STAR TESTING
Dear Parents,As you know, each spring students in California are given a series of tests to assess their academicprogress. The tests are aligned to the California Content Standards in language arts, mathematicsand for fifth grade students, science. Individual results are reported to parents in the fall.We will begin our STAR Testing on Tuesday, May io". Tests will be given on Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays, using Mondays and Fridays for make-ups. The testing will continuethrough May 2ih. Your child needs to be present at school every day during the testing period. Wewill begin testing by 8:30 each morning and on most days should be completed by 10:30. I wouldappreciate your cooperation in not scheduling doctor appointments during this time. Students willtake make-up tests if they are absent, but they tend to perform better when the test is given by theirteacher in their class.Teachers are providing many strategies that will reduce test anxiety and support students in doingwell. However, some students do become anxious in a testing situation. There are a few things youcan do to help: Remind your child that you love him/her no matter what. Encourage your child to do hislher Personal Best. Be sure your child is physically ready to put forth his/her best effort by making sure he/sheis well rested, eats a healthy breakfast, and has a healthy snack
Please remember that these tests are one measure of your child's performance. Though we want ourstudents to achieve and we acknowledge the impact of their test scores, what is most important isthe instruction, learning, and emotional development that takes place on a daily basis.Thank you for your cooperation during our testing window.Sincerely,

Prueba STAREstimadas familias,Como ya saben cada primavera se les da a los estudiantes en California una serie de pruebas paraevaluar su progreso academico. Las pruebas estan alineadas can el Contenido de los Estandares deCalifornia en lenguaje, matematicas y para los estudiantes del quinto grado, ciencia. En el otofio sereportan a los padres los resultados individuales.Empezaremos la prueba STAR en martes, lOde mayo. Las pruebas se daran los martes, miercoles yjueves, usando los lunes y viernes para recuperacion de las pruebas. Las pruebas continuaran hasta el27 de mayo. Su nifiofa) necesita estar presente en la escuela todos los dias durante este periodo depruebas. Empezaremos las pruebas a las 8:30 cada manana y la mayoria de los dias deberan decompletarse para las 10:30. Apreciaria su cooperacion para que no hagan citas can el doctor duranteeste tiempo. Los estudiantes recuperaran las pruebas si estan ausentes, pero ellos tienden a no rendirtan bien en las pruebas cuando la/el maestra( 0) les da la prueba en el salon.Los maestros proveeran muchas estrategias que reduciran la ansiedad y apoyaran a los estudiantes paraque rindan bien. Pero, algunos estudiantes se ponen ansiosos cuando toman pruebas. Hay algunascasas que ustedes pueden hacer: Recuerden a su ninota) que ustedes los quieren a ellos no importa que pase. Aliente a su nifio(a) para hacer 1 0 mejor que puede hacer personalmente. Esten seguros que su nifiofa) esta flsicamente preparado(a) para poner su mejor esfuerzo estando seguroque ell ella descanso bien, comic un desayuno nutritivo y tiene un bocado saludable
Por favor recuerden que estas pruebas son una medida del rendimiento de su nifio(a).
