Swachha Bharat Mission

As per the directions given by University Grants Commission on Swachha Bharat

Mission in letter dated 16th August 2018, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was

enthusiastically observed in Bharati Vidyapeeth (DTU) Medical College, Pune.

Swachh Bharat Mission aims to achieve a clean India by the 150th Birth Anniversary

of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019. To make swachhta a part of education and in order to

bring about behavioural changes in the medical college students, Swachh Bharat

Abhiyan was observed in Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College from 15th September

to 2nd October 2019. Dr (Mrs.) Varsha M. Vaidya, Professor, Department of

Community Medicine was coordinator of the programme.

Awareness Programme among Medical College students.

The Abhiyan was started by orientation of medical college students about Swachha

Bharat Mission by Dr. Varsha M. Vaidya. Professor, Department of Community

Medicine.

Meeting with Vice Principal for Action plan of Swachhta Abhiyan in

Bharati Vidyapeeth (DTU) Medical College Campus.

Students were encouraged to prepare an action plan for various activities in Medical

College during Abhiyan. A meeting was arranged with the vice principal, Dr.

Karmarkar to share this action plan for Abhiyan activities in medical college

campus.

Cleaning Drive in the Medical college campus

On 15th September, students of second year along with the faculty cleaned the area

around the library with enthusiasm. Every student who was the part of the Swachha

Bharat Abhiyan participated in the drive and put their best efforts in it. The faculty

guided the students and the importance of proper disposal of used tea cups, soft drink

bottles and cartons of packed food material was explained to the students.

Students were given small projects like canteen inspection, Swachhata rally and

Swachh awareness drive.

Canteen Inspection: Canteen inspection of medical college canteen was carried out

by students based on the proforma provided by the Department of Community

Medicine.

Swachhata Rally & Health Awareness near Ganesh Idol Visarjan

Swachhata rally was arranged by the students to spreads messages for segregation

of household waste, peri-domestic cleanliness to prevent mosquitoes breeding, not

to litter and spit on roads and improving public and personal hygiene. Awareness

drive was arranged at the time of Ganpati idol emersion on 17th September 2018.

Swachhata Marathon

Swachhata Marathon was held

for faculty and students on 2nd

October 2018. A 10 km, 5km and

3Km route was planned.

attention of general public

emphasing importance of

cleanliness for maintaining

Celebration of Swachhata Divas

October 2, 2018 was celebrated as Swachhata Divas with great enthusiasm in Bharati

Vidyapeeth (DTU) Medical College. Many students and teachers participated in the

Swachhta Marathon arranged in the morning. Swachhata Pledge was the main event

in the afternoon. Dr. Shilpa Narayanan, daughter of Late Padmashri Doctor

Mhapuskar, was the Chief Guest of this event. Dr. Shilpa Narayanan delivered a

lecture on ‘Importance of sanitation in rural health’. The event was attended by

Principal Dr. N. S. Mani, Vice-Principal, Dr. Karmarkar , Dr. Jayashree Gothankar

,Head of the Department of Community Medicine and a large number of students,

teaching and non-teaching staff. Principal and Vice-Principal gave away prizes to

the winners of Swachhata Marathon and also felicitated all house-keeping staff. A

Skit presented by second year students of the Medical College turned out to be the

main attraction of this event. Principal Dr. N. S. Mani administered Swachhata

pledge to all students, teaching and non-teaching staff. The entire program was

arranged and compered by Dr. Varsha Vaidya, Professor, Department of Community

Medicine.

Prize Distribution of swachha Marathon winners

Prizes to swachh marathon winners were distributed on swachta divas function by

Principal Brig.Dr.N.S.Mani and Vice Principal Dr.Mandar Karmarkar.

Felicitation of Housekeeping staff

It is because of efforts of housekeeping staff everyday cleanliness in the

campus is maintained. To appreciate their efforts housekeeping staff of

Medical college campus was felicitated by Principal, Dr. N S Mani and

Vice Principal Dr. Karmarkar.

Skit

Third semester students presented a skit on awareness regarding

elimination of mosquito breeding places and improving hand hygiene

and personal hygiene. The skit was appreciated by all.
