It is an exciting time of the year as we meet our new Reception students next week and families for assessments. It is a reminder that we are preparing for 2017.

Emily McCann has been organising home visits for our Early Learning Centre families and I look forward to seeing how this new exciting venture unfolds. The building is coming along well and the Nature Play garden will be an amazing addition as an outdoor learn-ing area. I have had the opportunity to conduct an Action Research into the Early Years Learning Framework and how we connect our Bethany Values with this National curriculum. In my reading and research I have been very encouraged with the way that this curriculum con-nects with our Christian worldview and brings student learning to the centre of teachers thinking. Emily has included a short introduction in this newsletter edition so please feel free to say hello and welcome her to our community.

The End of Year Concert ticket booking are going extremely well and I thank those parents who have given us good feedback about how much this has improved the booking process. We continue to look at improvement right across our school. The classes have been rehearsing very hard and I look forward to seeing it all come together.

Teachers are currently writing academic reports and I look forward to reading about how much students have pro-gressed in 2016. I am always encour-aged by the way that children learn and this year we have certainly seen that to

The Mini Olympics last Friday was a fantastic day with many parents, grandparents and friends coming along to support our Reception and Year 1 students.The overall tone of the day was won-derfully encouraging and I would like to thank the PE and other staff who did a fabulous job in preparing for the day. Also, thank you to all of those who came along to cheer on our students. A big congratulations to our students who did their best and enjoyed running, jumping and throwing events.

DEPUTY'S CORNER

From The Deputy

It was not until people had started counting down the days and not the weeks to Christmas that I realised how fast time has actually flown by this term!

Mini Olympics, Disco, Year 6 Garage Sale!

Three really big events have already taken place in the past fortnight which have been highly successful; Mini Olym-pics, the Year 6 Garage Sale and the P&F Disco. All three events were very well attended, with the Year 6’s raising over $2000 which will go towards supporting the House of Hope. All the Reception and Year 1 students had an enormous fun at the Mini Olympics, with the weather finally behaving itself, bringing perfect conditions for all that physical activity outside! Everyone who attended the Disco had a wonderful time, with the DJ’s reporting that they had never

played for such a well behaved and po-lite group of students before! Well done Bethany students!

Whooping Cough

There has been one confirmed case of whooping cough at school. A letter was sent home with the students in this class to notify parents. As a precaution we would ask that you watch out for the symptoms of whooping cough (pertus-sis) in your children. Symptoms include a cold with a blocked or runny nose, lethargy, mild fever and a cough. As it progresses, the cough gets worse which sounds like a ‘whooping’ sound. It may last for weeks and it may get worse at night. The best prevention for whooping cough is immunisation. Keep in mind, however, even immunised children can still catch a mutated strain. If this is the case, you will still need to see a GP for

treatment. If your child has contracted whooping cough, please let the school know as soon as possible as your child will need to be safely kept at home until the course of antibiotics has had it chance to work. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to speak to our school nurse, Mrs Priya Wilson or refer to SA Health (http://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au).

Hello to families and staff who haven't yet met me! My name is Emily McCann, I am very exited to join the Bethany Chris-tian School team as the ELC Director. I have a Bachelors degree in Early child-hood and I am currently undertaking my Masters of Education in Leadership and Management.

I have a cat called Maeko and two rab-bits who are brother and sister named Audrey and Alfie. The rabbits will join me at Bethany next year as ELC pets which I’m sure the children will be very excited about.

In my spare time I love to play basket-ball, ride my bike and play the guitar. I am looking forward to meeting all the Bethany Christian School families please feel free to say hello and ask any ques-tions my door is always open.

Upper Primary Concert

TERM 4 HIGHLIGHTS

This year’s Upper Primary Concert “Immanuel, God with us” is an amazing modern interpretation of the nativity story. Featuring dance, drama, song and cinematography that bring this spectac-ular story to life on the stage.

Tickets are available from Eventbrite.com and will be available right up until the event has started, but it may sell out. Up-per Primary Parents will have a week to book first preference tickets, next week we will open ticketing up to the wider school community via email.

You will have the opportunity to order up to 8 tickets for 1 of the Upper Primary Concerts. Please only book the amount of seats you actually need. There are 2 evening shows this year, only book tickets for 1 of the 2 shows until further notice (if extra tickets are available). You

may order tickets for your JP Bethany children to attend the show with you due to the extra seating available.

Please be aware that your children performing on the evening will need to be dropped at their classroom at 4:15pm and will stay with their class for a school provided dinner. Children will then be picked up after the last show from their classrooms at 9pm.

Food will be available for parents and visitors to buy and eat in between shows.

Booking tickets on a mobile device will give you the best available seats, how-ever if you would prefer to choose your seats you will need to do so on a desktop computer or a laptop.

There is no wheelchair access for balco-

ny seating so please book accessibility seating if wheelchair access is required.

This is a closed school event so please do not share on social media.

On Monday we went to the Toy Man. His name was Allan. We played with dominoes and Battleships. We threw a ball into a hole in a rocket ship. Some toys roll, slide, were pushed and pulled. I played with the musical instruments. Some toys have an axle on the bottom of

the toys and the axle made the toy move up and down and in and out.

On Monday, Allan the Toy Man visited us. We played Battleships and there were puppets. We tried to get the rings on the

nails and played dominoes. We tried to get the balls in the clowns mouth and the frogs to move. We were seeing how toys can move by pushing and pulling them.

This event was held across two days at the SA Athletics Stadium. The country and para athletes competed on Monday 26th September and the metro day was held on Tuesday 27th September.

We would like to congratulate Courtney Howard for winning three state medals in the Para Ath-letes division. Courtney received two silver medals for the 100 metres and the Shot Put. In the Discus event she went on to win a bronze medal. We are so proud of you Courtney!

We would like to congratulate Broady Roberts on his selection to the Para Districts cricket team. The state carnival is being played across Adelaide at various grounds from the 21st to 24th Novem-ber, 2016. The Para Districts team will be playing in Division 5 with eight teams competing. We wish Broady and the Para Districts cricket team all the very best.

On Wednesday September 21st Bethany entered two teams into the year 4/5 SACSA Soccer Carnival. We would like to con-gratulate the girls’ team for making the semi-finals and the boys’ team for winning the grand final against Tyndale. It was a fantastic day for Bethany!

On Friday 23rd September our boys and girls 6/7 soccer teams played in the SACSA Soccer Competition at West Beach. There were 10 teams in the girls’ competition and 13 teams in the boys. It was a high skilled affair with plenty of soccer skills on show for all to see.
