    Physical Infrastructure

    While power generation is receiving continuous boost from time to time, power transmission isefficiently managed by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited.

    In terms of generation, Alamatti Dam in Bijapur district produces 290MW of electricityannually.

    Further boost to be provided by NTPCs 4000 MW supercritical coal based thermal power plantat Kudgi, Bijapur DistrictPOWER

    Krishna, Doni and Bhima are the rivers in district

    Apart from the existing rivers and rainfall, the district has extensive irrigation system usinggroundwater, groundwater from reservoirs, canals, etc.

    However, in terms of drinking water, there is a shortage of water in the district.WATER

    Bijapur has 2323 primary schools, 344 High schools & 116 Pre-university colleges.

    In higher education segment, the district has 59 general colleges, 2 medical colleges, 3engineering colleges, 1 dental college and 4 polytechnics.

    The district represents a higher interest in education with 205 libraries.

    EDUCATION

    Bijapur has 62 primary health centres along with 8 Government and 72 privately operatedhospitals.

    Dispensaries and drug shops are also available in plenty in the district.

    The district has been a centre for various healthcare initiatives at Government level likeTuberculosis control programme, malaria eradication programme, leprosy control programme,etc.HOSPITAL
