With a long history of heavy industry, the city is now characterized by the works of many talented and world-renowned architects. While Canadian architect Frank Gehry’s famous Guggenheim Museum remains a modern structural marvel and attracts millions of visitors from around the globe each year, there are numerous other museums that this city presents that are not to be missed. Head into the Old Quarter; Bilbao’s 700-year-old city center that was once the scene of the city’s commercial and port activities. The area is now a pedestrian precinct lined with numerous shops and fantastic restaurants. On June 29, join the city as it celebrates the Renaissance Church of San Pedro with various activities, local cuisine, and outdoor concerts. ISE will offer a shuttle on June 29 to the nearby town of Sopelana so that students may enjoy the festivities. Lush, green mountains provide a lovely backdrop to the city, as well as the Nervion River that runs through Bilbao. Stroll across the many bridges that connect the city, each one with a unique architectural design. Walk up and down the banks of the river, or catch a Bilboat to tour the city by boat. Bilbao is the industrial and financial
capital of the Basque country. The
Romans, who discovered iron ore
mines along the Nervion River which
cuts through Bilbao, built numerous
foundries on the banks of the river
which today are undergoing
spectacular transformations and
renovations.
This tour explores Bilbao's Old Quarter with its famous narrow 'seven
streets', interesting architecture and Medieval heart; providing a stark
contrast to the ultra-modern and visually striking Guggenheim Museum,
which opened in 1997. The building and its remarkable structure are
rivaled by the contents of its galleries.

BIL 104-101 AMAZING VOYAGE: PHOTO RALLY Half Day
Discover the vast artistic wealth and history of the city of Bilbao through
the art of photography on this “city orientation” with a competitive twist!
Divided into teams of
five people, each team
will be given a camera
and some basic
photography instruction.
Teams will be given
clues from where they
will go about the city on
foot, by bus, and by
underground to capture
the required photos, earning points for each photo taken. Participants will
have a total of 90 minutes to complete this adventure before returning.
Teams will then meet up for tapas lunch where pictures and awards will
be distributed.

The Pyrenees is the
large mountain range
which separates
northern Spain from
the rest of Europe. This
450 km range of
mountains stretches
from the Bay of Biscay
to the Mediterranean
Sea. The mountains
are full of forests and
valleys just waiting to be explored. It is also a hub for adventure sports,
such as whitewater rafting and canyoning. Are you ready to discover all that the Pyrenees has to offer?
-White Water Rafting: A guided whitewater rafting adventure with a
range of rapids.
-Canyoning: Descend into the natural canyons on this guided tour
which combines mountaineering with swimming and climbing. Are you

Calling all animal lovers: This recovery center serves as a shelter for
endangered wild fauna of the main species found in the Urdabai UNESCO
Biosphere Reserve area. With oak forests laying just meters from rich
aquatic vegetation, the wild animal center is full of environmental
diversity. During your visit, you will be assisting the staff in various tasks,
such as gardening and ground maintenance. You will
spend 2.5 hours at the recovery center, with an hour
of transportation each way.

BIL 111-401 PAMPLONA Full Day
The city of Pamplona has more to
offer than its famed Fiesta de San
Fermin and the encierro (running of
the bulls) that takes place early July.
The capital city of the Navarre region
is lined with cobble stone streets
and remnants of its medieval past.
Starting at La Magdalena Bridge,
enter into the walls of the old city
and explore the many beautiful and historic buildings, such as the church-
fortresses of San Nicolas and San Saturnino, as well as the Museum of
Navarre and the Palace of the Kings of Navarre, which is home to the
General archives of Navarre. Not to be missed are the Chapel of San
Fermin, as well as the Plaza del Castillo, located at the heart of the city.

Travel from the port of Bilbao to the inland,
Rioja wine region. This is a wonderful,
unique experience if you’re an enthusiast in
wine and food.
The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España
(CVNE) was created in Haro,La Rioja, Spain,
in 1879. The museum is located on land belonging to the family of the
writer of fables, Samaniego. The Centre, equipped with the latest
technological systems, occupies a surface area of 2400 sq m.
The museum contains exhibits that set out the history and rituals of wine
in an enjoyable manner: audiovisual effects, virtual testing of the aroma
of wine, mockups, etc. It is surrounded by a botanical garden with shrubs and spices brought here from all over the
world. After visiting we drive across the vineyards and will take a guided walking at the Laguardia Wine Center.
