We received our indicative budget from the Department of Education and Training in September. We are a large school with an excellent staff team who ensure that all students have the very best teaching and learning and opportunities to enjoy wonderful school experiences. The staff have worked together with leadership to develop the following school and staff structure for next year. We will be operating 19 classes as follows: 3 Foundation classes, 5 Year 1 /2 classes, 5 Year 3 /4 classes, 3 Year 5 classes and 3 Year 6 classes. Specialist programs will continue to be Chinese, Physical Education, Art and Music. We will also have a Literacy Intervention and Student Wellbeing teacher. Our staff team will undergo some changes next year. Miss Becky Liu has been appointed to a teaching position at Maranatha Christian College and is being replaced by our original LOTE teacher Sarah Cherry. We are also very pleased to be welcoming graduate teacher Miss Alannah Aiken to the Bimbadeen Heights teaching team next year. Mrs Kate Troschke will teach Year 6 Music and provide teaching support in some classrooms. Mrs Cath Buckland will continue as our Student Wellbeing leader and Literacy Intervention teacher. Perhaps the biggest change will be the retirement of Mr Ray Legione after 40 years of teaching. Ray taught at Yarra Glen primary school for 10 years and then moved to Bimbadeen Heights. He has taught here for 30 years, mainly as our Art teacher. Ray is an outstanding teacher who has made a real difference and inspired so many generations of students with his common sense advice of keep your head down, try your hardest and always do your best work”. Ray will also be missed for his fantastic efforts in keeping our school looking its best, repairing and maintaining fixtures and fittings as leader of our Buildings and Grounds committee and facilities co-ordinator. We will further acknowledge the contribution of these teachers in future newsletters. SCHOOL STRUCTURE & STAFFING FOR

NEXT YEAR CONT….

Mrs Judy Todd will retire after 20 years of service as an Integration Aide and has also made a significant difference to the educational experiences of the many students she has supported through the school. We will also be farewelling Integration Aide, Louise De Graauw who is leaving us after 5 years. She has provided great support for many children and the teachers she worked with in her time here. We wish both Judy and Louise all the very best with the next stage of their lives and thank them for their significant contribution to Bimbadeen Heights Primary School.

There will be some room changes and 4 of the Year 1 /2 grades will move during Term 2 when Stage 2 of the building project is complete.

Class lists for next year are being finalised after being checked by class teachers, specialist teachers and school leadership.

As outlined in previous newsletters, it is not possible to consider parent requests received after the class structure is published. Children will go into their new classes and meet their teachers in early December.

FOUNDATION AND YEAR 1/2

SWIMMING

I have heard some great stories of persistence as our Founders and some of our Year 1/2 children participate in intensive swimming lessons at the Kings swimming pool. It is essential our children learn to develop the water confidence and swimming skills so vital to ensure they can safely participate in water activities throughout their lives.

2019 FOUNDATION PARENT

INFORMATION NIGHT

On Tuesday night, we held our 2019 Foundation information evening. It was fantastic to meet so many new parents and welcome them to Bimbadeen Heights Primary. As was pointed out they are embarking on an educational journey with their children that will conclude in 2032 when the children complete Year 12!

SPRING FAIR

MUSIC

SCHOOL CHOIR SINGS AT REMEMBRANCE DAY MEMORIAL SERVICE

Sunday 11 November was the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and there was a celebration to mark the event at Hookey Park, Mooroolbark. Many people in the community were represented and it was lovely to see some past Bimbadeen students speaking on behalf of their secondary schools during the service. The free lunch provided by the Lions Club was delicious and the afternoon concert featured the "Remembrance Choir" directed by Jane Monk and the Bimbadeen Heights Primary School Choir. Sabrina L, Jayda K and Hayley L accompanied the choir on chime bars while they sang "Home Among the Gum Trees" and "One Song". The two choirs sang the final

item together in a truly memorable rendition of "I Am Australian" that raised goose bumps as the voices blended beautifully.

Congratulations to all members of the Choir for their excellence both on and off the stage. Many thanks to the parents for supporting their children by bringing them. It was a very well organised event and the day ran very smoothly. Thanks also to Liz Downs for taking the photos, much appreciated. Lynne Burt Specialist Music Teacher.

WEDNESDAY 28TH NOVEMBER

11:30 - 1:00PM

It’s our favourite time of the year again - it’s run by the children for the children and Mr Legion has put in a request for a sun shiny day! Spring Fair notices went home last week with the list of activities/stalls and order form for either a hot dog or an iced finger bun and drink or both! Please make sure the orders are back by Friday 23rd November.

If any parents are available on the 28th to help with cooking and serving the hot dogs, it would be much appreciated! No experience necessary! Please let Mr Legione know if you can assist us.

Don’t forget to - make a showbag - make a mystery jar - bring trash ‘n treasure - bring books - order your hot dogs - order your finger bun/drink

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GO!!!

It has been a week filled with art, crafts and cricket at Bimbadeen OSHC! This week, children have enjoyed creating their own Rainbow Fish. Children have used buttons, poms poms, sequins, streamers and textas to create a fish as unique as them! This has allowed children to exercise their crea-tivity, while practicing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Outside, children have been enjoying team-based games, including cricket and basketball. They have been working together to decide on some ground rules, especially during cricket matches. Children have been helping each other with taking turns, as well as with their batting, bowling and fielding. Through this, children are developing their spatial awareness, as well as their fine and gross motor skills. They are also practicing notions of inclusivity, fairness and kindness to others. Next week, we are looking forward to some Christmas craft! We have Santa finger puppets planned, as well as Christmas banners. We are also looking forward to some timed obstacle courses, something the children have been experimenting with over the past few weeks. We hope to see you here!

With thanks, Lauren, Sarah and Ella.
