What is Beyond the PPL?•Its the opportunity to make the most of your hard earned Private pilots Licence

Its the opportunity for qualified PPLs to fly together, learn together and grow together

•Westair will provide a framework to help YOU take YOUR flying forward• The framework will include exposure to like minded PPLs• Some website tools and resources – suggested routes, a forum for organising and sharing ideas• Some optional bolt on training modules and taster sessions

•But this is about YOU and YOUR flying. We need you• To share thoughts and ideas• To work with like minded PPLs• To tell us what you need – training, aircraft, support• And to use what we provide in support• But above all YOU need to work together, stretch your horizons, and GO FLYING !

“Stick Buddies” – Speed dating for PPLs!Getting to know each other! Please complete the form in front of you, giving an insight into your age, experience, aviation qualifications, and contact details.

The forms will be pinned to the wall, and over the buffet and a drink, please have a look at the forms and talk to each other.

Make a note of contact details, and pair up now or later for subsequent trips.

Its not a marriage – you can and should fly with more than one partner, and no-one should be offended by the fact that you have multiple flying partners.

IN CONFIDENCE – contact details are confidential: so are any minor errors in the cockpit ! We need to learn and grow together without fear of embarrassment.

Flying Together and working as a team

•P1’s decision to determine what tasks P2 will perform for a given flight leg. •P1 is accountable at all times, even for tasks looked after by P2. •They may or may not include• radio calls• Navaid tuning and management• Navigation and managing the plog• In flight entertainment!

•Look out of the window and always call out other aircraft.•If P1 hands control of the aircraft to P2 during flight be clear on ‘You Have Control’•Be honest and open with each other, and help each other to correct & improve. All questions and criticisms must be constructive and supportive or you will soon be flying on your own!

Training modulesAll the events below can be tailored to individual levels of experience and need. Please discuss your requirements with our instructors and book training slots as required.•Currency and check out on C172 – we recommend this for everyone on Beyond the PPL

•Night flying (Note: as daylight hours are getting longer to do the course now needs to be intense(ish) training.)

•Instrument Flying: & the IMC Rating• Practical introduction to IMC flying

• Basic general handling• Brief introduction to VORs and NDBs• Vectors (QDMs, vectors and SRAs) & the ILS

• Practice with a safety pilot (explaining the rules)

•Cross Country Navigation•Short Field landing

Evening Tutorials•A series of evening tutorials are outlined below as a suggestion for a series of 2 hour evening presentations and discussions. Please comment and agree on a priority order and add any others you may wish to see.

•There may be a small charge for these events to cover refreshments and costs for the individual hosting the session.

•Events will probably take place once a month.

•Suggested Topics include:• Advanced flight planning and GPS usage• Multicrew cooperation & how to work as a team in the cockpit • A practical guide to IMC flying• Long distance touring in the UK• Flying abroad – It’s easier than you think

Duxford

• Location: Cambridge• Flight time: 1:45h each way• What’s there: The Imperial War Museum! An amazing place to visit if you like aircraft. Check their website for events and airshows.

•Location: Shropshire•Flight time: 1 hr•What’s there: great first floor cafe, lots of GA aircraft, a great atmosphere.

•Location: Northampton•Flight time: 1:30 hrs•What’s there: Grass & tarmac runways,•Great cafe with balcony views of airfield, lots of GA coming and going, Blades aero team train there.•Aero Expo 29-31 May 2015•LAA Rally 4 – 6 Sept 2015.•Use as departure point for France ?

• Location: North West Wales• Flight time: 1h 15• What’s there: Lovely beaches, walks, lunches

Welshpool

•Location: East Wales•Flight time: 1 hour•What’s there: not much !, but its an interesting approach as circuit at 1500’ just before you descend into the valley.

WW Non-equity scheme

•Monthly rate:£120.•Hourly rate: £90 and landings at standard rate.•No Joining or leaving fees, and No Minimum Usage.•Notice Period : 6 months, with 6 months paid in advance.•Booking via members website, with priority to Non Equity members.•A maximum of 15 members will be accepted to maintain monthly availability.•Westair Flying School will book use of the aircraft as a syndicate member though may book vacant slots for training up to 7 days ahead.•Currency and flying limits will be as per standard Westair Flying Order Book.•Check rides and training available in G-BJWW at standard Westair instructor rates.
