.
Before one month, a lady in Periya, Karthyayani, endosulfan victim, was in a critical stage and sahithyavedi gave an amount of Rs. 10,000 for immediate treatment. The members of Sahithyavedi won many prizes in University competitions and magazine competitions.
c) Enrichment of Campus Life.
Published a dictionary called “Ponjaru” by collecting the words in our local dialect. This book is the result of the co-operation of the whole college. Always organized novel programmes.

Last year, “Nooru Basheer” was published and the famous magician R.K. Malayath showed some magics which Basheer used to show during his lifetime. Dr. Sukumar Azhikode was also present in the function. Sahithyavedi is blessed by the presence of august personages during the publication ceremony. Sahityavedi gives maximum encouragement to those who have an interest in literature. Some of the famous writers in Malayalam are the products of sahityavedi.

1. The first Malayalam dictionary in local dialects “Ponjaru” might be the first achievement in any of the local Indian dialects. Students of this college gave complete co-operation to fulfill my ideas and plans as the editor. Many scholars in Malayalam congratulated for our achievement. By following “Ponjaru”, several other local dialect dictionaries such as “pazhama”, “Manjalam” were published by other organizations in the district. About 200 words are taken from this dictionary in the new edition of “Sabdathaaraavali”, Dr. Koyammakkoya, research project of Lakshadweep Kala Academy, received “Ponjaru” as a model for his research in local dialect. Many reviews were published based on this work.
2) D.C. books published “Jeevithathinte Upama” a campus novel written by 13 M.A.
Students. I was the editor of this novel. “Abhayaarthikalude Lokam”, written by 11 students, published by Maathrubhumi books also brought much attention. Royalty was given to students for these two novels. A lot of discussion were made on these novels. Preface to this novel was written by Sathyan Anthikkad and this novel was released by Madhupal. Royalty was distributed by Lohitadas.
3) 100 writers wrote in the Onam edition, “Njattuvela”. The book was released by M. Mukundan.
4) 100 Basheer includes 100 studies on Basheer written by 100 famous writers, begins with M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Also added 10 studies on Basheer made by the students. The book was released by Sukumar Azhikode.

5) “Vayanattu Kulavan”, an environmental-Folklore text was written against hunting, which was a cultural practice among the people in Kasaragod as part of Theyyam festival. This book consists of 20 writings of famous writers. Mullakkara Ratnakaran, honourable agricultural minister published the book.
6) I am one of the famous fiction writers in Malayalam. Have been writing for 36 years. Published 27 books, received 12 awards.
7) My works had been translated to English, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi languages. 8) My Novels and short stories are prescribed in syllabus of six universities Kerala,
MG, Calicut, Kannur, Kaladi and Pondichery. 9) One day seninar was conducted by Neithal, Environmental Club Nileswaram, on
my novel “Marakkapile Theyyangal” at Thaikkadappuram on 9-3-2008. About 20 well known Malayalam writers, including Ashamenon talked in this seminar. As prescribed in the syllabus, various seminar on reading “Marakkapile Theyyangal” were conducted in various colleges and reading clubs. I participated in some of the seminars.
10) One day seminar ‘Safiya: Vakkum Varayum’, based on my short story “Aarthu peyyunna Mazayil oru Jumaila” published in Mathrubhumi weekly, was conducted by safiya Action Committee and ‘Laya’ Karivellor at Kasaragod on Sep 8, 2008. Got some amount as royalty and was given to Safiyas (the character in the story) mother by then MLA K V Kunhiraman for their house reconstruction fund.
11) My work “Enmakaje” was released by Sreenivasan at Kollam on 2009 Agu. 28. within the completion of one year, various seminar were conducted based on this noval. Famous personalities participated in the discussion and presented various papers. I participated in 10 seminar on “Enmakaje” as follows:

one year of publication. This is for the first time in Malayalam that is such a big response

14) Second edition of the novel was released at Trivandrum by Sugathakumari within the completion of one year of publication of the first edition.

16) Kananda translation of this novel was published by Ankitha books. Famous writers such as chandrashekara Kambar participated in the publishing programme. Scored one among top ten ranks in Kannada and got fourth rank.
17) Also is translating to Hindi, English, Hebrew, Tamil languages. 18) In 2009, Enmakaje, as selected as the best book in Malayalam by famous critics
for India Today, scored first place in Varthamanam, Manorama online.
19) “Enmakaje” was selected for book reading competition (State Level) conducted by Vidyarangam Kala Sahithya Vedi, a competition conducted for school students (Kerala govt. notification, Dated 18.08.2010.
20) Royalty of 16,500 for the first edition of “Enmakaje” was given to 5 patients in Enmakaje sheelavathi, Avinesh, Kittanna Shetty, Suresh, Harshit) by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthananthan in the function conducted in Perla.
21) As a result of reading this work, many visited Enmakaje village. This novel gave a lot of awareness against the use of chemical pesticides. In an “Enmakaje Seminar” conducted in Alakkod, Kannur, Pappachan, a businessman declared that he was going to close his chemical pesticide business. 50 students from Sir Syed College and myself visited Enmakaje village on 5.4.2010.
22) “Enmakaje” got Shanta Kumaran Thampi award for the best novel published in the year 2007-08-09. Award was received from Palakkad on 5-9-2010.
23) “Marakkappile Theyyangal” was selected by many for M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. Courses.. Dr. Mini Alice of Aluva U.C. College as honoured Ph.D. for her studies about four novels including ‘Marakkappile theyyangal’ in 2009 from M.G. University. About 4 persons are now doing research in Marakkap.
24) Many dramas and recitations ( Kathaprasangam) based on the novel were performed in university and state level school competitions and won many prizes. Mono acts based on this novel also won prizes in university competitions. “Marakkappile Theyyangal” a one hour film version of my novel was telecasted in Kairali and Kairali People channels during August 2010. I was awarded

television award of state govt. in 2002 by considering the story and script of my story “Commercial Break”.
25) By ‘Malayalam Literary Survey’ has selected 12 best novels in Malayalam written during the last 10 years. Their aim was to introduce those works to English readers. ‘Marakkappile Theyyangal’ was also selected as one of the best 12 novels (Kerala Sahithya Akademy, Jan-Mar 2010).
26) Have been presenting short stories in Aakashawaani for 26 years; appeared for various interviews conducted by different media.
