Diana shares, “Because of the House, Camden’s older brother and younger sister are able to stay with us. They are close siblings so it was therapeutic to have them with us. Camden loves pet therapy and playing with the other kids. I love being able to meet families—I’ve even met three other families whose children had the same diagnosis which brings me comfort and helps me know what to expect. The House helps us feel more at home, especially over the holidays with all of the decorations, activities and amazing meals. The House gives you a breath of air when you forget that you even need one.” The Planning Committee Craig Adler Barri Beckman Baurer Cliff Berman Lisa Bloom Billings Richard Catanese Barrie Essner Neil Gelb Robert Krensel Chuck Lusen Abby Nelson Marc Nelson Rob Nelson Michael Riley Susan Shepp Rush Benefiting the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald Houses Schedule - Rain or Shine 11:00 AM Registration 11:30 AM Lunch Buffet 1:00 PM Shotgun Start 6:00 PM Cocktails Hors D’oeuvres Putting Contest 6:30 PM Buffet Dinner Skill Awards Give-a-ways Silent Auction In our 12 th year and close to $550K raised, we wanted to take a step back and remind everyone why we do this in honor of Richie and the Nelson Family. Camden Martinez’s mother, Diana, describes him as a typical little boy. However, his life has been anything but typical. Camden was born with gastroschisis, a serious intestinal birth defect. Born at just 34 weeks gestation, he spent the first month of his life recovering in the NICU at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), while his mother stayed at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. Less than a year later—one week after Camden’s first birthday—doctors found a tumor in his stomach. He was sent back to CHOP where he was diagnosed with high-risk, stage four neuroblastoma. Over the last year, little Camden has endured five rounds of chemotherapy, twenty-three rounds of radiation, and two bone marrow transplants. His family has spent over 85 nights at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and often utilize the Ronald McDonald Family Room at CHOP to regroup. 12 YEARS !
