The 'strategicenvironmentalappraisal' (SEA) reportproduced by DECCoutlined a scenariofor the 14th RoundPEDL licences.
What the report considered was onlya superficial set ofenvironmental impactparameters...
There are manyignored issues...here's one:
If we use the SEAdata, and then addinformation for thelikely effluent quality,it is possible tocalculate the levelsof waste generationomitted from theSEA report.
There are manyignored issues...here's one:
There are manyignored issues...here's one:The Government usesa higher gas productionper well compared toUS data. On the SEA's figures only 0.5% to 10% of the resourceis produced; morerealistic data would indicate 0.2% to 4%.
These new figures represent a 2½ timesincrease – but may betwo or four times morewith higher recovery.
The Mackay-Stone report:
The Government justifies the “lowcarbon” qualities ofshale gas withreference to DECC's2013 report, Potential Greenhouse Gas Emissions Associated with Shale Gas Extraction and Use.
Question is,are the data and assumptions in thereport valid?
Mackay & Stone's results are arguably one quarter of the values produced when using more representative data.
Their calculationsare correct – it's the statistics they use which are questionable.

beyondtechnology...
beyondstatistics...
– at the political framework within which this evidenceis considered.

“Consultations, impact assessments, audits, reviews, stakeholder management.this is not how we became one of the most powerful, prosperous nations on earth. So I am determined to change this. Here’s how:● Cutting back on judicial reviews.● Reducing government consultations.● Streamlining European legislation.● Stopping the gold-plating of legislation at home. When this country was at war in the 40s, Whitehall underwent a revolution. Normal rules were circumvented. Convention was thrown out. Well, this country is in the economic equivalent of war today - and we need the same spirit. We need to forget about crossing every ‘t’ and dotting every ‘i’ and we need to throw everything we’ve got at winning in this global race.”
'Extreme politics'
David Cameron's speech to the CBI – 19th November 2012
When “there is no alternative”, when we are in “the economic equivalent of war”, any level of dissent is by its nature a threat to “business as usual”
We are entering a time when even well-foundedWe are entering a time when even well-foundedobjections are no longer valid if they cast objections are no longer valid if they cast
doubt upon the over-riding goal of economic doubt upon the over-riding goal of economic growth at all costsgrowth at all costs
