Making it easier for people all over the world to get access to quality education if they have internet access.
Teachers can benefit by insight from other instructors on the subject they place in OER.
No need to recreate the wheel!

CONTROL – can more easily lose it!
No income or FTE considerations for the school.
Hard to track academic integrity
How does the student know that the subject being taught is actually correct information?
Lack of personal contact with instructors
As with any online education, this can be a problem – though, no reason to dismiss this form of education at all.
Are academic authors just going to give their books away – FREE?
