Soprano Pineapple Ukulele
Soprano Pineapple Ukulele
Cutting the Cedar TopI made this ukulele with a cedar top cut from this log. It gives the instrument a smooth, mellow tone.
Body JigThis is the jig I made to build this ukulele and let the sides set after bending them.
Hot Iron This is what people use to bend sides when they have smaller scale operations. It is not much to look at, but it does wonders!
Sides in the JigThis is after bending the sides, and gluing one side of Kerfling on. (Which is what helps hold the top and back on)
Top and RosetteIsn't it amazing this beautiful top came from that ugly log. I added this nice rosette around the sound hole to add some flare.
Back and BracesHere I am chiseling away at the back braces on the mahogany back.
Back being AttachedThe back being glued on to the sides. A lot of clamps and rubber bands!
Back and SidesAfter the marriage of the back and sides, it is beginning to come together.
Gluing the Braces on the Sound BoardI bet you didn’t think so many clamps could fit on such a small space.
Top BracesThe braces after being filed, chiseled, and sanded. I beefed up the braces on this one since cedar tends to be a little more brittle than spruce or mahogany.
Top being AttachedCedar top finally meeting the mahogany sides and back.
Binding and CleaningI cut the sides down, and binded them in white trim. I thought the white trim accented the cedar better than black would.
Neck CuttingRough cut of the neck before I started smoothing it down.
Rear ViewSame cut, different angle.
Fret Board BeginningsStarting to cut the slots in the fret board. I decided to use mahogany as the fret board as opposed to rose wood. Mahogany just fit the look better.
Cut and FrettedFinal shape of the fret board with all of the frets installed.
Body and NeckAttaching the neck to the body. Its starting to get near completion.
Front View
Back ViewThe mahogany has some nice curls that give it a very cool look.
