1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tran- quil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 Prayer is a priority at Berea. As you sit in one of the 200 households that have received this newsletter, is that simple statement true of your life? For your family? Is prayer a priori- ty for you? While we have been studying the early church through the “A Year of Acts” ser- mon cycle, we have learned from their times of corporate prayer. On Wednesday nights we have attempted to mimic that vital focus by devoting a large portion of our “Bible Study” time to prayer. Prayer changes things. First of all, it changes our priorities and our focus about the worries of this world. Through a devotion to prayer we learn a bit of how God desires for us to be involved in His work in this world. Second, “prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of omnipotence.” What Spurgeon meant is that God’s infinite power is ready to work to bring His will to our world, but patiently waits to act as He desires His people to pray. On Wednesday nights we have been praying a lot. We have prayed for each other’s needs as we continue to receive and pray over our new yellow “Prayer Cards,” we have prayed for our Southern Baptist Military Chaplains, our Missionaries and specifically our fa- vorite missionary (M.E.) serving in Southeast Asia and most importantly we have prayed for Berea. Our great desire is to see God, “who wants everyone to be saved,” bring more into His kingdom as we seek after Him. Realizing there is such great power in our prayers let us all join to make prayer times a priority. Take time to pray over meals, before bed, in the morning, at church, at work, and on and on and on… and please continue (or start) to join us on Wednesday nights as we gath- er to seek God’s will through our joint prayer-life. Prayer is a priority at Berea. As you sit in one of the 200 households that have received
this newsletter, is that simple statement true of your life? For your family? Is prayer a priori-
ty for you? While we have been studying the early church through the “A Year of Acts” ser-
mon cycle, we have learned from their times of corporate prayer. On Wednesday nights we
have attempted to mimic that vital focus by devoting a large portion of our “Bible Study” time
to prayer.

From the people that brought #teamtrox: On a beautiful Sunday afternoon my
wife and I decided to take the family out on the river to do some kayaking.
Once everyone was in the water and situated I realized that there was a
problem, everyone was in a boat except me, and now I had to figure out how to
get from the dock into a moving kayak. My oldest son Stephen approached and
offered his assistance which I promptly declined out of pride and a desire, by
saying “I’ve got it”, to prove I can still get it done by myself. I eased the kayak
down into the water, and began to work myself off the dock and into the boat. Suddenly, the boat went
one way, I went the other, and with nothing on the dock to grab ahold of I was swimming instead of
kayaking.
Clearly it would have been much easier to get in the kayak if my son had held it steady but all too often
in life we don’t want to seem weak or like we need help. However the reality is that we all need help at
some point. Perhaps it’s just the help that a parent, coach or godly friend can offer, or perhaps it’s
something that can only be handled by our Lord and Savior. What we need to do is throw away our
pride and push past our stubborn nature and run into the arms of Jesus. He promises to be our
fortress in our time of need and to guide our very steps as we walk through life day by day. He is our
constant help just waiting for us to reach out and receive Him.
That day in the river the Lord looked after me, despite my foolish pride. I merely got wet and very cold,
but it could have been far worse. The question for you today is, what will it take for you to reach out to
Jesus for help, and will it be too late? Run to the Word, and check out Psalm 46:1-3!
1. What areas of your life do you struggle with, that would be easier to handle with someone by your
side?
2. What areas of your life would you identify as only something Jesus could help you with?
Don’t go through life alone! Seek out godly wisdom and insight from those who have been there, and
never forget to take it to the Lord in prayer and dive deep into his Word. Be in prayer for our World Changers Team June 25– July 2:
