Last week, our Kindergarten students celebrated the first 100 days of their schooling by inviting families to visit their classrooms and share morning tea. It was a lovely morning and I thank our Kindergarten teachers for providing this opportunity. Next week we have ‘An Evening with ACOS’ performing arts rehearsals and performances. As the Evening with ACOS occurs during Education Week, our school will celebrate Education Week in Week 4, by inviting families into classrooms to participate in STEM activities. NAIDOC Week also occurred during the school holidays. Ben Venue will celebrate NAIDOC in Week 6 (26-30 August). Student Achievements Congratulations to Brodie Meredith, Kairi Takayama and Hugo Fittler who were competitors at the State Cross Country last Friday. Within their groups, Brodie placed 50 th , Kairi 46 th and Hugo 28 th in the State. These are fantastic achievements. Last week, Jeanie Inglis delivered a catch-up prepared and an impromptu speech for the Premier’s Public Speaking Competition. In spite of the added pressure of delivering her speeches to both a live audience and adjudicators watching via video conference, Jeanie won. Jeanie will now join Skye Vaughan in the next round later during this term. Good luck to our students competing in the Regional Athletics this Friday, as well as our soccer and touch football teams. School Development Day Last week, Ben Venue teachers met for our School Development Day. We reviewed progress in relation to our School Plan, discussed opportunities to continue to enhance the support our school provides in student wellbeing, and worked to develop units of learning for the new Science and Technology syllabus. Year teams also began work to further improve the design of our semesterly student reports. Last year, we made changes in response to parent/carer feedback, making reports easier to read and interpret in History and Geography, Science, PDHPE and Creative Arts. This year, we continue this process by improving reporting in Mathematics. An Evening with ACOS Next week, the Ben Venue Orchestra, Marimba Group, Senior Choir and Dance Group will rehearse and perform as part of the Evening with ACOS. The flyer for this event is attached to page 2 of this newsletter. Notes were sent home with performers last week and more information regarding performance times will be provided as soon as we have the running schedule. If your child is performing, please do not go to Madgwick Hall to collect them after the evening performance. Students will be brought to the grassed area above the ‘Stro’ cafe to assemble under the school banner, from where they can be collected. This is to ensure student safety and avoid congestion in the walkways outside Madgwick Hall.
