Dorothea Bauma nn studied music at the Zurich Academ y of Music ,

and m us icol ogy , physics an d co ntemporary German literature at t h e

University o f Zur ich . Since 1976 she h as tau ght at the Un iver sit y of

Zurich as an associate lectu rer and as a gue st lecturer at th e Unive r

s ity of Bern fro m 1979 to 1993. In 1987 sh e was a visiting professor at

th e Gradua te Cen tre of t he City Unive rsi ty of New York, in 1998 at the

Unive rs ity of In n sbru ck,Aus tria. She ha s lectured on nu merous topics

and pub lish ed widely on interdisciplinary su bject s related to histori cal

and system at ic musicology . Her specialist fields in clude the acou stic of

spaces, musical acoustics, music psychology and the practice of musical

performance.

Born in 1971 in Esfahan , Ira n , Neg a r Hakim s tud ied h istory of a rt at

t he Un ive rs it y o f Vien na, co mpleti ng he r doctorate in 2007 on the

development of m od ern architecture in Iran in the second h alf of the

zoth century. In Vien na she has co-cu rated exhibitions on topic s in th e

field of art an d architectu re. She is act ively invo lved in cult ural ma n age

ment and cultural transfer between Iran and Euro pe, not least through

the organ isati on of art exc h an ges . Sin ce 2003 she is co-editor of the

Iranian architecture magazine "Mernar", in which she has published

numerous articles.She is particularly interested in the tension between

tradition and modern it y and the se arc h for a specific cont em po ra ry

langu age of archi tecture in the Islamic nations.

Roman HaUenstein

Born in 1953.Roman Hollenstein received his doctora te from the Uni

ve rsit y of Bern in 1983 on the adoption of Greece in earl y 19th century

art. He has worked as a research assistant fo r th e Private Collec tions

of the Prince ofLiech te nstein in Vadu z and Vienna, and held t each

ing positions, lect u ring am ong oth er thi ngs on the history of art and

architecture at Zurich College of Art and Design. From 1987 t o 1990 he

led the depa rtment of art h istory at th e Swiss Ins ti tu te for Art Researc h

in Zuri ch , before becoming a member of th e editing board of th e Neue

Zurcher Zeitung. Here he int roduced th e art trade su pp lem ent and ex

pa nded th e arch itecture su pplement. His primary expe rtise is in Swiss

and international con temporaryart and architecture. He is especia lly

interested in synagogue archite ctureand architecture in Israel.

Eva-Maria Kreuz

Eva-Maria Kreuz stu die d architecture at Berlin Technica l University

Christina Niederstatter

Christina Nieders tatter studied arch ite cture in Innsbruck an d Ven ice

as well as music at t he Conservat orio Clau dio Monteverdi in Bolza no

and the Conserva to rio in Cu neo/Tu rin . Her main ins trument is the

flute. She has taug ht mus ic in seve ral schools in th e Alto Adige re

gion. In 1989 sh e was awarded a sc ho la rship and be gan to specialise

in acoustics . At Eindhoven Technic al Universit y she investigated the

relatio nship between archi tectur e and acoust ics , and stu died spatial

acou stics at the Universi ty of Bern. In 2003 . she beca me a member

o f the "committee for the development ofguidelines fo r the design

Rudolf Stegers

Born in '952, Rudolf Stegers st u died Germa n Literatur e and Romance

langu age and literature at Munster Un ive rsity an d the Freie Un iver

sitat in Berlin, com plet ing the sta te exa mination for secondary school

teachers in 1982. Between 1978 and 1988 h e worked as an edi to r, first

for "Werk und Zeit" , published by the Deut sche Werkbund , later for th e

magazine "Asthetik und Kommunikation". He now works as a freelance

ed itor and critic in t he fie ld of a rchi tecture, focu sing during th e '990S

on Berlin in particular.He has condu cted research into aspects of archi

tecture and design for exhibitions in Berlin , Essen an d Potsdam and,

togeth er with Romana Schn eide r, curated th e exhi bit ion "Glu ck Sta dt

Rau rn" at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 2000 he published a m ono

graph on Rudolf Schwarz.
