LALA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLLALA, PAGADIAN CITY

THE SCHOOL’S BEST PRACTICE:

Barangay Lala is one of the developing barangays in Pagadian City that needs assistance particularly in finances. Mostly of the parents depend only on some crops that are seasonal in nature, the very reason why most of the children were not sent to school despite of the fact that both elementary and secondary education are given free by our government.

LNHS administrators consider this fact and try to find ways and means to help the impoverishedfamilies to augment their family income even in a meager way we could help.

The attendance of the LNHS Career Advocate’s Mrs. Myrla D. Lumacang, opened the way, it was learned during the seminar that students could be employed in DOLE’s SPES (Special Program for Employment of Students.)

Now, what is SPES?

SPES is a Special Program for Employment of Students mandated under Republic Act No. 9547 otherwise known as "An Act To Help Poor But Deserving Students Pursue Their Education By Encouraging Their Employment During Summer and/or Christmas Vacations, Through Incentives Granted to Employers, Allowing Them to Pay Only Sixty Per Centum of Their Salaries or Wages and The Forty Per Centum Through Education Vouchers To Be Paid By the Government, Prohibiting and Penalizing The Filing of Fraudulent and Fictitious Claims, and For Other Purposes", Under this law, the Secretary of Labor and Employment is designated Program Director of the SPES.

The objective of the SPES is to develop the intellectual capacities of children of poor families and harness their potentials for the country's wellbeing. Specifically, the Program aims to help poor but deserving students pursue their education by providing income or augment their income through encouraging their employment during summer and/or Christmas vacations.

The SPES is open to all qualified high school, college or vocational students or drop-outs and interested employers.

With these information, it was immediately delegated to the principal and to the class advisers to find the poor but deserving students in school and enrolled them in SPES, the work was done during summer April – May, 2014.

The SPES checks finally arrived last August 29, 2014 with much delight and gratitude of the students, it was gladly welcome as shown in the pictures being attached in this Best Practice Narratives.

We consider this as our Best Practice in school for the reason that even in its meager way, we were able to help the students (thanks to SPES of the DOLE) and the parents augment their income.

As of this year, LNHS had already submitted Pledge of Commitment to the DOLE for employment this summer April and May, 2015. This is an all year round employment program.
