ABSTRACT

The main objective of a good production line is to handle the material

which should undergo different stages of production techniques so as to produce a

good product which is packed in a good and quality package. The main aim of the

production lines is to handle the product to the production line , assemble different

parts or components of the product in a sequential procedure and prepare the end

product for the packaging. These production lines are made such that the material

are put together in an sequential steps to make the final product. There are different

types of production line for different types of materials, but mostly they are same

with minor changes which require for different materials. This report describes

how a plastic bottle is handled to the production line and package the water bottle

into the carton.

INTRODUCTION

Over the years there are huge changes in production of a product. The

materials are handled by manpower before the introduction of the automated

machines for the production line. Each step in the production line were done by

manpower by placing the material on the conveyer, assembling the different parts

to the material to final packaging. This led to more time in producing the final

product and cost. Then over the years the handling has been changed and

automated production machines have been introduced and the cost and time in

producing the product became less. In this report we discuss how the bottle is

handled in the production line and packed. We use the plastic bottles of 8oz , and

the cost of equipment is also discussed.

HANDLING OF PLASTIC BOTTLE ONTO

PRODUCTION LINE

The first and main part in this study is the plastic bottle. the plastic bottles

are made in a blow moulding machine. The first step in production line of

packaged water bottle is the blow moulding. In this we use CM-A4 blow moulding

machine. This machine is fully automatic blow moulding machine which is

suitable for different sizes and shapes of bottles. The bottles made with this

machine are widely used in bottling industries. The plastic resin is inserted into the

mould cavity and it is closed. Hot air is blown into the mould so that the plastic

resin attains the final bottle shape. Then it is taken out and held by the rotating

head conveyers which rotate in circular region and the cool air cools the bottle.

03

Then the final bottles are fed out of the blow moulding machine with the head

conveyer belt which holds the neck of the bottles.

04

They are picked up by a rotating picker with number of heads and rotates the bottle

and places them on the other side of the production line.

The final plastic bottles are then held by a rotating air conveyer which lifts the

bottle and moves it to the filling line and places it safely on the conveyer belt

where the bottles are then moved to filling station. The air conveyer which lifts the

bottle has moving jaws and links to move the bottle in angles.

PACKAGING

Packaging is the final step in the whole production line. The water bottles after

filling and labeling enter to the packaging line. In this line the bottles are lined up

by entering the lanes which align the bottles in a line so to make the packaging

easy. The machine we use in this packaging is casepak5000. This is a automatic

packaging machine which accumulates, counts and packs the bottles in preset

configuration.

This machine sets up the count as 6x6, 6x4, 2x3 and many more combinations.

The lined up bottles enter on to a platform where the bottles are picked up by a

lifter which is equipped with suction holders and they are placed into the carton

boxes. With the pre settings of speed 2-3 cases of 24 bottles are made per minute.

IMPROVEMENT

Improvements to the packaging can be made by using the automatic carton box

maker without using the manpower. The cost and time reduces more in production,

and by using air conveyers throughout the production line can save the lifting of

the bottles and placing them on to the fixed conveyers. And the cost can be

reduced by using plastic wrappers in the packaging in place of cartons.

CONCLUSION

According to the report the analysis of the different steps involved in

handling of the plastic bottle onto the production line and the detailed procedure on

how the plastic bottles filled with water are packed in a carton is discussed.
