The fan-free metal housing is a proven, rugged design that has set bintec devices apart from the competition for years now. Many bintec models also allow customers to mount their devices in 19-inch server racks as an alternative to desktop operation. Thanks to the ongoing development of the platform, the new desktop devices also come equipped with an energy-efficient internal power supply.

Use multiple concurrent IPSec channels to establish secure links be-tween branch locations, subsidiaries, and home offices. The integrated IPSec implementation in bintec routers allows the use of pre-shared keys as well as digital certificates as recommended by Germany’s Federal Office for Informa-tion Security. This lets you use a public key infrastructure and ensures maximum security. An object-oriented state-ful inspection firewall offers packet filtering to provide ad-ditional protection against attack.

A graphical user interface is the primary means of config-uring bintec routers. This fast, web-based graphical user interface makes it easy for users to set up routers with the integrated configuration wizard.

Administrators can also manage the devices locally or remotely using configurable telnet, SSH, ISDN login, or GSM dial-in. The bintec DIME Manager gives administra-tors a free software tool that allows them to manage up to 50 devices at once.

Businesses can easily integrate bintec routers into existing company networks. The routers also allow for a gradual migration to the new IPv6 internet protocol.

What’s more, the integrated LTE (4G) modem ensures high availability and redundancy for the company’s IT infrastructure. The bintec 4Ge is an add-on device that allows owners of existing router infrastructures to retrofit their systems with LTE (4G) connectivity. The device accomplishes this by simply connecting to the router over an Ethernet cable. Once connected, you can easily perform all neces-sary configurations on the router itself. Thanks to the use of standard protocols, the device is compatible with most routers on the market including third-party devices.

The 4Ge gets its power either by means of the Power over Ethernet injector or an external power supply. The hous-ing includes an integrated wall mount, allowing quick and easy installation. The Kensington slot also allows you to secure your hardware against theft.

Enterprise routers are normally located in server closets or data centers, which frequently do not have mobile net-work coverage at all or, if available, the signal is not strong enough to achieve broadband speeds on 4G networks. The bintec 4Ge was designed to tackle this problem. It is installed outside the server room at the position with the best coverage and provides 4G mobile data connectivity to the router over the company’s Ethernet network. Thanks to this approach, 4G access no longer requires expensive coaxial cabling and repeaters. At the same time, reception quality is considerably improved.

The bintec RXL series provides an ex-tensive set of professional, high-perfor-mance features that enable a wide spec-trum of application scenarios. The 19-inch metal housing and highly efficient internal switch mode power supply provide long-term reliability for mission-critical applica-tions.

bintec RXL series devices have a total of ten Gigabit Eth-ernet ports (8 x RJ45 and 2 x SFP), which can be indepen-

dently configured for use in a LAN, WAN, or DMZ. The gateway can be operated behind one or several ADSL, SDSL, VDSL, or cable modems. It’s even possible to use a mix of different types of modems. The 19-inch metal housing and energy-efficient switch mode power supply ensure long-term reliability for mis-sion-critical applications. The tried-and-trusted bintec Remote CAPI is a network application that builds the bridge between workstations in the LAN and external ISDN functionality. As a re-sult, CAPI 2.0-compliant applications can communicate through the ISDN ports on the media gateway regardless of the PC hardware used.

bintec Remote CAPI is multi-server and multi-site ca-pable. Several servers can use the ISDN interfaces of the media Gateway concurrently, and a server can use the ISDN ports of several gateways. Voice and fax applica-tions can transfer data simultaneously on all available channels. Dedicated signal processors (DSPs) for each channel prevent the system as a whole from becoming overloaded. Routing and transcoding cannot interfere with one another.

You can install and manage the CAPI applications with-out rebooting, which is a considerable advantage, par-ticularly for servers. In addition to Linux, the client inter-face supports all current MS Windows® operating system versions (16 / 32 / 64 Bit) and applications. bintec elmeg GmbH has also made the source code available for use in embedded applications.

The popular SIP protocol is used for high-performance VoIP connections and forms the foundation of many VoIP gateway solutions. The transition from “traditional” telephony and fax connections to voice over IP and fax over IP is supported by all bintec media gateways.

The media gateway transcodes both telephone calls and fax transmissions (T.38) between the IP network and the traditional telephone network. Terminals can be regis-tered directly with a VoIP SIP provider or a VoIP PBX since the gateway also functions as a terminal adapter. Conversely, SIP terminals can also be connected to an ISDN PBX. Both traditional ISDN PABXs as well as mod-ern IP PABXs with ISDN interfaces (BRI/PRI) are sup-ported.

These technical capabilities allow support for T.38 fax transmission in both of the following scenarios: a fax ma-chine on the analog interface of the PABX can send and receive faxes over SIP, and FoIP clients and servers on the LAN can use the ISDN interface for fax transmissions.

Consequently, both fax over IP (T.38) and analog Group 3 fax (T.30) capabilities are available. The voice encoding used in the bintec media gateways can be adapted to meet user quality requirements (with G.711, G.726, or G.729A codecs) and deliver ISDN voice quality while still provid-ing a high degree of compression. Secure encryption for both voice signaling (TLS) and voice traffic (SRTP) can be implemented if required. Regardless of what type of en-coding is used, this makes eavesdropping through the LAN impossible. The intelligent Quality of Service algorithms of the bintec media gateways prioritize VoIP voice traffic over normal data, continually ensuring sufficient bandwidth for interruption-free VoIP connections.

bintec XAdmin

For secure and stabile connections between company headquarters and branches, VPN gateways are the best choice. But performing the necessary configurations for the branch gateways on-site would be very time-con-suming and costly. bintec XAdmin offers a quick, secure, and convenient solution. With bintec XAdmin, system administrators can set up, configure, update, and admin-ister all remote branch gateways from a central location. Even VPN gateways that operate behind the branch’s ac-cess point can be managed with XAdmin. With a new feature that allows you to export configuration files, bin-tec elmeg devices can now be integrated into the Nagios network management system.

Thanks to integrated support for digital certificates, bin-tec XAdmin is also suited for solutions that utilize a pub-lic key infrastructure. The XAdmin management tool can be used with the integrated certificate server or external certificate servers.

bintec XAdmin is offered in three versions which differ in the server-client connection method used. XAdmin over IP uses the existing IP infrastructure, XAdmin over ISDN and XAdmin over GSM use ISDN or mobile communica-tions networks.

You can also use a combination of different XAdmin ver-sions. For instance, XAdmin over ISDN is particularly useful for dialing in to new routers that still have their factory settings to perform the initial configuration. For updates and modifications on live net-works, however, XAdmin over IP is the most cost-efficient option.
