Holmes © Copyright C&W Hospital, July 2006 During the procedure - Cont. The catheter will then be fixed to your skin surface and attached to a drainage bag. We will explain what is happening throughout the procedure. The procedure usually takes about an hour, but may take longer. In some cases, a stent may be placed across the blockage to open it. If this is done, a temporary catheter may be left in place with a drainage bag attached. Following the Procedure You will go back to the ward where your nurse will record your pulse and blood pressure as well as check the catheter regularly. You will stay in bed for a couple of hours until you have recovered. If you feel unwell at any time, please tell your nurse. How long will the catheter stay in? Only your specialist doctor looking after you can answer this question. You will be reviewed regularly and the best treatment will be decided by your doctor depending on your condition each day.
