Let’s Look at what we’ve got
(Getting the Wow factorinto your Class Website)
Best Practices for iModules Websites
Updating the Collegeemail security policy
I have suggested that:· The relationship between members of each class
is a special case· Classmates should be able to exchange emails
directly and easily to encourage and facilitate that special relationship.
· College should provision a page listing classmates names with ability to click to send an email
Best Practices for iModules Websites
Conditions for allowingdirect Email to Classmates
· Contact information are be secured by College login · Display prevents users from making a bulk copy of email
addresses· Opt-out flag in their College profile to prevent their email
address from be shared with classmates · A letter will go out to all alums notifying new policy with a
link to profile flag to opt-out
Confidentiality and Restrictionson use of email addresses
· Classmates who wish to access the list must first read and agree to the College policy
· Restrictions on use of email addresses should be written in plain, simple and brief language that can be read and understood
Statement defines the terms of use
Useless unless read and understood
The College has agreed
· The College will build a new page displaying a list of classmates with the ability to click and email directly to any classmate
· It will use the actual email address and your email system – not a redirected form You will get bounce-backs and non-delivery notices
· Email addresses will come directly from the College database in real time
When will it be done?
· We hope to have a working version out in 8-10 weeks
· This is a bold, ambitious decision
· The first version might be imperfect and continued effort will be made to deal with improvements from what we learn
